  1. I understand everyone's affinity towards Unsworth and wanting him to do well. I do too! I remember watching Unsworth every week for years and he obviously loves the club. However, managing a team at Under 23 level is incomparable to managing a Premier League team. There is no pressure, and playing 100s of games in the Premier League counts for nothing as a manager. Managing and playing are 2 different things. Playing with two wingers away at Leicester with a struggling defence is naive, and the proof was not just in the result, but the performance. Again, I dont want to slag him off because I wouldn't expect him to nail this opportunity as he has no experience. He should be trying his best to get a job in the lower divisions. I don't think he has any right to walk in to a top job yet.
  2. I disagree. Beni being a positive, he looks like he could be a player but he isn't going to be consistently performing at high levels yet. Adding Kevin Mirallas and Aaron Lennon to your team either side of DCL, for me, stinks of a relegation front line. He dragged them off at half time too. The game against Watford was a freak game, penalties missed/given and although I wasn't at the game, I hear the atmosphere in the last half hour made it impossible for those players to not be fired up. I don't think this was anything that Unsworth influenced. Vlasic not playing is scandulous. Sigurdsson on his own up front is laughable and I think I'm right in saying that Sigurdsson has played maybe 3 different positions in his last two games. Against Watford, purely to accommodate Rooney, who shouldnt be starting games for us. There has been more negatives than positives from Unsworth in his 4 games in charge but I dont want this to be about just slating Unsworth - he's been put in a position he can't say no to, and we have no idea how he would cope with what is a very tough job right now. He needs to go and prove himself elsewhere before we know anything about him as a manager. He has zero experience - zero!!!
  3. Although I am not a fan of Big Sam for any long term appointment at Everton, he's better than Unsworth. We can't afford to have someone learning on the job. There is a chance that Unsworth takes us down. Ive not seen anything in 4 games to suggest otherwise and effort doesn't count by the way! Allardyce would 100% keep us up based on his track record and if our main targets are saying that they aren't considering anything until the end of the season then it isn't a bad appointment. Leaving Unsworth in charge, just in case he turns out to be great, is a huge risk and one that none of us would take if it was our millions invested in the club. What a huge error it would be if we left Unsworth in charge and we did go down......Hindsight is easy but Big Sam is looking like the best available right now in order to maintain our top flight status and go again next year. The January transfer window is relevant but what are the other options? Give it to Unsworth to spend? Anyway, I thought that was Walsh's job??? What is it that he does again???
  4. Unsworth needs to manage in the lower league to prove that he has a future in management. We cannot experiment certainly not now, or at any time. Caretaker managers never work in the Premier League. He has to do the hard yards and earn the right to be Everton Manager. I haven't seen much in the last few games but it's impossible to really judge. However, I would never have picked any of those sides, or made the same subs.
  5. Big Sam is where we are right now. Our squad is dreadful. First sign of staying up for a team is to get the defence right. Unsworth tried to throw two wingers in away at Leicester and got stuffed. People who say "he had to try something" or "he was bold". Those managers take you down. It's no good being bold and aggressive if you get stuffed and that's what we did. Unsworth has been beaten by Chelsea's kids and smashed by leicester. We still wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now, and that was his attacking team! Big Sam or Dyche would get the back sorted first and that's what we need. It's not a lack of ambition, it's a Billionaire and a Multi Millionaire trying to protect their money. and stay in the league. We'd do the same if it was our money........We wouldnt be gambling on some unknown from overseas. '
  6. Based on his first two games, we can see that he is trying to prove a point and for me that's not what we need right now. It's the tried and failed method picking the likes of Lennon, rather than picking the best players. He has left better players on the bench the last few games. What we need is someone to get the best out of our best players. Not someone who bins them off (Sigurdsson and Schneiderlin 2 perfect examples), and then replaces them with players who aren't good enough. I think we all agree that that starting eleven against Leicester was a relegation team (both on the pitch and on paper) and if that is who he is choosing to get him the job then he is deluded. Kenny shouldn't be playing - Holgate, whatever you think of him, is our most dependable right back now, Schneiderlin has to play, in front of any of the midfield, as does Sigurdsson, Vlasic and probably Lookman. However, looks like he's unearthed a potential gem in Baningame so I'll give him that. He's like a good version of Gueye!
  7. I get that but he has had a good start. Name me a manager with a better record who we could attract? Or is available? Dyche would argue with you that he is punching way above his weight, even establishing them (despite their relegation) as a Premier League side. It's very competitive for those lower clubs and maybe this is the season he kicks them on further, who knows. I'm just saying there may be room for improvement with Dyche as he has plenty of years ahead of him. There's a ton of managers out there who crave the opportunity to manage a big club with some cash. We just about fall into that category and I cant think of anyone else of Dyche's stature who would deserve it more. Moyes got a chance all those years ago and was successful given his resources, Jesus, I'd kill for his team of 2008 - 2009 right now! Unless there's someone Ive missed from a lower level club then I'm struggling to see who we get. For me, Unsworth could take us down, Dyche wouldn't and we have to make sure of that........
