what a strange story!

http://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/news/in...?article_id=177

Also chosen by the Globetrotters were 2009 College Slam Dunk Champion Tony Danridge of the University of New Mexico and Slam Dunk runner-up Charlie Coley, III of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; 2009 Patriot League Player of the Year Derrick Mercer of American University; and Tim Howard, a former high school basketball standout and current number one goalkeeper of both the U.S. World Cup soccer team and Everton FC of England’s Premier League.

• Tim Howard is the top goalkeeper of the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, as well as one of the best net-minders in the English Premier League, having led Everton FC to the 2009 FA Cup Final. He starred at North Brunswick High School, in his hometown of North Brunswick, N.J., in both soccer and basketball, where his scoring and leaping ability helped lead his school to the state finals his senior year. The 6-3 Howard is active in charitable efforts, as he is a past winner of the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award for his work with children with Tourette Syndrome – a condition which affects Howard personally – and is also involved in the organization Athletes in Action...........

........ players will be extended an invitation to fall training camp to vie for the honor of joining the Globetrotters for their 84th consecutive season of touring the world.

All very interesting but as much to do with sport as pro wrestling.

On September 12, 1995, they (The Globetrotters) lost 91–85 to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's All Star Team in Vienna, Austria ending an alleged run of 8,829 straight victories in going back to 1971. The 48-year-old Abdul-Jabbar scored 34 points. 8,829 games in twenty-four years would mean the Globetrotters were playing nearly 368 games per year, or more than one game a day some days, for twenty four years. This is due to the fact that multiple team line-ups tour as The Globetrotters to allow for a greater number of exhibitions. The Globetrotters won the other 10 games during that European tour.

They also immediately went on another winning streak of 1,270.

It's theatre, not sport....although very entertaining.
