He's bought in a lot of players for the reserves and U 18. They're not exactly trainees but both English and foreign players to revamp what was a youth system with really poor players. Since then we've won the FA youth cup twice and the reserve league once.

Here too he's had a problem with not having complete control over the youth system, both with regards to players..playing techniques..and training. (Remember he's been the manager of the Castilla, so he probably knows what he's doing with regards to young players) Its something that other managers just expect but Rafa's had to fight for it. Parry got in Piet Hamburg jus because he was his sons mate. Bloody shame whats happening behind the scenes for us... we're a laughing stock.

You are :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hopefully with Parry gone we can finally buy the players we need.

Vidic, Diaby and Malouda were all possibilities if it wasn't for Parry. Even Christina Ronaldo was a possibility years and years ago.

According to a strong whisper on TIA we may have had Villa on his way last year before Parry pulled out because of the money...

What's your take on the stat I posted a bit higher up Red...

"Since Rafa joined Liverpool he's signed (not including trainee's given a contract of which there have been eighteen) seventy-three players."

Doesn't it worry you? Obviously worries the people writing up his new contract as sole reponsibility for transfer policy seems to be the sticking point  . Given the facts I'm not surprised :) .

There are loads and loads of home based reds pissed off with all the money he has squandered Mike and can you blame them........................for me he's doing a marvelous job

There are many players that Benitez has bought that I woulden't want us to touch with a barge-pole. Players like Ngog & Riera up front just seems like a waste, I don't even know why he has them because they don't do anything, especially Ngog. He's wasted chances and dosent seem to know where the goal is. One goal so far isn't good enough in my opinion.

Signings don't seem to be good enough at Liverpool and money is being wasted, from an Evertonian point of view thats great, but from a Liverpudlian view then that's suicide. With money going down the drain success will never come. This season has gone right downhill since Ferguson's speech and I don't see how they're going to pick themselves up with all the problems they have with the board. It's become a laughing stock of a club and until that changes success will never come.

Maybe this is the time for Benitez to pack his bags.

It seems Dark that the Kuwaitis are back in to buy the club per SSN this morning. They will see details like that and will certainly question his machine gun approach to the transfer market <_<

One thought crossed my mind is the fact that the Americans almost certainly have to sell as they can't afford to repay their outstanding loan with the RBS, does that mean we all now control the Shite as the nation owns RBS?????, now that is an interesting thought :lol::lol:

Riera upfront? He's a winger whose done better than a decent job this year. He's been poor of late granted.

 at the Ngog comment. He's a 19 year old striker whose a regular in the France U 21 squad. He wasnt brought in as a first teamer and still scored a goal with his FIRST LEAGUE START of the season. Till date, he's started 1 league game. You speak of him as if he's a regular.

Mikeo: As i said before, a lot of the 73 players were brought for the reserves. Surely, there's a difference?

I read an interesting article by Tomkins recently.

Whilst we've signed a lot of players a lot of them have been the cheap alternative to a player Parry wouldn't go for.

We do NOT have the most expensive team in the league by a long margin.

Surely no-one buys players purely to play for the reserves. They might be put in there to start with but there must be hope, anticipation or expectation that they'll progress  ?

Think Jimmy's take on it "machine-gun policy" sums it up perfectly.

Long term, yes. I'd say the ideal reserve setup brings continuously a pool of players who can be sold for a profit, providing on its way a select few who can actually play for the side regularly. United's for example. We had nothing of that sort four years back. So with a short term objective of improving on what we had a number of youth players were brought in to improve the system. Long term, yes.. some of them were probably expected to progress enough to be sold and we have that to be fair. We might have not found a Gerrard in there but we've got El Zhar, Hobbs, Insua, Hammill, Nemeth, Dalla Valle, Kelly, Darby, San Jose, Gulacsi, Mihaylov and a few others who fall into the 'Might make it at Liverpool or atleast are good enough to be sold for some money' category. We already have made decent money off Carson and Guthrie. I'd say decent progress has been made at the reserve level but a lot of others problems need to be resolved.

I still dont see why that has to be a weapon to slate the manager with. A lot of the 73 mentioned were bought in for the reserve league. Hardly cost us a lot of money and we look to make a profit off the same. Not a bad thing.

I think they will win the Champs league yet again this season .

As for the contract , it means very little these days . Rafa currently runs the show , but one bad season and he will be out I think .

Scottish must be gutted . I reckon he fancied his chances of being the next boss :P

My thoughts exactly. Was pleased when Davey signed his because it was a statement of personal intent after speculation that he was off, but as for Benitez "Tying himself to Anfield until 2014," bollocks. The length of the contract is just a tool to work out the levels of compensation if he screws up :) .

Having listened to Hicks today I'm unsure as to which one is the biggest liar but i think the American edges out the Onion just...... There he is promising the fans the earth, yet again promoting the new ground concept, if anything is to happen it can only happen with new money.....................that club I'm certain is about to be sold

Well I won the league first season on Champ Manager.

Just signed a few wingers and bish-bash-bosh.

But nah, I'm pleased that we've finally got some stability to be honest. :)
