  1. Just the team. My disdain for Landycakes has been published here before, but mostly it's that I'm a RBNY fan and I'm secretly jealous that your franchise isn't a trainwreck.
  2. RBNY's new Sporting Director said that he would prefer Henry and Cahill not go out on loan. Still doesn't end the possibility but this is looking even more unlikely now.
  3. I don't think this tells the whole story. I can't even count the number of shots he had that barely missed going in. Sure, you can say that for all strikers, but it was at the point where it was absurd. Also, his workrate created a number of goals for the team even if he didn't physically put the ball in the net himself. The general consensus among Red Bull fans is that, while we definitely would have liked to see some better production, he was a bit unlucky and it's unfair to judge the guy coming into MLS and a new continent midseason. My stance on a Cahill loan remains the same as it was; from a Red Bull New York perspective, I want him to go on loan because it would be good for him. From an Everton perspective, though, I'm not nearly as eager for it to happen. I do also believe, though, that nothing BAD could happen because he came here on loan. And he'd be a good presence in the locker room and a decent option for the bench for instances where we need a goal with 10 minutes or so remaining.
  4. No I understand that. I'm questioning the idea of keeping him until his contract ends, as opposed to selling him while they could still get a return.
  5. Oh, wow. Is Schalke really going to let him go for free?
  6. Even if he wanted to come here I doubt we could afford him without selling Fellaini or Baines. Am I wrong?
  7. He may have been ineffective for much of the game but it's what he did in that five minute span that counts. Giving it to Fellaini, though strong performances from Jags, Baines, and Howard.
  8. The idea of this team without Fellaini is scary. He's so integral. That being said, with some of the ridiculous transfer fees being thrown around it could give Moyes a lot of money to work with.
  9. Howard, Coleman, Baines, Heitinga, Jagielka, Mirallas, Pienaar, Osman, Neville, Fellaini, Jelavic Subs: Mucha, Oviedo, Naismith, Distin, Hitzlsperger, Gueye, Vellios Guess no Kennedy.
  10. Well I certainly don't see him as the kind of guy who would join a team like Norwich or something just so he can play games, either. Of course this is my own speculation, but the way I perceived his comments is that it's either Everton or nothing. I only posted this article because I felt it was relevant. I don't really have much of an opinion on whether Timmy should come back on loan or not. He definitely is not the same player he once was, but like someone else said, the team isn't worse off with him as an additional option for Moyes. I don't think we'd be losing out on anything big if he doesn't return either, though.
  11. If I can give a bit of perspective, MLS offseason (for Red Bull New York) starts now and the season does not pick up again until late March. Legitimate friendlies don't begin until mid-February or so. Because of the long offseason, a lot of MLS players (at least, the ones good enough) will go on trial in Europe; partially to increase their profile in Europe but also largely so they can keep in shape and improve during the offseason. In Cahill's case, I'm sure it's that he loves Everton and would love to train with the team during the MLS offseason and get involved in some reserve games. And if he is picked for the bench for the main squad a few times then even better. But I don't think he'd come here with the intentions of regularly featuring in the squad.
  12. Last night the New York Red Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs (in about the most brutal way imaginable). Cahill told NY media in his post-game press conference that a move on loan back to Everton during the MLS offseason is "possible." http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110/major-league-soccer/2012/11/09/3513885/marquez-and-henry-considering-offseason-loan-moves
  13. That's nothing. This was in ESPN The Magazine a year or so ago.
  14. Yeah I got a Euro spot my first season but the lack of a transfer budget was my downfall in EPL the second season (I finished 10th or something). Luckily, I went to the finals in Euro and reached the finals of the FA Cup, so I got a ton of revenue that way and now I have a decent transfer budget. Gibson's been a monster for me, weird to see that he failed for you.
  15. Four seasons in and a couple close calls with getting sacked but I finally got Everton some hardware. How's everyone else doing?
  16. It's rough for guys in Europe because when they come to MLS in what is their offseason our league is already in midseason form. Cahill has only scored one goal but he's been the physical, active guy in the box you'd expect him to be. Some NY fans are growing impatient with him but these are the same people who whined about Thierry Henry when he wasn't great after coming to MLS in the middle of the season. Now he's the best player in the league. Once Timmy has a full offseason to train and prepare and now that he's adjusted to MLS and North America I'm sure he'll be fine.
