  1. I think Wyness is a decent business man, especially with the football cross-over and they are making in roads to running Everton as a better business. However, I think the majority of last year good finacial results (or turnover) can be direclty attributed to: - Rooney transfer (and the intrest saving of having his money in the bank) - Premiership Prize money on last seasons league position - Larger slice of TV money on the back of a good league position - Better sponsership deal because of last season league position Common denominator???? We have got decent TV exposure the first end of this season, on the back of last season results. So between now a Xmas - the team needs to be 'on form' and get up the table so we are in Sky's thoughts for the second half of the season and able to get a larger chunk of prize money. The turnover generated last seasons is only sustainable if the club does reasonabley well on the pitch. Its not as if last season some new previousely unknow source of revenue has been found at Goodison park. Simple - Highest ever finish in Premiership = highest ever turnover. What is a little scary is we finished 4th and had our most finacial successful year ever making a whopping £100,000 profit. (all transfer dealings apart)
  2. I think there is a bit of creative journalisum there. - Everton announce record profits - we where looking at Klut, Owen, Keane in August - Everybody knows we need a striker in January - £10M sound a reasonable figure. OK lets write the story. No more reliable that our own discussions on the forum, except we are probabley a bit more knowlegable. Pinch of salt - I say
  3. I agree Fozzie next years finacial statement will be the real acid test. This years is greatly affected by the fact we had Rooney money on the books, and had a bit of a wonder season. Next season will have to take into account all the money spent this summer as well as January. We have had good Premiership coverage this half of this season, we need to really push on between now and Xmas with hopefully some good exiting football, so Everton are in the forefront of Skys minds when the second half of the years TV fixtures are drawn up. This article in the echo breaks things up a little. http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0400eve...-name_page.html Given the money in football these, and the fact last season was our best Premiership season ever, and the fact we sold a home grown player for £20M I would have been suprised if this had not been our most finacially successful season ever. I am usually one of the most optomistic posters on this forum, and I think a lot of good thinks have been done on the finacial side this last 12 months (maybe largely down to the fact the Rooney money did give us breathing space) But like Fozzie, I think its the next couple of year accounts that will really give us an indication if we are in the worlds Top 20 clubs finacially (couldn't belive that when I read it) I very much doubt it.
  4. Sorry, if I have pi55ed on anybodys chips, but I don't want anyone thinking we are making loads of money to spend in january. £100,000 doesn't go far these days!!!!!
  5. Slow down, Don't get to over exited about it just yet, I have a very strong feeling the money spent on player this summer is not taken in to account in these figures. i.e I think these figure are up to the end of LAST season - i.e money in for Rooney etc. But only money spent will only be that on BT and the summer befores signings. Not 100% sure exactely how the figure stack up (i.e is it £10M for Rooney in these accounts and a further £10M this year due to staggered payment, or is it the £20M/£28M that is included in these figures etc) I would hassard a guess that this running debt may still need to have the money spent this summer added to it. (It may look a lot smaller becasue the Rooney money that couldn't be spent last summer off set a large amount of the debt in this round of accounts) However, forgeting the transfer balance sheet, to turn around a operating profit of -£17M to +£0.1M is still a great achievment. So I basically think the profit shown for player transfer will have now evened itself out because we spent a lot more this summer than we got back on players sold. The running debt will be back nearer the £40M mark, but this is under control. The change from making -£17M to making £0.1M, means we don't have to sell our best players to pay of this annual operating loss or increase our overdraft or running debt (i.e we would be £44M + £17M = £61M in debt) In reallity, (forgetting any money made or spent on players) we made £0.1M profit between 1st June 2004 and 31st May 2005. I think the exact figure are a lot more complex than what I have talked about, but I think I am looking at them in the correct context.
  6. This is good news, 18 months ago this club seemed to be losing money hand over fist and didn't have two pennies to rub together. OK we have had a bit of good fortune with finishing 4th and the extra money that comes with it. But that alone doesn't account for a turnaround from a operatinng lose of £17M to a profit of £0.1M Not to mention the money Rooney brought in to the club, it gave us the breathing space needed. What it does go to show is that Everton are managing the finances a lot better than they have done in the past. The fact the running debt has been reduce from a whopping £47M to a more managable £28M is a huge bust for the club. So the finances of the club look to be managable and the most is starting to be made of the Everton 'brand'. We have a stronger squad now than we have had for a long long time. Other than the poor start to this season we have had, we have got as much to smile about now than we have had for a long time. I really think we are definately on the up (considering were we have been). It was just 12 months ago that we were all praying for the so called FSF to bring some money in to help ease our dire strates. How much is the club worth now, compared to when it was almost 'stolen' 12 months ago? Credit has to go to Moyes for the achievement of the pitch and to Wyness for the way the finacial running of the club. Let hope the next couple of years sees continuation of this good work.

