Brief one but a couple more positives today.
Feeding tube that I've had in my stomach for six months because I couldn't eat properly was taken out (eating still a major chore rather than a pleasure but getting better); and the MRI scan I had last week came back clear . Still not out of the woods but on the right track.
Those are big positives Mike. Forward with strength my friend!

Welcome. I live somewhat close to you, out in Harrisonburg where I teach at JMU. I actually just joined the DCToffees (along with my girldfriend) as well, as they just became the DC area official supporters club. Lots of Yanks here on this forum.

Welcome to the forum!
Remarkable upturn in American members, wonder if all the Everton forums are getting it?
Likely so, Tim Howard's twitter feed has gained 500,000 new followers since the world cup, a large percentage of those are probably Americans who are also interested in Tim Howard's efforts beyond the USMNT (i.e., interested in Everton).

Nice!! Welcome.

I don't know if y'all get tired of hearing this, but I'm another bandwagon American fan after watching Tim Howard's performance in the world cup (and Lukaku's heartbreaking goal against us as well). I've been very impressed with Everton's history and passionate fanbase, and I will be following you guys through this upcoming season. I'll be studying abroad in England next spring, and I hope to catch a game at Goodison while I'm there.
Oh, I'm also a new soccer fan, so I'll be learning a whole lot through this site. Everton seems to be the new team of choice around here. I look forward to a great season!
Welcome. I'm another Yank, but have been a fan of the game pretty much all my life, and a fan of Everton since the late 90s or so. In this latter regard, I'm still a newbie here as well.

Brilliant Steve, you've done a grand job on this.
Me and Verreauxi will have to meet up for a shoot out sometime .
Whoa!!! I was logging on fully thinking that MikeO had me beat at the line. Didn't expect a tie. Yes, when I'm in Liverpool we'll do a shoot out.
Many thanks Steve, it was a fun contest that you organized!!

iii of course. Everybody knows that . Next!
Damm, you are un-stump-able. You clearly know your muhwah'~n'ee-ong
-
In the remote Island of Pachingo, in the southwest corner of the Pacific, the locals play a game called "muhwah'~n'ee-ong." Here is the scenario: The fluter, who is part of the home team wrestles the pigbladder from the lackey. But meanwhile on the sidelines, the corner umpire has just noticed that the visiting team has orange head-dresses, when the rules clearly state that during a waxing moon, head-dresses must be white-tipped. The corner umpire is about to blow the conch shell but at that moment the lackey has stuffed the pigbladder in the pen, shutting out all calapcinators from approaching the octogon. How does the senior umpire handle this situation?
i) Dismiss the point-calapcinator, deflate the pigbladder, and start the match anew on the next lunar month.
ii) Fashion a mogwai shed out of Pandan leaves and allow the visiting team to consult their spirit-coaches for a minimum of two days
iii) Restart the match on the brushy hillocks, but allow desicated goats bollocks to be substituted for the pigbladder.
iv) Wait for western colonization, assimilation, and the arrival of television, Doritos, and post-modern ennui.

Finally, after 12 years, I get to see Mastodon tonight. SO EXCITED!
Missed this post but just want to say that I would love to see Mastodon. Massive sound from those Atlanta boys.

All these teams I am fairly agnostic about. I am leaning toward rooting for the Dutch in the 3rd place game (though I dislike Robben), and slightly leaning toward Argentina in the championship. I've become much more of a fan of Mascherano on Argentina, what a performance last week.

All my degrees are in Anthropology, but mostly focusing on the biological side of anthropology. Hence I teach courses on things like "human evolution" "anthropological genetics" "evolutionary psychology" "primate behavioral ecology" and other stuff having to do with the biology of humans and nonhuman primates.
My primary research is studying lemur behavior, genetics, and conservation biology. Sifaka, pictured on my arm and my avatar photo, are the creatures that I study.
Anyways, I appreciate the follow up comments. I just didn't want to come off as one of those pretentious academic types (perhaps I still do ).
Now back to the World cup!

show off :shaking fist:
Just realized what you meant by this. I wasn't trying to flaunt my degrees, just trying to explain my tattoos. Advanced degrees have only narrowed me to a small small small corner in the universe of knowledge--I know a ton about a subject that 15 people care about. I wasn't trying to sound "credentialed"...sorry about that.

Haha get back in ya box fella. I suppose you wanted Rooney out and b oh dunc for that matter then. Go back to reading ya bible will ya.
Okay, that's funny.

Don't really want someone who can't control his emotions on the field. Ridiculous conduct by that idiot during the WC.

What are you waiting for? Go get inked!
-
I've always wanted to get one, but never found an idea that stuck around. That was until I learnt the meaning of Heitingas tattoos and I really like the sentiment, so I've "created" something similar. Im waiting another year (alraedy waited 1) to see if I still feel the same, but so far I've just got more and more excited about it!
If you have tattoos that mark milestones and/or are personal then once you arrive at a design you love, it doesn't matter if tattoos are trendy or if everyone has one. If you look at your tattoos and they make you smile everyday, then they are yours forever.
I have a tattoo for every degree that I have (geeky, nerdy, yes, but it was always my plan). I have a DNA molecule that wraps around my biceps (marking my undergrad degree), and I have a cotton-top tamarin on my forearm marking my master's degree, and I have a sifaka (lemur) on the other forearm that marks the completion of my Ph.D. (this latter tattoo was actually bought as a gift for me by my advisor). I love them!!

"Vacation bible school" is some thing I see on placards in my parts of the US these summers. That always sounded like an oxymoron to me.

Welcome to the site. I tend to follow all teams Chicago (and Everton).

Welcome to the site!

Welcome to the site! I've got a bunch of friends that live in MPLS...great city but the cold...oh the cold (and this is from someone who grew up in Chicago, but is now cold-soft from living in Virginia).

Welcome. I'm a yank too, currently living in Virginia. There's a good group here.

Cannavaro on ITV saying Germany should have held back last night after they'd gone five up so as not to humiliate Brazil; and if he'd have been captain in that position he'd have done so.
At this level it is always up to the losing team to adjust their strategy, never for the winning team to hold back. Not sure what Cannavaro is trying to do here.

Don't really understand the description of Ruby Red...perhaps after about 9 pints it will look that way under certain bar lights.
Beer prices vary quite a bit by city/region here in the US, as you might imagine. In big cities, NYC, Washington, you'll probably pay anywhere from 5-7 dollars per pint. But you get out to rural regions, like where I live, and you can pay 3-5, maybe less depending on the brand. There was a bar in my town here where you could get a pint for 0.75 dollars (it was cheap swill--"Natural Light").
