Louis Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 Correct. A pound of feathers actually weighs more than a pound of gold because they are weighed by two very different systems of weight. Feathers are weighed by the AVOIRDUPOIS unit and gold (as well as other precious metals and gems) is weighed by the TROY unit. A troy pound is 5760 grains (about 373.24 g), while an avoirdupois pound is 7000 grains (about 453.59 g). So, the correct answer is that a pound of feathers weighs more that a pound of gold by a margin of 80.35 g or 1,240 grains. Quote
Bill Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Its on an occasion like this where if you dropped exactly the same weight from a great height, theoreticly both should hit the floor together, but the gold would hit the floor first, due to the wind resistence of the feathers. Quote
