  1. You guys need to realise that the prices you are thinking of very realistic three years ago. Now every team has increased their turnover by 30-50 million from TV alone and most teams will make a profit for the current season.

So you can look at whatever players but if you think you will buy a good PL player from another PL team with no baggage or contract running out for under 10 million, you need to realign your valuations.

  2. Big boy. Do I see similarities between Lennon and Pienaar - yes because they both work hard for the team when we don't have the ball. Do I see similarities between Mirallas and Lennon - no. Therefore my whole point is.... Out wide I see Lennon as Pienaars replacement and not Mirallas.

So you are happy with replacing the defensive qualities and that's it? Do you think that's what we have mostly lacked from Pienaar's contribution this season? His defensive workrate?

  3. Oh boy. So McCarthy is also similar to Pienaar since he, too, is a hard worker off the ball? And if you want a winger, how about Kevin Kilbane?

Pienaar doesn't run past players and isn't particularly quick. But his close control and short passing, especially one-twos, are good. He's more like a playmaker while Lennon is a winger. There's very little in common. We lack a Pienaar type and Lennon is not that.

  4. vs ManC: started

    vs Liverpool (cup): started

    vs Spurs: started

    vs QPR: started

vs ManU: not in the squad

    vs Swansea: started

    vs Sunderland: started

    vs WBA (cup): started

    vs WBA: started

That's up til beginning of March. He was injured against Swansea and therefore missed the ManU game. Otherwise he started every game so how doesn't he have a regular place? The only game he wasn't a starter under Sherwood except for that ManU game was Sherwood's first game in charge.

  5. I'm the same I don't dislike the lad as a player but I'm not sure why he's apparently drumming up so much interest from clubs such as Chelsea United Spurs etc nine goals in thirty odd games albeit for a shite side wouldn't fill me with confidence buying the lad

I'd rather take a much cheaper punt on the lad from Wolves who seems to have more about his game

Do you mean Afobe? He joined them in January from Arsenal.

  6.

One man's opinion though, however "expert" he may be portrayed as; sure the board could bring in another with a totally different viewpoint.

His background working for breweries is impressive though.

Well, what would the club's financial plan be then? "Let's hope the TV deal keeps getting better" or "Let's hope someone gives us loads of money, no strings attached"?

  7. Mark - it's not just creativity. Its players of the 'next' technical level. Players who aren't just average but game changers. Like if Mirallas, Barkley had consistency, if Barry had pace, if McCarthy had goalscoring credentials, Lukaku had a decent 'touch'. We need more than Cleverley, we need players like Dybala, Firmino, Meyer...pricey but worthy next level players.

You can stop fantasizing about those players. They will not become Everton players unless we qualify for CL and even then we probably couldn't afford them.

Many grammar mistakes have been made by yourself on this page.

Maybe it is you who should not be so lazy and make an effort when making your posts, especially when it is only you who feels that there are no excuses for it.

I have no problem with how people post (grammar or abbreviations), but do have a problem with people who believe they are better than everyone else, and people who do not notice their own mistakes, but like to point out others.

Jesus. I was hoping people would listen to MikeO but one more time: of course people make errors. For me English is the third language I have learned so it's not even close to being my native tongue. I have nowhere said people shouldn't make mistakes. I know I do. But I do oppose to doing it on purpose because that's just rude to others. It's a bit like not greeting your neighbour in the morning, jumping the line or not holding the door for the lady behind you but instead slamming it shut in front of her. Things that are not done by accident. Not starting sentences with a capital letter regularly can't be an accident, neither can lacking periods at the end of them. English is a complex language so missing a comma here or there or making a typo happens to almost everyone.

This is the last post from me on this thread about this subject.

  9. Back on topic. I think this summer is going to tell us a lot about Martinez. He came here and said he has a long-term plan, that he wants to build something. If he doesn't bring in a few long-term players (supplemented by one or two experienced heads), and start phasing out the ageing players like Osman and Pienaar, then I'm going to start doubting him.

Been thinking the same. He's now had almost two years so whatever plan he has must start to play out. No-one gets more than three years to implement their style.
