No proper training camp, a team with no sense of purpose or identity, persistent refusal to adopt effective tactics, over reliance on players incapable of reproducing former glories, trying to reformulate half the team to play in new positions. It just doesn't make sense and makes me think last season was more about the surprise factor and that he really doesn't have the ability to adapt the squad to changing conditions. Will Bill, no.

This is going to be a dire 90 minutes of football. Should be Kone starting, no reason for Lukaku to be run to the ground yet again and no need to risk McCarthy. Give him 30 at the end if we're still bringing him up to speed.

Thought Barkley was utterly anonymous until Besic came off. When Barkley sat deeper he did much better with the ball, but it's so painfully obvious that he's lost all his confidence right now. Don't know why and glad I'm not charged with sorting it out, but it's desperate. Naismith can't be the one trying to thread the through ball, he needs to be the one getting on the end of it. Oviedo looked decent and covered back very well, but he doesn't really link up with Baines effectively. Impossible to really judge the defense, they sorted out a few sketchy moments, but were never put under any real pressure. Lukaku did what he could and looked more up for it than most. Besic is class, but we really didn't need to holding players today. We should have known from the first whistle what they would try to do and we should have changed our approach. Will be interesting to hear what the club and Mirallas have to say in the next couple days, it's a potential self destruct moment.

Listening to the first half on the official site and then try to catch the second half over lunch at a pub. Need a boost after a vicious weekend of planes, booze and no sleep. COYB!

He was undoubtedly better yesterday, but for a winger I really feel he lacks the main skills, picking the final ball and hitting a cross. Everything he crosses is a sand wedge chipped into the waiting arms of the keeper and he never seems to be on the same page as the player he's passing to. Not sure either of those will improve with a run in the team or with fitness, but I'll hold out hope until we flog him off or he turns good.

No hope about it, the corner's been turned. Sure, or we could do something about the number of corners we concede. I haven't looked at the stats, but it has to be close to 20 over the two matches against WH, give any team that many opportunities and you'll pay.