  8. To be honest I think all the signings made this summer are going to be value for money, as non are broke the bank so to say. In order of value for money in my opinion - - VDM at £1.5M looks as if could be the deal of the season if his first hour in the Prem is anything to go by (especially when you consider how long he has been out injured). - Arteta looks as if he is a real deal quality Premiership player and a very good price payed - a lot of Spaniard flatter to deceive. - Neville - will be Captain by the end of the season me thinks - Ferrari - has looked decent all over the back line, Italian international defender - Davies - Has had a slow start, but I think if he can keep injury free will be a class act, good strong player with lots of heart - Valente - Slow start, but was still in pre season when asked to step in to the team at very short notice, looks very good going forward and is playing better with every game, injury just at the wrong time for him - Kroldroup - at the bottom because we haven't seen him yet - but comes with a good reputation, so am expecting him to strike up a great partnership with Yobo over the next couple of years. - Ruddy - One for the future Considering many players still didn't find Goodison Park and attractive place or didn't we wouldn't pay silly wages - (i give you Parker, Emre and maybe a striker or two) All in all I think Moyes has done well in the transfer market, no Charlie big potatoes on stupid wages, all hungary head down hard working players from what I can see and in the main good ages to take the club forward over the next 2-3 years. Even if 6 out of 8 turn out well, that is still a fair return, given money paid
  9. http://www.evertonfc.com/fans/index.php?page_id=1997 Read about this in the NotW yesterday. Don't know if anybody else has heard of this or is using it. But as it says, its money we spend anyway, why not make the club a few bob at the same time. I am going to sign up. As its focused purley at us.
  10. What is encourageing is that against Chelsea, it wasn't a case of Nigel Martin having an amazing game, it was a case that, playing 4-4-2 we limited THAT team to pot shots at our goal. Against Boro in mid week, we left a few players out, but overall in 90 min we were the better team. (just look at the stats from that game) Against Birmingham away, we created the better chances, and were again the better team. we have been like this for big periods in a lot of games this season, only to get hit buy a few sucker punches. Our performances are becoming solid for the whole 90 mins now, and I think the players confidence is growing. I think we have got quality players all over the park at the moment and they are starting to come together, Moyes has got the nucleuse of a good team and a couple more additions will make us a very decent squad. Its been a long time since I thought that about an Everton squad.
  11. Becasue of the wholesale changes to the squad this summer, I have said before the first ball kicked this season that we would struggle for the first couple of months. I think our euro exits and some of the unlucky breaks dealt to us in such a short period of time, have helped make the start even worst than I expected. In the majority of our games I don't think we have played that 'bad' allthough a couple of performances have been poor. I now think the out fall of our european adventure is behind us now. The squad is now coming together, and our injury list is getting smaller. We all know we are a striker short(especially with Beattie being injured), and lack of goal has been our main achillies heel. Confidence has been low, but I now think it's back on track. Our new player (who in the most cases have had a huge change in their lives, living out of hotels, trying to arrange a new home for the familiy etc) our now starting to bed in. VDM is looking like he could be a very good signing, and Simon Davies had his best game for us on Saturday. (Fozzie - You mentioned Davies leaving Spurs - I think it was a move that brough Jol some money, and Davies needed a change from Spurs, when Davies was at Spur he was always in the first 11 when fit.) Our next two prem games are both very winnable, and bar Man U away the remaining 6 games before January, are games we could also pick up points. I fully expect to really start to see the real Everton in the run up to Xmas/New Year. I have been slightly concerned at our lack of point up to now, but I think the next 8-10 games will Last year we could ONLY really play 4-5-1, but this season we are now maybe 1 player (striker) off a good 4-4-2 team.
  12. Know what you mean, it wasn't long till half time and he may have been able to run it of. Some you win some you lose. From Sky sports it was interesting that we had 60% possession and 10 corner kick to 1. It looks as if in this game that we were truly unlucky to get beat 1-0. As apposed to a lot of the games we have lost this season which were 50-50 at best.
  13. I am afraid I am with Adam. Having Nellive's steel and decent distrobution using 4-4-2 is a must, I would rather see Killa at left back. Left back is probabley Neville's worst positon, so to an extent is therefore wasted. At least with Killa playing LB the rest of the team, particularly our center backs, will be more than aware of killa's lack of experience in that position, and should therfore have one eye on covering him or at least be alert to the potential dangers and cover as required. Using neville at LB could give the rest of the squad a false sence of security. just a thought.
  14. http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/andy_van_d...news_55758.html He is a really or originally a right winger (right footed), this old article is quite interesting with regard to him being used on the left wing. I think it is going to be a few weeks before he starts to gel with the team, so plenty to look forward to. I hope he is able to make his full début against a Birminham, side who are as low on confidence as we are. One of our biggest weaknesses over a number of seasons, has been lack of quailty ball from either wing to be honest, and with Arteta and VDM. In Beattie, big dun and Cahill, we have got the players who should be able to make the most of quality crosses in the long run.
