  1. To be honest a draw away to a Championship team in the FA Cup is a decent enough result to be honest.

Lower teams, especially when they are at home are real banana skins. No need to name names, but a lot of Prem teams found that out this weekend against a lot lower team than Millwall.

Millwall's keeper was man of the match and was keeper of the 3rd round, so that says a lot considering now lots of lower league keepers tend to play out of there skin on 3rd round week.

We are in no other competitions other than the FA cup and league - so even if we drew every FA cup away game we play this season - and brought them to a tie in Goodison, is all good for the clubs coffers to be honest.

We have a busy Xmas period - but not many weeks now when we have to play 2 games a week.

  2. He would be eligible because he hasn't played in it for us has he?

Strange one this Kroldroup situation -

There have been so many stories and rumours that its difficult to actually see what the truth is with him.

    - Is he struggling with life on Mersyside on a personnal level

    - is he depressed because of the injuries,

    - is he sh1t like some are saying,

    - does he just need a run in Prem football to sort out any or all of the above.

I guess as a new player you would feel a bit left out if you join a club (know nobody and spend no time training with your new team mates). I don't know, I could see why he would be a bit depressed with life in Liverpool at the moment.

If the above is the situation them maybe a move back would suit all parties.

  3. With all the talk of big investment at Pompey over the last week- Do you think going to there place next weeks is going to be bad timing.

If there are a few new faces or money in the bank, and a sugur daddy watching the first Prem game - I get the horrible feeling there team could put on the performance of the season.

A week ago I would have really fancied out chances of picking up away three point.

Are the Gods against us - we seem to be playing most teams at the wrong time this season.

  4. A projected budget must have been prepared for the season - with a fair few million set aside for transfers (say up to £10M)

But going out of the CL, then the UEFA Cup and the Carling Cup at the very first hurdle, and stuck in the bottom half of the table, is likley to have wiped out £7-8M estimated revenue already. Such failure so far this year has probabley shocked the management as much as us.

Just the way it is, and I am not suprised the purse strings have tighten somewhat, we don't have a russian millionaire yet, so books have to balanced a little better.

  5. Oh yes, 1 mil for grav and get 3 mil for bent, well have 2 mil left for nugent

       :o

the silly season is upon us.

Let it go, move on, i'm firmly in the "played well for half a season camp" and think all parties should move on, would you put him in instead of cahill and arteta or even phil neville

I wouldn't, just think back before last season

Tend to agree Zed - he was decent for most of his time - Excellent for 6 months

  6. Have my doubts to be honest-

Anelka says he fancies coming back to the Prem - Everton need a striker. A case of 'two and two' to me.

Anelka is in the £5M+ bracket - I am lead to believe we don't have much to work with on this front.

To me Moyes places as much on a players character and temprement as he does playing ability. Would he wan't a player nicknames 'Le Sulk'.

So there are three fairly good reasons why I am not going to get to excited just yet.

As a striker Anelka is top draw in my opinion - He is still only 26 years old (in his prime), fast as hell, and has proved himself at Prem level as good as any most strikers, he would definately score goal.

Thing is with Anelka he always seems to want to play for a top club, and sees all other clubs as a stepping stone. If he did come, would he just be trying to put himslef in the shop window, or has he come to terms with playing for a middle of the road club.

In any case if he came for £6M, scored 15-20 goals a season and then wanted to go after 12 months, I guess we wouldn't lose much money - and get a fair goals return in a 12 month period. If we turned around a striker like that every season it wouldn't bother me as long as somebody is scoring.

I would have him at the club, just becasue of the last sentance to be honest - But I can't see this deal coming off in all honesty.

Does he still figure in the French squad? and is he fishing to get on the plane to Germany

  7. I don't think it is just money to be honest - Pains me as a say, but bigger and more succesful comes in to the equation as well.

At the moment big and successful we are not.

I must be honest wouldn't like to see Grav's coming to Goodison in another teams colours. But if we have really only got limited funds to bring players in, a striker or two is a must with Grav's a luxery we probabley can't afford.

  8. Aye football as the game i knew and loved is long gone.

Its all about money now, nothing more, nothing less, theres no loyalty left in the game, every player has his eye on the next big payday, and frankly thats sad.

Football as a brand is in a unique postion,no moving clubs like the latest pop trends,no sir,you become a fan and stay one.

