irishtoffee
Have to ask this question lads. Do you think we are a better team with Carsley in it? In my opinion 100% yes. I really noticed it on saturday when he went off injured, after he went off we looked nervous at the back. I know he isn't the greatest player in the world but we are a far stronger team with Cars sitting in front of the back 4. And i don't believe we have anyone to replace him when he missing, this includes Neville because i know people are going to suggest him. On saturday Lee going off injured cost us 3 points. We didn't look to have problems at the back until then. Neville doesn't have the same positional sence as Carsley, he gives 100% but seems to chase after the ball alot and then gets caught out of position creating gaps infront of the center halfs. Any opinions
Bill
Thats a load of bullshit, what cost us winning on sat was the final ball, the final effort on goal, and some excellent saves. The game should have been out of site by half time, we had 73.% and they had only27% possesion, which is almost 3 times as much, now if you turn that into minutes, its about 32 minutes we had control of the ball, and we where playing well, and they had about 13. and we came off drawing 0-0. It should have been over as a contest, we have to get other people scoring Goals and not relying solely on AJ. Our goals so far Aj 5, cahill 2, Beattie Penalty, arteta Penalty, and a Spurs own goal. Romey 1878
Agreed Licker, we were easily the best team and should have had the game sown up by half time. Carsley going off seemed to offset the balance of the team yes, but that shouldnt really have made as much difference as it did.
Ian
I think we have looked good with Carsely in the team but I dont think thats what lost us two points on saturday, we just didnt kill the game simple as. I'm glad we kept Carsely though, I forgot what an asset he was to the club til he returned to fitness. We have got the players though to come in now hes injured. irishtoffee
sorry lads dont think i explained myself great, i agree the game should have been won before half time and i don't for one second doubt that we weren't the better side but the fact is they got in twice and it isn't a suprise it was when Carsley was off the field. Yes we should have had the game finish by the time Carsley went off but what i meant was if he was on the field i don't think they would have scored their 2 goals. My point was that we are better defending with Cars in front of our center backs. Romey said that it shouldn't have made much difference to us when Carsley went off but it did ( from a defensive aspect).

The team should be able to cope with a player going off.

Romey 1878
Yes it does concern me but we have shown many times we can play without Carsley and be solid at the back
sheedysheedysheedy
I've said many times on here that IMO we struggled in the first half of last season because we didn't have anyone to replace Carsley in that role. Moyes tried putting Cahill in that position but he didn't quite have it and it reduced the freedom he has to get forward. We could do with another strong defensive midfielder to cover the line like Carsley does cos I think we look more open at the back when he isn't playing! Romey 1878
Well I went for Carsley as MOTM against Wigan because he was superb while he was on the field
