  1. Benitez gone to Napoli http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/8733080/Rafa-Benitez-agrees-two-year-contract-to-become-Napoli-coach not very near the Wirral is it?
  2. Solskjaer odds have also shortened sharply today - its said he's done well at Molde but how competitive is that league?
  3. Who's got the skinny on ol' bag face Harry then? He's currently favourite with Corals?
  4. Martinez odds on with William Hill and Paddy Power http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/everton/next-permanent-manager
  5. Because its a bookmaker who reported the news, so you go onto their website and lay a bet on somebody who actually isn't just about to be confirmed as the new manager!
  6. http://www.marca.com/2013/05/22/en/football/spanish_football/1369252687.html Yes please, watched him a couple of times for Espanyol this season and he looks top drawer. Left side attacking midfield.
  7. The ideal scenario - guess it depends who else he'll bring with him or Moyes takes.
  8. Don't just concentrate on players who have 'made it' but look at players who have also gone on to play at other clubs - that is also a measure of success for the academy (not necessarily Moyes). Current 1st team squad : Anichebe, Osman, Hibbert, Barkley, Duffy Current academy grads who have made the 1st team squad : McAleny, Garbutt, Bidwell, Taudul (pre-season), Stones, Kennedy, Springthorpe Expect to feature : Lundstram, Hamar, Green Players who have come thru the academy and moved elsewhere : Rooney, Rodwell, Ruddy, Vaughan, Wallace, Forshaw, Baxter All of these players will make a living from playing football and that is also a measure of success for our youth development. If you can bring through 1 player per season it will probably pay for the entire academy and the lease on Finch farm - we're already well ahead just on Rooney and Rodwell.
  9. Soz guys, didn't spot that. I've been to baseball in the US and enjoyed the experience much like I enjoy the experience at other sports - cricket, golf, ice hockey etc. But nothing compares to football for sheer tribalism and excitement.
  10. Spurs matchday revenues are only 10m more than Everton so it doesn't account for the other 50m? You're either an avid trainspotter or troll - declare yourself!!
  11. Quick question........... Spurs turnover is 144m compared to Everton's at 81m. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/apr/18/premier-league-finances-club-by-club However, Spurs attendances are on average slightly less that Everton's http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-22541130 So where does that leave your argument about needing a new stadium (and the cost of financing such a project) in order to increase revenues and on-field competitiveness?
  12. There were rumours over the weekend that Rafa was going to Stoke - its local to him and they are looking to consolidate in the mid-tier in the PL and improve their playing style. Seems unlikely but Peter Coates is worth an estimated £750 million, so could provide funds. Pulis defo won't be coming to EFC - we can relax about that
  13. Whisper it Dunc, there'll be some on here who want to believe Everton don't have a successful youth policy!!
  14. I'm fed up with this nonsense that kids don't get a chance at Everton. Its bollocks. Our U21's and academy is full of players who chose Everton because we're renowned for developing good young players. Even if ultimately they don't make it into the 1st team they have a better than average chance of going on to have decent career at another club in the lower leagues. Some people should accept that just because they're told Barkley is a world beater that doesn't mean they know better than people who watch the players in training every day. Same for Duffy, Vellios, Junior etc. Maybe somebody who knows more about footy than you doesn't think these players are ready?!? Look at how well Villa have done with a young team - no thanks! The only upside to Moyes leaving is it's a great opportunity for a new manager to make the most of the players at the club, bring in a couple of quality players, fresh ideas and fresh impetus. Here's hoping.
  15. David Gill has said that the next MUFC manager needs domestic and European experience and that it is a 'small pool' of candidates. If Moyes doesn't get the job what it will emphasise to him is that he needs European experience on his CV to get the really top jobs, so likely to look for a move anyway given we haven't qualified for next season.
  16. I got the impression when he appeared on Monday Night footy that he was touting himself for his next job. With his contract out of date, the timing seemed a bit crass - presumably his agent booked him that gig?
  17. Not many agreed with my assessment post transfer window but unfortunately it seems Moyes does. Maybe he's equally as disappointed as I was on Friday morning. Hopefully we'll continue to get some good results and the negativity will turn into optimism. "Asked whether the lack of big-name arrivals to boost Everton’s Champions League credentials would effect his decision to sign a new contract, the Scot said: “I wouldn’t discuss it, we’re only a day over it, but we’re concerned we didn’t add to what we got because I wanted to give the players something extra. We are disappointed obviously, Fer is a top player and it’s a shame it turned out like that, but we are still one of the contenders to be in the top half and in and around the top four."
  18. My worry now is that the board have confirmed Moyes' worst fears as to their ambition. Them being able to get in the players he'd identified is surely some of the criteria he's weighing up when he's considering our contract offer. He's said all this window - and a number of the players have echoed it - that we need fresh faces in the match day squad. If we start to struggle it will be because the players aren't fresh, uncertainty over the managers position etc. I really hope not but I'm feeling underwhelmed after this window.
  19. Looks like we didn't have to worry where the money was coming from after all
  20. I think the point is, and I like Seamus, that it would be naive to think that there aren't better full backs out there and its the managers job to strengthen where he can.
  21. Bainsey didn't get a regular game for us for more than a season if memory serves, and we paid 6m for him. Seamus isn't old but he's 6 years older than this lad.
  22. Yeah, it would have to be a perm deal for it to make sense for Twente. They have a couple of players lined up that they want to bring in but need money thru the door first
  23. At the moment we only have Nev fit for RB and Jags filling in, so there's chance he'll get a sniff on the bench. I'm assuming he's cup tied?
  24. Check out Negredo's wiki page already ha ha ha
