After reading all the shite rooney has been coming out with latley, i started thinking about other player that have left under dodgey cercumstances.

I remember when Speed left there was a romour that he had to sign a confidentiality clause before he could go to not talk about what was going on at Everton. Does anyone know/remember what actualy happened & why he left?

Random question i know, but u gotta ask.

I'v heard 2 storys.

No. 1 (I tend to believe this one)

Everton play Derby County in the league and the team is preparing as usual, Speed is the captain & Kendall is the manager. Ref comes to the dressing room to get the team sheet from Kendall and he's nowhere to be found so Speed goes to find his manager. He searches around and finally comes accross Kendall & Jim Smith in a room drinking whisky and giggling like school girls. Given Kendalls history & drinking habbits that was the straw that broke the camels (Speed) back.

No. 2 (Similar lines but a hint of BS)

The squad is training and working hard when captain Speed requires a drink so he jogs over to the touchline, picks up a lucozade sports bottle and squirts it in his mouth and all over his face only to find out its whisky. Kednalls dependance is too much for Speed and he demands out on the spot.

Basically he had had enough of one of Evertons true legends letting down the club he loved by being constantly pissed and highly dependant on alcohol. Speed wanted to spill the beans to the fans & the media but out of his love for the club signed Evertons gagging agreement and accepted he would never be forgiven by the Goodison faithful.

Having said all that the atmosphere when he returned for his first game was electric and one of the best that season and he did leave the club "he loved" in serious shit when he left!

Ooooooh Gary, Gary,

Gary, Gary, Gary, Gary shithouse Speed B)

This is from a bulshit artical from the barcoses about why we hate speed so much.

You may recall that the deal that brought him to Tyneside was somewhat protracted, with miserable Kenny making an initial bid of £5m in late January 1998 - the week before Everton were due to play at West Ham. Upon receipt of the bid from Newcastle, Blues boss Howard Kendall informed Speed of the bid, but confirmed it was insufficient. He also told the player that he thought Newcastle would come back with an improved sum, which would be accepted by the Goodison board.

Confirmed, we sold speed early in 1998 and Kendall left Jun or July 1998, see new thread

Some rumour the time Allegedly suggested Howard never made it home from Training or had arrived in the wee hours etc.

Speed, the evr green Pro apparently found Howard not once but twice near Unconsious from drunkuness slumped in his car in car park, handled it once but not the second time.

As club captain it is said he was obliged to raise the issue & had difficulties working with Kendall any further in a professional capacity..

However, he was sold & the truth signed in confidentiality contracts etc.

The issue then was attempted to be Swept under the arl carpet.

Who knows eh?

Umm who to believe...nasty storys about our greatest ever manager or a fucker who moved for cash..

Kendall was no saint but i'd sooner not tarnish him with the old drinking too much storys tbh, after all he was the only manger of recent times to bring sucess to our club.

Speed fucked off at the first time of trouble. and in my book that makes him a twat
