Sure it wasn't as high as that. Rideout looks a steal at half a million in 1993 compared with todays prices, as with Graham Stuart and a few other early EPL signings. Claus Thomsen - £900,000 though, what the fuck was going on there ? All I remember him doing was playing about one season and scoring in a mersey derby game, and even that was in the wrong net. Beattie and Johnson from Southampton and Crystal Palace respectively, were good players at the time of purchase, but never made an impact at Goodison, it just never worked out for them, the £6 and £8 million we paid for them may have been justified at the time, but in retrospect, bit of a waste of damn money all said.