  17. No, but there were guys like Brian McBride, Landon in his prime, Clint Mathis, etc. Definitely not as high of a quality as it is now but it was still a solid league. Howard was just a totally different specimen physically and mentally. Definitely some hope for him for sure but I just don't see him becoming a competent starting goalkeeper for a top 8 EPL team.
  18. I don't care if Pele took the corner and a u15 girl's team is playing defense for you. Punch the ball away if there's any doubt you can catch it. Don't swat it back into your own net. He has very good reflexes but struggles technically and mentally. Yes, he's only 21, I'll bring up the Tim Howard comparison that I've brought up in the past; he absolutely DOMINATED Major League Soccer. At around the age Hamid is now, he convincingly won the goalkeeper of the year award in MLS. Hamid is doing a pretty good job but is hardly anchoring DC United. Nobody fears going up against Bill Hamid. He is young and goalkeepers generally tend to peak later than most players. I do believe he'll eventually make the move to Europe. But I think it will be to a lower profile team in Eredivisie or in Belgium or some other feeder league like that. Or maybe for a Championship team. I don't doubt his future in European football, but I can't possibly imagine him being the answer for a consistent top 10 team like Everton who has aspirations of a top five spot. Of course, just my opinion. For all I know he replaces Iker Casillas in Madrid three years from now.
  19. I'm not too big on Hamid, though at this point he is definitely one of the better MLS keepers. He's got some very good reflexes but he also has his fair share of Robert Green moments, if you will. This happened this past weekend in a playoff game against my (and Tim Cahill's) New York Red Bulls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrpQ7CmVPpI Another guy who I could see being a mid-table Championship goalkeeper at best.
  20. MacMath has some raw talents for sure but I don't know. There's a lot of concern about who will take over for Howard once he retires internationally because there really is not much to choose from. And MacMath isn't even in the picture, so I believe that says a lot about where he is at right now. With some maturing and development (which he needs a lot of) I could see him eventually working his way over to a lower end or midtable Championship team but I would be absolutely shocked if he ever turns into EPL quality. Nonetheless, it doesn't hurt to take a look and I'm not going to be the one to complain about increasing our profile in the United States.
  21. If I'm not mistaken it has more do to with the fact that Alex Ferguson doesn't let players play in friendlies, no? Nonetheless, maybe not the best contrast, but I think the point is still made.
  22. http://soccernet.esp...-soccer?cc=5901 Seems like a loan is not happening, but a permanent move for the next season might be possible. I think this article highlights a broad range of reasons why people don't like Donovan. He hasn't played a single National Team game since May. Every time there's been a game he's claimed injury or sickness (though apparently was fit enough to play club games). Now he's deciding he's just going to take some time off and will miss Qualifiers next year. And then he feels bad for himself and passive aggressively implies he doesn't think his teammates want him around because of their unfair assumptions about him. And he can't even give a clear answer about whether he wants to play in the 2014 World Cup because he's not sure whether he'll "enjoy playing" anymore. Can you even imagine someone like Ryan Giggs or Thierry Henry saying that? Those guys would play their hearts out in pre-season scrimmage, and yet a 30 year old Landon Donovan doesn't even know if he'll want to play in the World Cup in a year and a half? If the same exact concept for a story was published a month from now except "USA" and "Landon Donovan" were replaced with "Portugal" and "Sad Ronaldo" would anybody even know the difference? He's right, he doesn't have an obligation to play for the US, but that's besides the point. David Beckham wasn't pushing for a spot on the Olympic team because he felt obligated to. Paul Scholes didn't reluctantly come back to Man U (though they did need him) because he felt obligated to. They did it because they wanted it. Landon just doesn't and never has had the same passion and drive. Anyway, I digress. The relevant information here is that a loan this winter won't be happening but that all signs point to him making a permanent move to England in the next year or so.
  23. Like I said, shipping is probably a bitch. But if someone is willing I'm not against this I guess.
  24. http://epltalk.com/2...Talk (EPL Talk) Tottenham agreed to a partnerhsip that will make the sales of Tottenham merchandise a hell of a lot easier. Tottenham is immediately trying to capitalize on the Dempsey capture. The only reason I don't own an Everton jersey is because my choices are to pay a ton of money on shipping from Europe or hope that one that is my size, isn't overpriced, and is of a player I want finds it's way on Ebay. Sorry, but I'm not interested in freakin' Yakubu and Arteta jerseys, Ebay. I don't expect Everton to compete with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United, but come on. It's a relatively prominent team and our National Team's starting goalkeeper has been a key figure for the club for over five years now. I would like to think there's a market to be had, especially in the New York/New Jersey area.
