  1. I think if Martinez thought he was ready now he wouldn't need to send him on loan for a season but I agree he needs more than reserve football. It seems that Stones has also jumped ahead of him in the pecking order but with Heitinga likely to go and Distin's age, there could be opportunities for him on the future if he goes on loan, gets plenty of game time and shows the necessary improvement.
  2. Maybe others on here have but I haven't seen Shane at work every day for the past few years. However, Moyes, Round and the rest of the coaching staff did and they didn't think he was ready. Now Martinez, Jones and coaching team have come in and it seems they don't think he's ready yet either. Maybe a season at a good standard in the Championship will get the best out of him but I think its reasonable to assume that there are a number of people better qualified than us to make an assessment on whether he can improve our team.
  3. I thought Anzhi were in the process of cutting their wage bill? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23603167
  4. What I read is that you can't compare De Rossi with Bradley because they play different roles in the team. So the only real conclusion he came to is that Bradley offers significantly better value because he costs a lot less.

    Valencia

This is true, however there are some fans who have organsied their travel around the 3/4 play off game and this is on a different day.
  7. This quote from Moyes today made me smile - sounds familiar........... "I am quite confident we will add to the squad. But what we have here is a really good squad of players already. You mustn't forget about the quality that is already here at Manchester United."
  8. I think that someone will meet the buy-out clause for Felli, there'll be a bit of an auction and he'll go for around 25 mill. That will leave a couple of weeks for us to get a couple of really decent signings in before deadline day (striker and midfield replacement) and I expect most Evertonians will be happy with that. I believe Bainesy will stay.
  9. Chelsea paid 20m for Bosingwa when he was 26. Anyone think he's a better player than Bainesy?
  10. Have to say it isn't getting me terribly excited, I was hoping for better. That said, I'm not complaining because of his age and potential sell-on value. Spurs have offered 17m for Soldado and he's 28 so its not like people aren't paying good money for people of that age. As has already been said, I think he's better than Vic but still think we'll need to try and get another main line striker in if we sell Felli or Baines (or Jela).
  11. I believe our chief scout is going with Moyes - Robbie Cooke (can't say I'd heard of him. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/10089727/Manchester-United-manager-offer-contract-to-Steve-Round-David-Moyes-former-assistant-at-Everton.html
  12. I may be dreaming but I'm expecting that we'll have somewhere like 10-15m to spend even without selling. Big jump in the TV revenues from this season, higher than anticipated league position (at £1m per place), more live TV monies than projected from last season plus we didn't spend the Fer money in January. Then he might get to spend more if he generates some from the current playing staff. Here's hoping...........
  13. Martinez says the transfer market is 'global'. He strikes me as the kind of person who'll have in depth knowledge of lots of players strengths and weaknesses and not just those that were within Wigan's buying power. I reckon that he'll have a good list of targets that will improve the squad - then its down to Bill and Elstone to back up Bill's words. I wouldn't mind betting that Elstone nearly choked when Bill came out with that - stick a microphone in front of him and he can't help himself!
  14. I think the point is that we'll likely go to a back 3 so we'll need additional cover to be able to accommodate that formation, plus this guy already is already well versed in Martinez's tactical formations. For free, seems like a no-brainer (esp if Heits goes for a decent fee).
  15. I think you mean 'your behalf' and 'loose women' should be capitalised :Grammar Police:
  16. I think he will have expected to be a sure thing for the Everton job and now he's having to work for it - which is no bad thing for the club. It shows our credentials as a big step up from Wigan. No doubt he'll be disappointed if he doesn't get it but there'll be plenty of offers for him. Something like 75% of PL managers moved in the past year! And if he doesn't get it, more power to Everton who have identified a better candidate.
  17. Sorry, I knew I'd spelt it wrong (cut & paste from bbc) but couldn't work out how to edit the title :dont know:
  18. Or how unrealistic/generous Anichebe's contract is? For all the people commenting on how Everton have overachieved in recent years, that is only over achievement in terms of the transfer market spend. Everton's players are well paid. Remember Arteta took 10k/week drop when he joined Arsenal. Our annual spend on player salaries is about 10th in the league but we have a small squad compared to most, so per player the wage structure is pretty competitive.
  19. Wigan made 7m more than us - 5m profit versus 2m spend
  20. I can't do your maths. Even 50k euros/week only adds up to 2.2m pounds/year?
  21. Have to say, Martinez wasn't my first choice (Pereira) but we have to hope that he is appointed now. He won't be short of offers to take over at other clubs, Malaga being another linked. If he holds talks with us and doesn't take the post then that will raise concerns and rumour about what we've had to tell him about potential transfer targets, players out, the immediate club future etc. So lets hope we have productive talks over the next couple of days, get him in well before the start of pre-season and give him some time to get settled at the club.
  22. AC Milan are also competing in the Audi Cup in Munich July 31-1st August, so must be splitting their squad? http://www.audi.com/com/brand/en/experience/sponsoring/sportsponsoring/audi_cup.html
