John Mc
March 11 1970. Fifty years ago, brother Peter and I were at White Hart Lane to finally watch Everton play Spurs. The first time we went the game was postponed because of heavy snow. We went to the Imperial War Museum instead. The next time we went there was a power failure and the floodlights went out. The game ended in a 1-0 victory to the Toffees, thanks to a goal by Alan Whittle. That win took them to the top of the table, a position they were not to relinquish. Worthy champions, one of the best teams I ever saw. Attendance was 27,764. A few days later at Goodison Park, Spurs were beaten 3-2 in front of a crowd of 51,533. I wonder if anyone knows the date the fixture was supposed to be played, guessing around New Year. Also can anyone tell me if my memory is playing me false. Did the game get abandoned when the lights went out or did they fix them and Toffees went on to win 1-0?, Matt and Hafnia
MikeO
Stretching me there John I was only nine at the time; two or three older members may be able to help though. Loved Alan Whittle! Welcome to the site.
