  1. Dan Gosling has admitted a Football Association misconduct charge in relation to "multiple breaches" of betting rules: http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/Dan-Gosling-admits-FA-betting-charge/story-20788879-detail/story.html http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/ex-everton-fc-star-dan-gosling-6794684?
  2. Laurent Koscielny returned from international duty with a injury too and is doubtful, and with their Champions League second leg tie on Tuesday in Munich it's definitely a good time to be playing them. We just need all of our players on their top game tomorrow and no brain farts.
  3. Yes, same here. He looks like a neat and tidy midfielder who would fit in well, and the fact that he provides decent cover at LB too is a bonus.
  4. Predictable speculation in view of him not getting many games across the park and being a key player at Swansea under Martinez: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-joe-allen-everton-3172758?
  5. Back in training today, according to his Twitter, and expected to be ready for the West Ham match: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2561922/Lukaku-training-ankle-injury-Everton-star-targets-West-Ham-return.html
  6. George Green's recent FA Youth Cup goals have earned him a feature in the Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2561889/George-Green-Everton-starlet-likened-Goodison-legends-Gascoigne-Rooney-IN-THE-SPOTLIGHT.html
  7. Another vote for Naismith. Great movement and alertness when he came on and changed what had been a very one-paced game.
  8. The proposed new league would involve the same teams that are in the Under-21 league, which is those who are classed as category one in the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP). Their current U21 teams would be replaced by a U23 team with allowance for four over-age players. It looks as though Roberto's complaints about the difficult transition from youth football to first team may be addressed by this new league, which is intended to be more competitive and would have matches broadcast from the club's main stadium. The clubs with Category 1 Academy status are currently Premier League sides Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle, Norwich, Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Brom and West Ham, and Football League clubs Bolton, Blackburn, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Reading and Wolves. 9. Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace Mirallas
  10. Interesting stuff from Sylvain in this interview: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2554917/Retirement-I-want-play-I-reach-65-says-evergreen-Everton-defender-Sylvain-Distin.html I liked this comment: "It gets more difficult every year because of the strikers that are around. Look at Romelu (Lukaku, a team-mate). He is 20, taller than me, my weight, and he is naturally like that. I go to the gym every day to be like that. He doesn’t have to do anything."
  11. THE NUMBERS GAME: Martinez has transformed dour Everton into tiki-taka wonders... but do they need some old Moyes steel to get Champions League football? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2554539/The-Numbers-Game-Everton-transformed-Roberto-Martinez-need-David-Moyes-steel.html#
  12. It shows how far our expectations have been raised that we're disappointed not to be closer to fourth place, and in reality I'd be happy with fifth and a European place this season. It hurt every time the RS put one in the net today, though.
  13. He made his debut for Crystal Palace today and scored and set up another in their 3-1 win against WBA. I'm one of those who would be interested to see him at Everton as I think he's a skillful young player and could develop well under Martinez and could also be a long-term successor to Pienaar, so I'll be watching his loan spell with interest. Shame about his Dad...
  14. Sounds like the big man is almost ready and itching to get playing. RM says some good stuff about his link-up play in the final third which is what has been lacking at times this season: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/roberto-martinez-hails-hunger-lacina-6682579
  15. Everton now a team of thinkers thanks to Martinez influence, says Baines There's a really interesting interview in the Echo today with Leighton Baines about the new challenges RM is posing to the players, and how much he's enjoying it. “It’s still a work in progress at times. Every time we get comfortable in certain aspects the manager will introduce something else. We’re slowly improving as a team. You enjoy it if you enjoy thinking about football. We’ve got a lot of players doing their coaching badges so it’s interesting for them. I enjoy figuring things out and solving problems. Just trying to get on the same page as the manager and his staff." Well worth a read: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-fc-team-thinkers-thanks-6681693?
  16. Apparently he was having a break in Paris between last weekend's match and yesterday's meeting, and had allowed the Spanish players to return to Spain for a few days, which seems odd ahead of their massive "six pointer" derby game, but - as noted above - apparently he often missed training sessions and rarely addressed the team before or after games. I've kept half an eye on him since he was linked with us last summer and I'm glad he's not our manager. From the outside looking in, it's seemed that things haven't been right there since the summer.
  17. This would be the fourth time Swansea has asked Jones to become their manager. Hope he sticks with Roberto as they're clearly a good partnership: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/swansea-city/10618109/Swansea-City-part-ways-with-manager-Michael-Laudrup.html
  18. I get the impression that Laudrup has plans to move on as soon as an offer from a bigger club comes along, while the Swansea chairman has been looking for some assurances for the future but has been unable to establish that Laudrup will be around. There is also talk that he has been 'remote' from the board recently (he was accused of the same last summer when the transfer window opened, which suggests that they may not see eye to eye over transfer strategy), and there are suggestions of cliques in the squad, none of which is very healthy at a club that seems to be run on a stable basis and lives within its means.
  19. Agreed. Although his teamwork was improving before his injury, I'd say he's far from ready to go into the Barcelona team. Hopefully they'll see the benefit to him of another season with us, starting more games and hopefully getting European experience too.
  20. I was frustrated on his behalf on Saturday because for a lot of the game he was in acres of space on the right but the team didn't use him. In fact they seemed under instruction to pass sideways across the pitch to Baines almost every time! When Stones got forward he tended to pause and pass inside rather than try to slide McGeady through, but I daresay they're still getting used to each other and when Coleman is back maybe they'll link up more effectively as he'll know McGeady's game from their international experience. It would have been some full home debut for him if that great early shot had gone in off the post!
  21. One thing I really noticed when he made his second England appearance is that he ventured a lot further up the pitch than he did for Everton and he looked confident and effective bringing the ball forward and looking forward for a pass. Presumably he was instructed not to play like that for Everton at the time. This makes me think that he would be the ideal addition to our midfield stable because he could comfortably slot in for Barry or McCarthy and I think Martinez would restore his confidence and bring the best out of him. But of course the big if - a MASSIVE 'if' - is whether he could stay fit. Unfortunately it looks as though Everton and Man City have thrown their considerable resources and expertise at the problem and failed to find a solution, which is a real shame.
  22. Not surprising really. They obviously think highly of him and he was linked with the job last time too.
