  1. FFS, how desperate are we to get just 4.5m for Yak and Becks. I can understand taking 10mill for Arteta (altho not at 11pm) but we turned down 4.5m for Yakubu last season
  2. Much as I love Mikel, and I do, I don;'t think we can afford to turn down 10mill, given his age, recent performances and injury record. I would like to see us bring in a creative midfielder - no idea who tho for the money we have??!!
  3. Please don't let him be another VDM. He's not well known for discipline!! Hopefully Johnny will help him settle in.
  4. Fourth Official tweets that its a done deal!!!
  5. So all we need now is for Beckford to go and us not get a work permit for Denis. Anyone know if he has an EU passport? At least we'll have Yak and Vic to go with for the rest of the season!! Sorry about the pessimism but hard to be optimistic about some of this!!
  6. Nobody's seen Riquelme or Moutinho in a taxi or at an airport then?
  7. Not sure I can agree that we are in worse financial state now as we were 10 years ago. We aren't likely to get relegated with the team we have now although if we did we would have plenty of saleable assets to stave off administration and still have a crack at getting promoted. 10 years ago not only were we likely to be relegated, we didn't have the saleable assets to save us from administration.
  8. If we sign Barton on a free, who will go out of Arteta, Rodwell, Heitinga or Fellaini - or maybe 2? It's obvious we need to fund a move for a striker.
  9. Most chairmen don't put their own money in to bankroll huge transfers (Chelsea and Man City aside). The Glazers haven't spent any of their own cash and you can bet that all the money being spent across the park is not coming out of personal investments (and they'll be expecting a return, look at their baseball investment). Look at Coates at Stoke. His business empire must be worth miles more than Bill but they've been very conservative in their approach to transfers, getting slightly less cautious each year as their premiership status nears the safety of mid-table. My personal opinion is that it is unrealistic to expect/demand people to spend their own money. I do think though that the club could operate as a business much better than it does.
  10. So what you're saying is, it's a disgrace that Kenwright and other members of the board aren't spending their own money on buying players. I can agree that it's a disgrace that Everton as a club and a business can't develop more revenue and a better business model that would fund a transfer kitty. Have you thought about remortgaging your house and giving it (not investing it but giving it) to Everton towards their transfer budget??
  11. http://www.premierleague.com/staticFiles/14/79/0,,12306~162068,00.pdf Quite a few interesting names on here. Not sure how many I'd like to see at Everton but you could still make a pretty good team out of them.
  12. Scum like Barton, whether they be players or supporters, are not welcome at our club
  13. I was told last night by somebody in the fire service who was at the scene. Apparently its a left hand drive car and the passenger side of the car was a mess. If it'd been right hand drive then.......... Anyway, he'll probably injure himself posting the insurance claim.
  14. Trouble is that, according to half the recent threads, Coyle is already at a bigger club than Everton (we don't really believe that do we?). Give our current financial predicament, if we can't manage to afford a loan player we'll be unlikely to pay significant compo for a manager who's already established in the PL. So, managers who are out of work or hungry managers from the lower leagues (and whether I'd be interested, like it's down to me!!!) :- Sam Allardyce - no thanks Steve MacLaren - no thanks Chris Hughton - no thanks Roberto di Matteo - probably Martin Jol - probably Billy Davies - possibly, bit similar to Moyes? Slaven Bilic - probably Ian Holloway - it would be fun tho, wouldn't it Paul Lambert - remarkable turnaround at Norwich Gus Poyet - maybe needs a year in the Championship first? Have to admit, I don't follow the managerial career's of the up and coming continental coaches, although De Boer seems to be doing a good job at Ajax and he's got Bergkamp on the coaching staff.
  15. LOL - personally, I wouldn't be relying on him to back up any of my arguments
  16. 1. "When the fiasco unraveled the club said that the new ground development with Tesco would not be affected by the decision on the training ground sale, although “it would probably cost the council money as they would have to put up more to pay for the new ground." - Wrong. The training ground planning was LCC and the new ground was Knowsley. 2. "Undoubtedly there will be members of Everton who will again blame a tiny group of busybodies for turning down the application for the new ground. But the fact is that Liverpool Council never wanted Everton to move to Kirkby, and the way Everton spoke about the council after the training ground rejection just hardened attitudes" - Same as #1 above 3. "Unfortunately Everton had already moved to their new Finch Farm training complex in Halewood last year, and so the site is useless, and a part of the Everton debt is due to the fiasco. So, no new training ground, and today no new stadium". - Wrong. We had our new training ground well before this article was written. The accrual of debt was not related to the non-sale of Bellefield. The Bellefield money was earmarked for the new stadium. 4. " In 2008 they tried to buy themselves out of debt by borrowings to “invest in the playing squad". - Did we? We bought Felli on the drip and Saha but can't recall any others? 5. "But contrast for a moment the way in which Arsenal got the Ems built. On time, on budget, the only thing that went wrong was that the recession came along and cut some of the budget from the redevelopment of Highbury and of the industrial units nearby. Such organisation and planning seems utterly beyond the abilities of Everton." - Seemingly redeveloping in Walton is much the same as North Islington 6. "In effect, Liverpool and Everton are loss making enterprises with no way of doing anything other than making more losses. As such they are not viable businesses, and are on the road to terminal decline" - Looks like all clubs other than Arsenal may as well pack up and go home. There's more but Ive got bored with it. Just my opinion of course, I accept that the southern, condescending nonce may know better than me
  17. You talking about the link you posted or Hafnia? Cos I'm talking about Hafnia's...
  18. Except some of the points are total nonsense and it's been written by somebody who didn't do any homework on the political landscape (Liverpool City Council v Knowsley) of our proposed ground move and seems to live in some typical southern microcosm that thinks its reasonable to compare the London property market with that of Walton. The twat! Other than that, a really well written, factual and absorbing read - not.
  19. And Lars Jacobsen is ahead of him in the pecking order for Denmark
  20. Got to say, despite the gloss that Elstone and Kenwright put on it, these are pretty concerning. If we have one-off sale of Bellefield at £8m to clear down some of the debt but it still increases by £7m that means that we have net £15m increase in debt and no possibility of further investment in the squad without player sales, irrespective of what Elstone claims! Or maybe I just can't do basic sums??
  21. The cynic in me thinks that with the financial results just published, BK will be looking to avoid some angry shareholders at the next AGM, hence the timing of any such leaks to the press. If we paid off the debts that would free up £10m per year for Moyes straight away that isn't spent servicing the interest. Plus I think the reasons given around lack of investment because we don't have a new stadium is a bit misleading. Destination Kirkby would only have brought in an additional £5m/year in revenues and matchday ticket revenues account for probably less than a third of our total revenue.
  22. Even if we're not getting anyone, you've got to have a laugh at the other lot. Let Torres go and then spend 35m on Andy Carroll. Mike Ashley must be pissing his sides!!
  23. And Sunderland are 6th and 7 points clear of 7th. That was us a couple of seasons ago. Do you think that Sunderland are a better club & team than Everton? Only a small handful of teams have actually won anything over the past 10 years but success for the rest of us (sadly) can be measured by top 6 in the PL, European footy and a few good cup runs.
  24. We could do what Spurs have done and push Bainesy forward onto left wing. He's our best wide midfield player at the moment even playing as a LB. And at home we could consider playing Arteta wide right, altho the way they're both playing at the moment I'm not sure that would be fair on Seamus.
  25. The phrase 'total bollocks' springs to mind