And the clubs repay this how?

By screwing every last penny out of us,shirts every summer, and all the other shite that goes with it.

    Tis sad.

    Very true Fozzie,

And as I said on the other posts, a lot of the money in the game is so heavily slanted to the top 3 or 4 clubs, that clubs like our have to put ourselves at huge finacial risk just to hang on to their tails.

And for a club like ours and the majority of clubs like us, it is the fans that have to be 'squeezed' to produce these revenue streams to keep the clubs paying the wages, for what in the main is pretty ordinary football (and that is not just Everton).

Looks like Birmingham are going to be parting with around £1M in wages for Chris Sutton in 6 months. Thats 40,000 fans parting with £25 each to cover that.

But what do you do? Boycott and its only one club that would end up suffering.

  9. don't know so much about DM not nowing what his is doing, but not wanting to pay a 32 year old who has only been playing scottish football for the last 5 year, £32,000 to £38,000 a week is not that difficult a decision.

Would you have conducted a deal to make Chris Sutton the highest paid player at the club?

He could come to Birmingham and score a shed load and be worth the money. But I haven't got hindsight so can only go on the immediate fact.

At this moment in time, I think almost £1M wages in 6 months on Chris Sutton isn't the best option. He will have no residual value what so ever.

Is there anybody who thinks we should have pulled all the stops out and signed him and made him our highest earner? I doubt it very much

If he was coming for a more normal £15,000 to £20,000 a week then fair enough.

  10. He will be playing for Cardiff against Arsenal this Saturday - So it may give an idea of how well he may cope with Prem football -

Trouble is if he has a good game or even gets on the score sheet, then you will probabley find his price go up by £1M.

Hope, he is a player Moyes is considering. Get on offering in before the Arsenal game to show the player you are interested.

  11. I think both Spurs and Bolton had poor 10 or so games run without a win, then went on blinding runs.

Not saying we will go on a blinding run or anyhting like that, just that other than the top 3 or 4 teams and perhaps one or two right at the bottom, there is VERY little between the rest of us.

Even half way through a season there are only 6 point between a team battling for a UEFA place in 9th (Man City - 28 points) and a team close to the relegation zone in 16th (Middlesbrough - 22 points)

Its a fairly even in the middle of the table and you also get te feeling there is more to come from our team, and we have the players in the squad that are capable of the pushing the team on. Rather than seasons gone by when you look at the squad and thought 17th will do me come May.

  12. Sound very much like he could be on his way to Birmingham now.

But if £38,000 a week is what it is going to take to bring him to Goodison, then good luck to him I say. Chris Sutton - top earner at the club - will never happen, and neither should it.

Shame though, I thought he would be a decent squad player.

  13. I think both Tekke and his club have turned down Wigan more than the other way around.

Sounds a prolific scorer and the old rumour mill is talking £2-3M, the same money as banded around for Bent.

    In

Sutton - Big lad, English, free or minimal fee

    Tekke - £2-3M

    Nugent/Jerome/some other young hotshot - £1.5M

    Toldo - free/minimal

Goncalves - Young left back - £1M or less

    Total - say £6M

    Out

    Wright - £1.5M

    Naysmith -£500,000

    Bent - £2.0M

    Total say £4.0M

    Out lay of £2M

3 better strikers than Bent and plenty of competition, better keeper and a left back as cover and for the future.

That would cheer me up this january and not in dreamworld.

  14. I would say Davies is a central/right sided midfeild player rather than a right winger if you get my drift. More inclined to drift in from the right than hug the by-line so to say.

But I agree he was bought to play on the right. Again Moyes going for a more physical hard worker rather than your fancy dan 'Lauret Robert' type of winger. Those who can do both, the 'Giggs' of this world cost more than £3.5M.

  15. We should have signed Ashton last january

F*cking Hell Fozzie - I agree with you

Paying £6-7m is to much for him now - we need to be buying player that will be the 'new' Dean Ashton.

Cameron Jerome (£1.5M) and Nugent (£2M) - cheap wages and the potential to make money on them both. Both player for half the price of Ashton, and all possibility both are just as good maybe even better.

Ashton's a decent enough player, but had half a season in the Prem and a hatrick the other week. £6-7M we would be suckers to pay that.
