  1. I'm really starting to think I never want to see Godfrey at CB again - he just offers to much going forward on the outside with his pace and willingness to run. His left foot is as poor as mine, makes me wonder if he couldn't possibly be the RB we need. Branthwaite was excellent, very calm and great recovery speed. Keane was almost unnoticeable because he just calmly did his job, and not only did Holgate actually remain in the game, he settled and played well. Young strikers did thier job and proved the deserve some minutes.

Shocking result. I was braced for 4-0, 5-1 even a couple days ago before we had another 4-5 players we scratched.

The commentator has just reminded me that we have been knocked out at this stage in six of the last seven seasons 😩

I thought he said 6 of 11? I was distracted by Friend's outstanding marking of Townsend on the ball.

I see it more as a 4-2-3-1 with both Davies and Gomes ahead of the back four. Three in front of them, Townsend, Iwobi, Gordon and Rondon up front.

Or 4-3-3 with Townsend and Gordon wide, Iwobi central or maybe even as a 10 with Davies and Gomes flanking him

  4. Jacksonville State is a really good program in their division, in the middle of nowhere in NE Alabama. Hell, they took Auburn to overtime in a season opener a few years ago, I left the game in the 4th quarter and went to a bar to watch the end. Speaking of which, I hope Auburn whips Penn State this weekend. FSU's collapse has been as fun to watch as Texas.

And agree, fuck Notre Dame, NBC and the pollsters that overrate them every year

I’m guessing it’s intended to be 3-4-3 to start, with Digne and Coleman wingbacks, and lots of high pressing from front 3.  Doubt Coleman can go more than 60 minutes running up and down the touchline, so maybe Davies comes on, or Gomes in middle with Doucouré moving to RWB late on.

I'd imagine we will be using both Coleman and Townsend to pinch down on McNeil. and the attacks to come from the left with Digne and Gray pushing up

He should retire and prolong his club career.

CONCACAF is such a grind in WCQ. It's not that teams are good - it's the fact they AREN'T good that makes it so rough. They play physical as fuck to level the skill gap. When you get an aggressive skilled attacker, they are going to kick the shit out of him to slow him down. Similar to what James experienced in the EPL, but with much less protection. The officiating in CONCACAF is woeful to start with, and when playing on the road, and the crowds are all over the ref from the opening whistle due to the the theatrics, crowding the ref after damn near every call....they just simply don't protect the players from the away team. It's a little better when we play stateside, at least we play on a quality pitch and the center ref isn't as intimidated by the crowd.

Last night we played on a dry patchy pitch with a track around it. In El Salvador there were police with riot shields in the corners, and when we took corners, they used the shield to protect the player taking the corner from the shit thrown at them - over the 8' chain fence that separates the stands from the pitch.

So yeah, if I am a Chelsea, and I have a $50M asset in his early 20's, the last thing I want is for him to be a star player for the US, going into that road environment on a regular basis. It would be like every UEFA away match being played in Albania or Belgrade or such.

    Really well put!

A lot of these targets are smoke and mirrors. They measure them how they want to and claim success. They don't seemingly care about making a real difference, all that is important is that they are seen to be making a difference.

Furthermore no-one actually knows what will make a difference. That doesn't mean things shouldn't be tried, if anything it probably means opposite, but that is what "the science" needs to focus on. I read a BBC article the other day claiming how obvious and clear it was that humans were causing the natural disasters we are seeing today but there was no clear evidence whatsoever... anywhere. I read around the subject a little and whilst there is someome, somewhere doing a report, it is largely unfunded and will probably never see the light of day!

Down 1-0 already. Can't believe I'm gonna stay up to watch us lose 1-0 or 2-0.

I don't think Gregg loses his job yet, but if we don't have more than 7 points after the next round of matches, he's gone.

This is... I dunno, I got nothing
