Why would an England manager, with hundreds of options available, choose to play someone in a position with which they are unfamiliar? It sounds nuts to me.
It looks as though Hodgson is trying to force a position for him.
-
Iv always been a Martinez supporter but iv lost faith now too. Before the investment i thought he was the best we could go for and his signings were very positive. Now with the investment we need to aim higher. He has lost the fans and i think he has lost the players to an extent also.
I think its time for a change.

He's the only player in our side that seems to tell it as it is to "anyone". I have seen him tear into , Gerry, McCarthy, Lukaku, Howard... that to me is the type of player we need in our side.
I would love to have a microphone on the pitch - as much as I love Jags and Baines they just aren't "alpha male" enough to assert their authority on the team. That person was Howard - and he has been poor for too long.
For me the absolute biggest signing we can make is a midfield mentor and minder for Barkley. Imagine a Roy Keane or a Viera in the side now? We wouldn't need two DM's - Barkley could drop back and get tuition along with many roastings when he is deciding to have a lazy day, opening up a slot for a second striker or a David Silva to operate between the lines.
You would find Rom making more "energetic" displays, you wouldn't find John Stones doing flicks and Cryuff turns. They would probably tell the manager a few home truths and be able to do so.
Agree with this!
Say we keep all of our players this summer which i doubt, but if we do i think our transfer targets need to be commanding characters in the spine of the team, Keeper, CB & CM, they would be my priorities. We are too nice and quiet and it needs to change.
-
I don't ever want us to sell Coleman. His game has been affected by Martinez, i actually thought he would do better under him but its not been the case, same with Baines.
-
Iv said this all along regarding Robles, hes a good backup keeper but that's it IMO. I think people were so desperate to see Howard replaced they wanted Robles as no1 especially after a few good cup appearances. Not good enough as our no1.

There is only Payet id take from West Ham. Never been a fan of Noble and he's certainly not better that what we already have.
Payet wont stay at West Ham this summer, Chelsea, Man City and UTD all need improving i can see one making a bid for him. Will take a big bid though id imagine.
-
It took man city years of blowing over the odds on decent players like robinho, santa cruz. lescott etc before they could get the likes of aguero - I actually hate West Ham right now.
I want Man United to stuff them I think.
I hate West Ham too. Id love to beat them at Wembley but id absolutely hate losing to them.

One of the benefits of having money to spend, regardless of whether it's actually spent or not, is that agents will see us as a club where they might have opportunity to do business rather than seeing our players as the opportunities for them to do business.
Could mean that they'll be more reluctant to threaten the relationship by touting our players to other clubs, which would be great. It's always galling to see our players being linked with mediocrity such as Tottenham, West Ham etc. simply because of the perception (rightly or wrongly) that we need to balance the books.
Comments on a West Ham forum after our recent capitulation to them were asking whether Bilic's praise of Lukaku after the match was because he intended to buy him at the end of the season. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
That is a good point, i hadn't thought of that either.
West Ham couldn't afford to buy Lukaku and i don't think he would even be tempted to join them. If he leaves us it will be for a regular Champs league team.

Beating West Ham in the final would be amazing!

I'm surprised in what I'm reading here... were promised proper investment and people want to sign Navas, Carrick and Hart.
There are better keepers in the BPL alone with better ability than Hart which woild be avaliable probably a lot cheaper. Same goes with Navas. The two of these are players which are questioned all the time for their ability in a top, top team, which we finally have the potential to get to.
I'm not even going to get started on Carrick, no disrespect.
I'd like to see a new keeper, an up and coming right back for back-up to Coleman, a new sitting playmaker to replace Barry whenever he decides he can't play until he's 55, a left winger and a hungry young striker who looks to have potential.
You know what? Part of me wants to see Wayne Rooney back this season, despite how unlikely that may be.
I said id take Carrick on a free, thats all! starting to regret even typing his name now haha.
Id be gutted if we signed Navas.
Disagree about Hart, he's a very good keeper. Id rather have Butland tbh or Fraser Forster though.
Any deal with Stones going to City id like to see Bony come as part of the deal.
Its all uncharted territory this for all of us really as we are used to being linked with shite, new era, bigger names and tbh im not sure where to start.

How much i regret saying sign Carrick on a free! haha.

Honestly the more and more i think about it. I think Moshiri will give Roberto next year, during which time he will be taking over the majority of the club and then after next campaign he will either sack martinez (if he hasn't won a trophy or CL) or sign him to another deal (if he wins stuff). I dont' think the new owner wants to fire him just yet, i'd think he would want continuity while he takes over.
I think it all depends on the rest of the season. The majority of fans either want him out or they are struggling to defend him. A few more poor results and the Martinez supporters (myself included) will start to turn, then i cant really see Moshiri wanting to hand over £100m transfer kitty to a manager who has lost the fans.
-
I'd take Hart, very good keeper. again though he has that lapse in concentration and makes the odd silly mistake. Massive improvement on what we have though.
Not sure if we could sign him, although if he wants to stay in the Prem im not sure where else he would go.

