I think you have to remember Martinez has had time with Kone at Wigan; he knows what he can do. Same goes for the other players who may have been omitted from the starting team, Martinez may have felt he's had enough time with them to see what they can do, what role they're going to play in his team.

I'm not sure if I'll be jumping on the 'pick faults with our defence' bandwagon. It's a new system and it's going to take a while for the defence to get it; That's what the preseason is for, trying out new formations, tactics, ideas especially as the team is new to the manager and vice-versa! Preseason is also, obviously, about fitness - players should really be peaking now and if they're not I'd be concerned. Before we went to America noone could praise Gibson enough! Bit harsh after Juve played him out the game, and he had 10mins against Real, he's been demoted to looking below full power!

Strange way for a tournament to operate. Not overly bothered. Although, I would have loved to have won just for the fact Martinez would have won more than Moyes! Whoever we play they will be a good, strong opposition. Out of curiosity, how were the teams chosen for the tournament?
