Arteta's Injury

dark

Recommended Posts

It's probably better for Mikel that the operation is taking place in Spain. He'll probably know a lot of specialists over there and if he knows who's doing it then it's got to be a bonus. I just hope this Spanish Doc can get him fixed for next season. Does anyone know what he's actually going to do?

And Leighton seems to be looking foreward to a few cracks at goal tomorrow against Brom. Article below.

Leighton Baines is ready to fill the set-piece void left by Mikel Arteta's injury. Arteta is renowned for his abilities from dead ball situations and has scored three times from direct free kicks this term. But after the Spaniard was ruled for the remainder of the season with a ruptured cruciate ligament, the emphasis will now be on Everton's other set-piece specialists.

I wonder who made the decision that the operation should take place in Spain, don't we have good enough specialists here????

I read somewhere, on the OS I think, that we have (i'll try and quote here) "the best specialist in UK, Europe and America." The European one is Spanish, I believe, so it makes sense for Arteta to choose that one, I know I'd feel more comfortable having an operation with people around me speaking my language - I think it would also help in a more speedy recovery .I seem to remember that he went back to Spain for his last op, and I think he feels he can rest and recuperate there well. Good luck to him. I just hope he can get back for pre-season.

Noticed this on BK (the site, not the forum - linked from Newsnow) - I endorse the sentiment:

I have noticed an air of depression amongst the various EFC related web sites I visit. Understandable considering our injury situation, the main issue without question being can we really replace Mikel? We can ask people to play out of position, but can we ask them to run the show with such elegance and grace at the same time looking pretty damn good with not a hair out of place? But cheer up. For those of you out there who remember the 1985 team cast your minds back and rally with the thought of what happened to Adrian Heath mid season and how we took the news that his season was over. By early May we were champions and the team strolled around Goodison Park soaking in the adulation with all the time in the world, not wanting the moment to stop. From nowhere two of the players hoisted Adrian Heath into the air and they carried him passed the Bullens Road paddock. You couldn't have expected that the noise level could possibly have gone louder but it did at that point of time. Let's remain positive. Let's keep the enthusiasm going for a good run in the F.A. cup and live for the moment of not only lifting the cup, but live with the thought that two of the players remember Mikel's contribution to the momentum we have and we see Mikel being carried shoulder high and praises being adorned upon him. With this thought in our minds keep the spirits high, keep the web sites optimistic and let's channel this energy towards the players who surely must respond if they feel it too. Gwladys (27/02/09)

Hmmm....nice story, but a bit of a stretch for me tbh.

Heath was a good player, but I don't think you can compare him with Arteta and I, for one, certainly didn't think our season was over when he got injured (but I don't think our season is over this time either :) ).

Sang "Inchy is back!" as loud as anyone (Charity Shield '85 when he scored from the bench) but I don't think history will put him at the same level of influence as Mikel.

Agree with you Mike - I just like the sentiment expressed - I still think we can do some damage in the FA Cup and chase Villa and Arsenal without Arteta, nice to know I'm not the only optimist in blue.

What odds do we have to win the league outright ?

I'm feeling lucky ;)

Everton Head Physiotherapist, Mick Rathbone, has exclusively revealed that Mikel Arteta’s knee operation has gone very well indeed. The Spanish midfielder went under the knife in Barcelona earlier today (Tuesday) and Rathbone is delighted with the news from the hospital.

Arteta has had his anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed and, as is common practice for Everton, one of the club physios, Matt Connery, travelled to Spain to observe the operation.

It's good that Mikel was smiling coming out of the hospital, that says a lot. His operation seems to be having some good success and he should be back to form soon and ready for the new campaign.

Matt told me that the surgeon is extremely pleased with the procedure and that it couldn't have gone any better, which is great news,' Rathbone told the club's official website. 'Importantly, Mikel himself is also in very good spirits.'

This injury seems to be going from strength to strength, let's hope it carries on in this manner :)

Arteta is currently staying with his parents in San Sebastian but is due back at Finch Farm some time before the end of the campaign for a check up.

For some reason that made me laugh.

It's good to see that he's on the road to recovery, the team just isn't the same without him and with him part of the setup we can push for a Champions League place and over-take Arsenal. Arsenal are looking like a UEFA team now and someone will knock them off the last Champions League place in the next 2-3 years.

It's good to hear the operation was a success and he's getting back into light training (after the doctors said don't do too much it shows that he can do something) I guess its all going well for Mikel now. Good Luck to him!!

I wonder if he's gone to that National Accident Helpline?

Have to disagree with you tbh. They may have looked poor this season but it has been without most of there best players. With Fabregas, Adebayor, Rosiky getting back and the addition of Arshavin they will be a force again. With Arteta back we will be better than we are now, but for Arsenal when they have all those players they will be a hell of a lot better than us, even with Arteta.

Totally agree, that list forgets to metion Walcott! Bloody young side too. Things are great with everton but we need a few more players yet before we can think of champions league.

It's what we already know from Mark's link but in case anyone wants it here is what the official site are saying about Mikel's injury. He is still over in Spain being looked over by the Spanish trainers. Moyes is expecting to see the influential midfielder back on Merseyside sooner rather than later, but Arteta can't yet train extensively following knee surgery.

David Moyes is not expecting good news for Phil either :(

Phil Jagielka was stretchered off during Everton's clash with Manchester City. The defender, a candidate for player of the season, pulled up after stretching for a high ball at Goodison on Saturday. Everton were trailing 2-0 and had made all three substitutions when Jagielka was taken off after 73 minutes.

More to follow.

It's now been confirmed the Jagielka will have a scan on Saturday to determine the damage done to his leg. It seems like the Mikel Arteta sage all over again. If we are without Phil for the Chelsea game then were really knocked down a notch. This could be a big blow to our season :(

While Blues boss David Moyes says it's too early to make predictions over the injury, he admitted he is expecting the worst. "Phil will go and get a scan later and we will look at the results from that," said Moyes. "I can't say at this time that it looks like good news."

In all my years following the blues I have never known such a run of major injuries to star players..................it is truly unbelievable.....................the lads will have to go to the well once more to see this season through.

I feel so sad for Jags, missing the final, missing out on England and almost certainly missing the start of next season and our opening Euro campaign...........................life is shit sometimes

I thought Yobo did alright on Wed against Chelsea while Jags was rested.

Whilst i agree it is a blow i think we have enough in Yobo & Lescott, despite Joeys lack of a run of games..

At least the two will have a good few games together before the final.

Feel really sorry for Jagielka though, playing tremendously well all season but missing out on the biggest game of his career (so far) right at the end. gutting.