  15. I have read a few reports on the game, and it sounds as if Arteta had a really good game along with the Boro defence. Terms like '...the fast improving Everton side...' being used. Would have been really nice to get a win and start to get some momentum up, but I would rather us take 3 points of them in the league in 10 days time, considering our league position.
  16. VDM was hailed as one of the 'ones to watch' about 2-3 seasons ago when he played in the Dutch league, and burst on to the international scene. A quick skillful player who can play right across the park, get past people, and get good crosses in to the box as well as having a good eye for goal. Went to inter as a youngish lad and had a few problems with injuries and adjusting to life in seria A, and just never got a decent run in the team when he was out there. Read a few article on him this last few weeks, and apparently wasn't keen on the itailian training methods, i.e you did little full on training during the week, and basically kept up high level of fitness during games. Not good if you aren't getting the games in. Has said that the way he has had to train at Everton is much more like what he was used to in Holland. Which he really enjoys. It sounds as if the lad is a bit of a joker and really enjoys the crack, I don't think that sort of personality suits the italian league, partly due the lauguage and partly due to culture. So there are a couple of reasons why the lad didn't really cut it or enjoy his time in Italy. I think the pace, style and general culture of English football and England in general will suit him a lot better (more of a home from home). Also, he is very keen to get back in to the Dutch national frame this season, with the world cup coming up, a big incentive (allthough proffessional footballs shouldn't really need incentives like this). I think at very worst at £2-3M VDM will be a decent player for us, but he has the potential to be a great player as he was beginning to show at Ajax before his move to Italy. But don't all expect to see it against Boro tonight, we will not see the real VDM for at least a month - 6 weeks. Lets hope this Xmas all our kids will be clamering for Everton shirts with VDM on the back
  17. Me too - Looked a very good prospect a three of four seasons ago, but did bugger all really on the loan deals he has had. Nothing special in my eyes, Keane's got to be the one come January - considering he will be out of contract come the summer - £3M is going to be a realistic price for him - That is real value for money in my eyes. Everton have just got to start improving over the next couple of months to make us a realistic option for him.

  19. Good result. Chelsea have the players to cut teams to bits, especially a teams so frigile of confidence, but we limited them to, in the main, pot shots from distance. Beattie had a good game, and with a strike partner, I think he is going to get a few more goals for us. His penalty, didn't look like a player who is low on confidence. We still didn't create much, but hey Chelsea are a class act, all thier individual players are class acts, and they really do play as a team, so not suprises we didn't get many chances. We didn't scrap a draw, we earn that point. Shouldn't get over exicited by getting a draw at home, but Chelsea are that good at the moment. So hard not too. I thought the Goodison crowd were magnificent, considering how the team has been performning.
  20. Agree totally - I have stated this before, I somehow think we have a better chance of qualifying going to their place a goal down than a goal up. If we were going there a goal up - they would play their normal attacking home game (which is very good), and we would naturally sit deeper and deeper and hardly venture in to their half. I could easily see us losing by 3 or 4 goal. I can be very difficult playing at home when you don't need a result. Liverpool showed that last night. As you said pressure is on them, we haven't anything to lose tonight as everyone has us out already to be honest. Another plus for us is this is now our 4 competative game in 2 weeks, against their one that was two weeks ago. We are also used to playing high tempo football lets see them huffing and puffing in the last 20 mins. I hope toffee talk is a happy place tommorow - Good luck one and all
  21. The line I liked best was "...it was kill or be killed...." What's he f*cking on - a real drama queen. I hope they put him on his arse again and again and again . ... he will be crying like a bitch by the end of the night
  22. To be honest I think Baros was shitt1ng it at the idea of changing from a red to a blue and still being based in the city of Liverpool, just didn't fancy the crack that goes with that. Simple as that and nothing to do with money etc. So a bit of a pussy if you ask me
  23. http://www.evertonfc.com/news/index.php?page_id=7325 Suprised its not been posted sooner. That will give the lad a boost ahead of Wendesday night game. Hopefully he will have a bright future at the club.
  24. http://www.feyenoord.com/domains/feyenoord...=12820000000021 No doubting his scoring ability over the past 2 or 4 seasons. What you know about his style - does he have pace?
  25. If we made the offer for Kuyt on the 1st August, and today is really the first sniff of it, shows that the club could be in for anybody- and we don't know about it. Good thing that cards are being placed close to Everton's chest. I been three weeks, so maybe coming out and making the statement about both Owen an Kuyt is about trying to get things moving one way or another. Or it could be the case that we are now looking at other players instead, so Owen and Kuyt have to make their minds up ASAP if Everton is a possible destinaton. Lot of stories about Liverpool and Owen - don't know how true they are, but they are being very slow to bring him in if you ask me. I wouldn't have Owen would be interested in anything more than a 12 months load to Everton. I know a lot of people are sceptical of nosies make out of Goodison after our Alan Smith bid last summer, be we aren't in the same situation this summer, and this has come from Moyes, who is straight as they come, so have no reason to doubt what he says.