Seeing as lots of people are going to be talking about Simeone can you think of my sanity and use Atletico rather than Athletico. Please?
Many apologies, didnt think a very slight error would mess with your sanity! Hope your ok!
I'm not sure why people are laughing so much at the Simeone shout? but yet Mourinho's name is being branded about.
If Mourinho takes over at UTD, Pep has the City job, Chelsea look to have sealed Conte, so then if he decides to manage a team in the Prem then why not us? Id never thought possible before the investment, but with the promise of a large transfer kitty, new stadium and the usual high salary that we pay our managers then why wouldn't he come? I don't think its as unrealistic as what some people are making out.

We already have Barry. Who although has done very well needs replacing. We should be looking for experienced 25 year olds not 35 year olds
I'm sure we will be. First time iv looked forward to a transfer window.

it looks like we are all on the same page,
1. I would go for Leno over Heart, younger and I wouldn't say Heart would go to a none champ league team (not sure Leno would either).
2. De Boer is a great shout I would go for Lucien Favre over him done a great job who ever he has been out seems to be a hybrid between Moyes and Martinez.
3. Stadium long term plan
4. Buy back academy
5. Retain the squad
6. Centre mid (Carrick is out of contract in the summer worth a free transfer move?)
Carrick is a good shout on a free, i can actually see that happening.
Certainly need a commanding CB too. Hopefully get Yarmolenko finally and id be happy with Begovic as our keeper.

Don't get me wrong yesterday in the second half we were brilliant but if you look at the first half the 3 at the back didn't work. Stones looked lost we should have been 2-1 down apart from a great Robles save and the post. Roms goal he created himself. I go back to the mirralas pen against west brom, he isn't strong enough to pick the right man for the job. Roms pennos even when he scores are not convincing. In fact they are shit. Every penno I've seen jags take have been top quality even the florentina penno save was a worldly.
Agree with this, i'm not sure why Lukaku takes the penalties they never look convincing.
For me iv always been a Martinez supporter as i like a lot of what he offers the club, BUT the results are starting to take the piss now and especially how we are losing. I'm tired of us being such a soft touch.
-
What about Diego Simeone? Doesn't seem to get a mention. Done a great job at Atletico, been there a while now so may be seeking a new challenge. Id never have considered him a realistic target but with the new investment he may be tempted? Thoughts?
De Boer is a good shout also. I think now the investment has come in and we are looking at the a different standard of player i think the Eddie Howe shouts need to stop, we need a manager that could attract some top names to play for us.
***edited for the sake of peoples sanity*** ;-)

I cant see Yarmolenko going to China tbh, he's already stated he wouldn't go to Barcelona as he wants to play regular football, so i don't think he's after the money.
Hopefully we sign him in the summer, maybe the fact we don't have to pay in installments over 5 years may push the deal through!
-
Id be disappointed come the summer if David Marshall is our keeper. I'm hoping the Begovic rumours are true, i think that would be a great signing.
-
For me Gerry is too inconsistent I don't see him being around long at Everton.
Unless of course he gets his head out of the clouds and works hard and improves his fitness and stamina.
Maybe Roberto is using this time to help improve Deulofeu's fitness, for such a young athlete he seems to lack stamina. Lennon's great form could be giving Martinez the chance to work with him on this.
If he fails with us then i see his career going into decline as i doubt Barcelona would want him back

On the pitch a keeper first choice butland second begovic. Left sided player yarmelenko or bolaise . A playmaker praet and a striker. Ossie,Howard, peanuts, gibbo all gone. Off the pitch get rid of elstone now. Obviously the ground, get rid of kitbag sort the generic shit kits we are Everton we have an original kit every season, not a fucking collar change or double rings on the arms
If after all this time being linked to Yarmolenko we end up with Bolasie i think i'll cry.
-
wow remember that when he wins everything with city,Madrid or barca. The lad is pure quality let's remember he is 21/22 and playing against top quality strikers. How many premier league games has he had? 50/60 ? Him and mori could be our centre back partnership for the next ten years. Why would you want a young player like that to leave us? Let me guess? He his big headed, believes his own hype, overplays, loses concentration? Standard accusations that bores me to tears. We could have a great young team with stones being the captain for years to come
All opinions. If he stays and proves us wrong then great but i think he's over-rated too and if he played for another club i think most Evertonians would say the same. Don get me wrong he has ability and i do think he's a good player but IMO he is over-rated. If we got £40m for him this summer id be happy, £30m + Bony id be made up.

If Lukaku goes id like to see us go in for Bony, great for Swansea, strong, works hard and scores goals.
