  1. Think part of the reason we all love him at the moment is his guts and character....so Everton! To be roundly disliked and written off, yet still believe in himself enough to grab his chance when finally played in his actual position, it's inspiring. Easy to forget how much everyone on here slagged him off, not the most techinically gifted but a clever footballer who works his nuts off and puts his chances away.

First name on the team sheet at the moment!

  2. In all fairness I don't think Distin did too much wrong, wasn't brilliant but was having to play next to Jags who had his worst game I have seen in an Everton shirt. Think Stones is a better partner for Distin than Jags but really can't see Martinez, the type of manager he is dropping Jags. Would be too much like blaming him for the six let in and Martinez for me is all about building Morale and team spirit.

  3. Jags could have gifted them four by himself tonight, awful on the first and twice virtually put them clean through himself. Surely should be dropped, but can't see it! Still not even forgiven him for last week and that pathetic header effort before Giroud's goal! Both Giroud and Costa have had him in their pocket last two weeks. Both centre backs have made mistakes from the start of the season and if that's their form I'd give Stones a go, he is also liable for the odd changer due to his age but he also gives us other extra dimensions on the ball......we've been that bad I'd consider Alcaraz too!

  4. In all fairness to Lukaku I think it is far harder to play that solitary frontman role in the formation we play. Lots of hard graft, kicks, double marking and little glory..... Although he hasn't been great! Think both Naismith and Eto have an easier job playing further back picking the ball up facing goal rather than with their back too it.

Still very impressed with both of them but Eto looked like a bit of class, great movement and vision he has, a touch of world class at times. He's an undoubted goal scorer but after today's performance I got an insight into what a clever player he is with regard to movement vision and ability to play others in. Will be a real game changer for us and able to play several positions across the front line.

The bitterness has almost faded from tonight's result and I'm starting to see the positives. Not many teams anywhere that will dominate 62 percent of the ball against Chelsea. A few things go different and we could have easily won, the most worrying thing is how many times we conceded straight after scoring, happened preseason too!

Not the greatest start to the season but with Eto, Lukaku, Kone ( who I still think will surprise a few people) and Naismith we have goals, variety and enough to scare any team. Most overrated player in the premiership Jags, poor defending all night plus a couple of individual howlers, if Martinez is truly a great manager he will make a brave move and drop him for Stones! Can't see it though, captain and all that..... Just have this worry at the back of my mind that our defensive performances last year were residual Moyes, a defensive master and now we are seeing Wigan esq defending. All the more worrying when you take the preseason into account too!

Still I'll take it over Moyes, boring football, all intent on blunting the opponents. Went two nil down tonight and always felt we could get back into it! Martinez brings glamour, good football, always an unpredictable match day. Two points after three games, gutted, but torn as there have also been so many positives! Think we could be a cup team this year, breaking a twenty year drought.......Eto with the winner, last and most important feather in a feather filled cap!

  5. Look at them votes.... Naismith 34 votes clear, rewind one year and he was booed, slated, hated and underrated (me included). How fickle are us fans, all credit to the lad a meteoric rise, maybe not the most gifted but a great finisher, good movement and the best attitude in our team. A potential Goodison hero? We all love an underdog but there is nothing better than someone who battles through the abuse, keeps his head up and proves us all wrong.

Can't be easy to be written off, played out of position ( classic moyes) and to maintain belief in yourself! Think I'm getting a man crush

Lol. Anyway no surprises where my vote went.......yep Coleman, awesome all night and desperately unlucky for the own goal!!

  6. Matt pretty sure that is a stoned faced smiley.... but love the sentiment. Total statement today was watching a evertontv archive earlier today. ...straqualisie and drenthe playing...moyes and uninspiring football.Things are changing fellow blues, more excited than anytime I can remember. The school of science is back youth and exciting prospects through the middle of the team, exciting manager, exciting football....exciting times!! Been on a impromptu lukaku celebration night, gonna pay for it in the morning!! Well worth it though a great time to be a blue.....COYB

  7. Watched Barkley yesterday for the reserves and he was dire!! Looked like he couldn't be arsed to be honest. Think if he was good enough to start at the beginning of the season then he should be good enough to come on as sub since, even if Moyes is sparing him. There have been a fair few games this year when we have totally lacked any flair and he could have been used as an impact sub.

Actually think Moyes was scared by the amount of attention he was getting saw him sold by the end of the season and used the first excuse to pull him out of the limelight.

  8. Were being crippled by high wages and debt repayments on loans!! By selling Arteta, i bet for a touch more than ten mil and removing his and Yaks roughly 5.5 mil a year wages will clear a vast amount of debt.

We've got a surplus of midfielders [central] and desperately need wingers [one of which we got for nothing] Honestly believe Arteta has done squat for the last couple of years other than hit three kicks straight into walls, be injured and pass sideways. Can we really justify paying 3.9 million a year for that? The future of Everton is far more important than Arteta, and selling a player who will be decreasing in value because of his age is sensible buisness. The fact is he also wanted to go so no point keeping.

Not sure i agree with all the doom and gloom! Certainly not declaring both signings as rubbish either. Fact is were skint and we need to act frugally in the market. Still think we have plenty of good players and will do alright this season. COYB

  9. For me no great loss, good buisness really as we got him for squat!! Not a bad player if played as one of two upfront, but as all who have watched Moyes and Everton will know there aint a bloody chance of that happening!!! So may as well take the cash, which talksport reckon is 4-4.5 milion.
