james_clarke Posted August 26, 2009 Report Share Posted August 26, 2009 obviously we need to replace lescott at centre half and alot of people are sayin we need to replace hibbert at right back but i think we desperately need cover for baines at left back. he is the only player capable of playing there (maybe neville too but wouldn't like him there) whereas we have a number of options at right back hibbert,neville,coleman,possible gosling and even jags when fit. i wouldn't mind andrew taylor or julio arca from middlesbrough both good attacking full backs whilst arca can play left mid or centre also and they both wouldnt cost more than 3 million Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It must be more of a priority to replace hibbert to improve our first team, by covering baines we don't improve the team we just become a stronger squad. The way I see it is that we will not sign a right back, we will sign someone else in centre mid (banega?) and neville will be pushed to right back with hibbo as cover. Baines will be covered by distin who himself will be brought in primarily as a centre back to directly replace lescott. We will then need extra cover at centre back (possibly someone who won't expect to go straight into the team?) Anyway I think the team will look something like this for a couple of games once the window is closed: ...........Howard........... Nev...Yobo.....Distin...Baines Pienaar..New mid..Felli..Bily .............Cahill.......... .............Saha............ Subs: Nash, Hibbo, New cb, Rodwell, Osman, Jo, Yak (as he regains fitness) If what was true about felli's fitness pre-season I can see him dropping out for osman for a few games. I do hope you're right about Neville going to full back because for me he is never a holding midfield player. Even with that, though, we still need a better right back but that probably won't happen until next summer. Also, just thought I'd point this out though you may be going off how serious his injury is - there is no Mikel in that line-up! lol For me, when he is fit Arteta *has* to go into centre-mid with a holding player then with Peanuts and Bily on the wings then a combo up-front of either two strikers (pick from Yak, Jo, Saha and Vaughan) or one of those boys with either Cahil, Felli or possibly Arteta if Moyes isn't comfortable with him in the centre. In terms of cover for left back I do agree wholly with the first post. The thing is that there doesn't seem to be anybody at the club right now who can cover there with a half decent left foot; I'm not usually one for this whole symmetry thing that some fans have but it is such a specialist position that I think we need more than we have for there. Certainly, if we can get a more experienced, decent holding midfielder in then Rodwell will have more time and less pressure to come through properly and yeah, sure if we don't get enough cover at CB he can then also provide *part-time* cover for CB as well. Calico Posted August 26, 2009 Report Share Posted August 26, 2009 I think if you can stifle Wigan's midfield then you cut off the service to the pacey attack; I reckon it'll be a snooze-fest with five in midfield to achieve this effect. I'm not personally a fan of Cattermole, reckon he can be a liability especially against the better teams in the Prem. Did Distin not play left back at Man City?
