I agree, you can protect players from burning out by restricting training to tactics and team meetings, I would have thought that most players would rather play twice a week and cut the work down in training. But what you can’t control is injuries to key personnel and the niggles that need a rest to shake off, but otherwise play your best team.

I agree keepers can’t hide mistakes they are magnified, yet some keepers do try to hide by staying on their line and never trying deal with crosses coming in, Pickford can never be accused of shirking his duty towards his defenders he’s not scared to put his head on the block and try to take the pressure of them, he needs to know when he can’t make it and stay instead of trying to win everything that comes into his area. I’m not going to to tell you he’s the best keeper in the league but nor is he the worst I’d put him between 4th and 6th which I find more than acceptable for where we are as a team at present, in a couple of years hopefully we are going to be looking for a keeper who is good enough for a team who are 3rd to 1st, and if he can’t raise his standing to those demands he will be sold or sat on the bench as No2.

It’s a mixture of both of those things with a lot more added to the mix as to why we are in the position we find ourselves, let’s try not to forget it’s a team game after all. Haf mate I don’t have a problem with criticism of any player, during the game I posted my criticism of his mistake as did you and many others, shouldn’t it be we’ve had our say move on, but with Pickford there seems to be this focused obsession to Lynch him for the most trivial things that rumble on for days after the event, I’m going to defend him especially when people come out with comments that he’s no better than a pub player to say things like that can only mean two things and nothing in between, either you hate him with vengeance or you haven’t got a fucking clue.

The players we need even if they are just good squad players, with just 4 injuries our squad in real terms is at breaking point.

We need to start looking for the positives in some of our games instead of always looking for the negatives, Pickford hasn’t cost us a single point so far and when or if he starts to we have a very good replacement in Olsen. It could be a whole lot worse I wonder if Sheffield United or WBA would be so critical over a mistake that didn’t have any impact what so ever on the result if they were in our position right now. If we were to look at the one mistake that did cost us a goal it was the Tom Davies penalty, that that we haven’t dwelled on that and dissected it till our eyes were bleeding I find refreshing and that’s how it should be when you’ve won the game and that player has contributed to that win, why dwell on the negatives, anyone would think we are at our happiest when we’ve got someone or something to moan about, just remember the easiest thing to do is to criticise for the sake of criticism, so I’d like to thank every player for another hard fought performance and most importantly another 3 points, even Tom Davies and Jordan Pickford.

Let’s just keep playing like we are thinking only of the next game and see where that takes us, who knows we could be pleasantly surprised by the end of the season.

Not one of his better performances but that was possibly more too do with Arsenals tactics of getting everyone behind the ball for long periods of the game.

Went for Mina defensively he had as good a game as anyone, and the goal to win the game was the icing on the cake.
