  1. Telegraph Sport today states that an announcement is expected this week on a new 50,000-seat stadium at Walton Hall Park.
  2. Oztoffee, you hit the nail on the head with your comment re where all the income went. I was at Goodison in 1949 when Goodison had the record crowd - over 78,000. Everton used to get crowds over 50,000 regularly. Players were paid a pittance because of the maximum wage, so the money went somewhere but not into facilities.
  3. I understand that he is going to live outside the City and travel in by train. Some of the young lady fans have asked if he gets off at Edge Hill!
  4. Apparently, he suffers from tunnel vision but he does have his good points.
  5. MikeO. You could claim that it stands for Everton Formerly Domingo's.
  6. The problem is, Andorra are a Sunday pub team with only one professional (who plays in the Hungarian third division, or something). Yes, the pitch was terrible but Wales should have won this about 6 - 0.
  7. All Rooney's great games and great goals have come in Premier League games. He hasn't done it on the world stage for England or against the top club sides. When he was appointed England captain he said that he was honoured and was motivated to give his all for the team. The result: he had a very ordinary game against Switzerland. I think that sums his career up. High expectation which never quite delivered. At the moment, I don't think he earns his place in the England team.
  8. Thank goodness for Welbeck, no one else ever looks like scoring. Rooney is not worth his place.
  9. Wilshire is a waste of space, needs to be replaced. I've seen Sunday morning pub teams who finish better than England.
  10. Rubes, very best of luck. You know everyone on here will be rooting for you.

    Jokes thread

I know this is an old one but there may be one or two younger posters who haven't seen it. It is the letter written by an employee to the Personnel Department, explaining his absence. Sir Following the recent gales, I inspected my roof and found some bricks had come loose which needed replacing. I rigged up a beam with a pulley at the top of the house and hoisted up a barrel full of new bricks. After I had finished laying the new bricks I had to dispose of the old bricks. I had lowered the barrel back down to the ground so I hoisted the barrel back up and climbed down to secure the line at the bottom. I climbed back up and filled the barrel with the old bricks. Then I climbed down to the bottom and unfastened the line. The barrel of bricks was heavier than me and as the barrel started down, I was jerked off the ground. I decided to hang on but half-way up I met the barrel coming down and received a severe blow on the shoulder. I then continued to the top banging my head against the beam and trapping my fingers in the pulley. When the barrel hit the ground it burst open at the bottom and all the bricks spilled out. I was now heavier than the barrel so started down at high speed. Half-way down I met the barrel coming up and received severe injuries to my legs. When I hit the ground I landed on the old bricks getting several painful cuts from the sharp edges. At this point I think I lost my presence of mind because I let go of the line and the barrel descended giving me a heavy blow to my head, putting me in hospital. Sir, as soon as I am able to walk, I will send a sick note.
  12. It was like watching a Johnstons Paints Trophy final. England play at walking pace most of the game, always have 11 opposition behind the ball. I think Hodgson considers we play our best football when the back four are passing it backwards and sideways.
  13. It was a choice of watching the football tonight or creosoting the shed. Just read that Lionel Messi isn't playing against Germany so will creosote the shed.
  14. Hate to say it but Liverpool looked useful against Spurs. The only bright light was that Balotelli missed three open goals in the first half. Two free headers inside the six yard box and he headed them both wide. Then the ball came to him just outside the penalty area with the goalkeeper stranded out of his goal and he hit it about 20 yards wide.
  15. According to a Sunday paper one bookie as laid odds of 2-11 on a 'no' vote. Bookies don't often get it wrong, particularly in a two horse race!
  16. The problem with football today is that every transfer rumour involves a foreign player. In most cases, not only can't you spell the name, you can't even pronounce it. Just think, in the old days we only had to struggle with the pronunciation of 'Greenhalgh'!
  17. Yes, MikeO you are right, apologies. I thought this was the 'general' off topic site!
  18. Just got back from hospital where I had a camera whizzing around my innards. Fortunately, it wasn't a box Brownie! (For younger posters ask your Grandad what a box Brownie was)
  19. They say laughter is the best medicine so I watched Man U v MK Dons last night.
  20. Liverpool were marginally the better side in the first half but only had one shot on target. City could have had four or five in the second half. Sterling hasn't changed, he still goes to ground at the slightest contact with a defender. But with Suarez gone they are not going to get as many penalties as last season.
  21. As long as its not Cleverley.
  22. Was out so couldn't watch the game. When I saw the result I thought 'I bet they equalised in injury time'. How right can you be! Gutted.
  23. My mobile phone only makes phone calls. Nice chair Tenaciousj, that would go nicely in my lounge.
