MikeO
That would be up there with, "The batsman's Holding the bowler's Willey."
The Beard
Am I right in thinking that was actually used by a cricket commentator and not a possibile saying. From the late 70's I think.
MikeO
Am I right in thinking that was actually used by a cricket commentator and not a possibile saying. From the late 70's I think. Actually I got it the wrong way round, it was apprently Brian Johnston saying, "We welcome World Service listeners to the Oval, where the bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey." Dubious as to whether it was really said on air, there's no recording of it although apparently Henry Blofeld mentioned it in his autobiography. The Beard
I could imagine them waiting for years for the chance to say it and let Johnston utter that immortal line. I hope it's true he said it, wouldn't want my illusions shattered.
