  15. Everton have made one of their best starts in many seasons - winning their first two matches convincingly and now looking towards the Reading game for their next three points. They are also sitting proudly on top of the Premier League table and there is even talk about them breaking into the top four. So is this brash arrogance, or are David Moyes's boys really destined for the big time? As the saying goes, the ball is round and anything can happen. But there are a three important factors that can either deflate that ball or make it zip around much faster. How many more players will Everton bring in? Even though Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar are quality performers, the squad is still rather threadbare. To last the distance, Moyes really needs to draft in classy players such as Manuel Fernandes and Yakubu, as well as blood a few more youngsters from the academy to provide that necessary cover. What will the injury list be like? The influential Tim Cahill and James Vaughan are currently in the treatment room, but more importantly, how long will Goodison talisman Mikel Arteta stay free from injury? Arteta draws physical attention in every game that he plays, so Moyes may have to use him more sparingly to try to keep him injury-free. Who will continue to score the goals? Of the five Everton have netted so far, only one came from a striker - Victor Anichebe. The rest were scored by defenders Joleon Lescott and Alan Stubbs, plus two from midfield dynamo Leon Osman. My view is that if the Toffees bring in good solid players, keep the injuries to a minimum, and continue to contribute goals from defence and midfield, there will be no stopping them breaking into the top four

  17. Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has revealed his delight at landing Tottenham striker Mido. Southgate has held off stern competition from Premier League rivals Sunderland and Birmingham to land the Egyptian. Mido finalised his near £7million move on Wednesday evening, before Boro's 1-0 defeat to Wigan. Southgate was still reeling following Boro's dismal showing as they suffered their second successive defeat of the new season, but he could not hide his joy at sealing his latest capture - his fifth of the summer. Delight "We're delighted to get Mido," said Southgate, "It's important to keep strengthening the squad because we're short of experienced players. "I've been wanting a centre-forward who can hold up the ball. He has got a physical presence and can be a leader on the field. "Ultimately he has to score goals as well and I think Mido has all those attributes." this will clear the way for yak to join us
  18. i was looking at the betting oods before the start of the season and we was 250/1 looking at them now they have droped to 100/1 i cant see us winning due to the Small squad we have.. if we got injuries to key players u would say that would be it for us if we have some luck with that i think he could be pushing for a place between 7.4 placers
  19. Everton city stadium plan: first picturesAug 16 2007 A RIVAL plan to stop Everton FC moving to Kirkby was unveiled today. Cash-and-carry firm Bestway published the first images of the proposed 50,000-seater stadium on the site of its Scotland Road premises, also known as the “loop” or “tunnel trumpet”. It includes a landmark tower containing a hotel and other leisure facilities. Bestway has been working with Liverpool council on an alternative ground-move project in a bid to convince Everton FC to ditch its proposed relocation outside the city boundary. Company bosses today said it hoped fans would realise there is “an option to keep Everton in Everton” when voting in the ongoing ballot to decide the club’s future. Blues chief executive Keith Wyness last week insisted the Bestway plans were not viable, saying the site was not big enough to accommodate the club’s ambitions. But the company is now in talks with stadium architects HOK Sport, which designed Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, and engineering firm WSP Group about progressing its scheme. HOK did not draw up the images published today. Bestway’s head of property Malcolm Carter said: “We hope that fans can see there is an option of voting to keep Everton in Everton from this proposal. The size and stature of the two companies we are working with shows how serious we are about the project and I know the council shares our determination. “When the ballot is over we want to be in a position to sit down with the club and demonstrate our site is a viable option.” Bestway described the images as “some of the early thoughts” surrounding the Scotland Road site rather than a finished design. It said the tower would give the site “landmark status” and “increase its viability” by providing space for a hotel, leisure facilities and commercial uses. It also wants to bridge surrounding roads so the site can be accessed and create a “suitably dramatic entrance” to the stadium. Council leader Warren Bradley, who supports the Bestway proposal, said: “The loop site is a real possibility.”
  20. According to the Liverpool Echo, Portuguese ace Manuel Fernandes will undergo a medical on Merseyside today ahead of signing a five year deal at Goodison Park. Everton are understood to have agreed fees with both Benfica and the investment bank that own the other half of the player. Should Fernandes sign in the next 24 hours, he will be eligible to be part of Everton’s squad for Saturday’s visit to Reading.
