Peter Odemwingie

I'm pretty sure he played during the African Cup of Nations this year. About 90% positive

EDIT:- Just looked up, he was in ACN, he was also selected as one of the over age limit players at the Olympics this year. he has also played in Nigeria's last two friendlies. I can't see a work permit being an issue.

Caps shouldn't be an issue. He frequents their starting XI.

He's more of a forward/winger than a striker, so I'm not positive how he'd fit into the 451. I think he'd be a fish out of water if we left him up top alone, but if he played off of Saha I think it'd be a steal.

Not sure if we will be able to get him in the end, while he's not "class" he has the talent to easily be ahead of Ossie in the lineup.

he started out in belgian league.. watched him play for a season, he's the reason an inferior team won the cup in belgium the year he played there.

he's an excellent player, very fast, very dangerous in front of the goal.. can play multiple positions (striker, winger either side).

imo a better player than Saha.

would be great for everton if they got him.

Some information from Wikipedia that might be worth reading. :)

Club

Peter Odemwingie was born in Tashkent in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. Odemwingie chose to pledge his allegiances to the national football team of Nigeria, although he was also eligible for Russia. Odemwingie first plied his trade with CSKA Moscow as a youngster. He soon moved on to the Belgian club La Louviere and made his mark by helping the club to win the Belgian Cup his first year playing. Scoring 9 goals in 44 appearances got the attention of the Lille managing team and before long he was starting on the squad in the French Ligue 1. Famous for his technique and pace, the Nigerian player is being watched by some of the prestigious European clubs . He had indicated he wanted to stay at Lille and help them fight for the league the next season. Odemwingie had already scored 5 goals for them in the 2006-07 season(citation needed)and two against AC Milan at the San Siro to take Lille to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, but the club couldn't resist a €17 million offer from Lokomotiv.

National team

Odemwingie has 20 caps and 5 goals to his name for Nigeria. His first appearance was in the 2004 African Cup of Nations in which he scored his first and second goal in the 80th and 82nd minute against South Africa. He also played in the 2006 African Cup of Nations were he played in the semi-final losing to Ivory Coast 1-0. He was included to play for Nigeria in the 2008 African Cup of Nations and has also played in recent friendlies versus Switzerland and Sudan, both games which Nigeria won.

Beijing Olympics

He was selected as the only over-aged player of the Nigerian football team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He scored a goal and assisted one in the entire tournament. Nigeria eventually lost the final to defending champions Argentina.