  8. I think we need to have a realisation check of where we are at. We ain't going to get a top European manager who has won lots of trophies. The closets to that would be Rafa Benitez. Kenwright would never go for him and I doubt Rafa would take it now. I think we have had our chance with him previously and he got ignored. I dont think Brendan Rodgers is being considered either. I know Im in the minority but Dyche is probably the best we can get. He has something to prove and he has a solid record with zero cash. He may well be able to adapt with money and get his teams playing a different style, who knows. One thing is certain though is we would improve defensively and he'd get a better tune out of them than what we have now and that's what we need. Marco Silva gets all these shouts but he has done no better than Dyche. If it was Mark Silver v Seano Dichio, it would be the other way round and we'd all be craving the foreigner. I just fear the Steve Walsh role will also deter possible suitors. Dyche wouldnt want him there even. Steve Walsh is offering nothing for me in his position and would deter a top manager anyhow from coming. I dont think the model works full stop, and I also think it hinders our search for a new manager. Tuchel and Ancelotti would never come so if anyone can provide a realistic alternative with a better record than Dyche.........
  9. This lad is clearly not ready to start regularly for a top flight team. It's really not his fault. He could have a decent future in front of him but he's now playing in a pressure filled environment and he shouldn't be. We should have bought a good right back in the summer and Kenny should be out on loan. It's just another example of our dreadful recruitment this summer.
  10. This isn't appealing to anybody at the moment. Our starting eleven against Leicester was a relegation team. Its up there with Sunderlands team last year. DCL, Mirallas and Lennon upfront??? Rooney in behind? Jonjo Kenny, Jagielka, Williams and Baines is a back four which takes you down make no mistake. It's not like I'm missing out the midfield just because they're outstanding either. Gueye will do a job as will Davies but that's it. We brought on Oumar Niasse to get us a goal. He was predominantly a sub last tear - for Hull City. We also brought on a guy for his first Premier League appearance. Sigurdsson for me is a good player but Unsworth will continue to pick Rooney ahead of him for thoughts just known to himself right now. But as a squad, that's exactly where we are right now. We need a manager who can keep us up this year that's it. Unless Moshiri promises huge investment again in January - and this is irrelevant if we can't get the players, I struggle to see how on earth we attract Tuchel or alike. I can never see Moshiri going for the likes of Allardyce or even Dyche, but it looks liker they're the best we can get. If they don't want Dyche long term then we are not going to pay for him. What a depressing situation...........
  11. This is clearly not Unsworth's time yet. He has zero experience at any top flight level and we are not in a position to nurture a Manager. Unsworth at the very least needs to work as a Number 2 to a Top Manager in the Premier League or manage elsewhere before becoming our Manager.. Under 23 football is nowhere near Premier League. Yes, we do have a frighteningly poor squad at the moment considering the investment but I don't think anyone would have picked his team or his subs for that matter today. I get the sentiment, but that doesn't win you football matches. We have a "management team" apparently of David Unsworth with side kicks of John Ebbrell, Duncan Ferguson and Joe Royle. In reality, it's a load of ex players with zero recent experience of being anywhere near top flight football. With Wayne Rooney coming back in the summer and now starting all the games, it's looking like jobs for the boys. Kenwright needs to stop thinking with his heart (you do get the impression that it's him pushing for this to be successful) and we need to get a manager in who can get the best out of the squad with zero affinity to any players. This includes Under 23s (Baningame aside who looks like he should be starting every week) and players from yester year.
  12. Im just glad we didnt buy Sissoko, Lucas Perez, Lamina Kone, Kalinic, MBaye Niang, do you want me to carry on???????????
  13. https://www.theblueroomefc.com/2017/03/steve-walsh-exclusive-everton-director-football-discusses-summer-move-ronald-koeman-player-recruitment/ Read this, it is from the horses mouth on what his involvement and his position is. According to that, he has to shoulder some of the responsibility. His whole background is scouting. That's what he was brought onto do. He has done it, but extremely badly. We can only go on what we see with our own eyes. Davy Klassen and Sandro look miles away from being Premier League footballers. Sigurdsson looks a shadow of his former self and Michael Keane looks like a donkey. It's basics with these guys..........
  14. At the end of the day, Steve Walsh's role is player recruitment (please correct me if I'm wrong!) and our recruitment has been dreadful. He is accountable. Koeman was sacked because of his tactical ineptitude, his inability to play players in their correct positions and his total lack of man management. Yes, if he was responsible for scouting/having the final say on transfers then add this into. However, Steve Walsh's job description is player recruitment. This is our biggest failure right now. Whoever we bring in to manage has the same shite. It is likely though that we will get a better tune out of them but many, as tonight, wont even feature.
  15. I think whoever gets it, we need to be in a position to attract players. What was noticeable tonight is we are in desperate need of quality players. Unsworth will get them organised and the performance second half was encouraging. However, apart from Pickford, none of this team would get in any of Moyes' late sides (Jags and Baines are now 10 yrs older!) and that's worrying considering the investment. We need centre halves, a left back, a right back (Kenny isnt ready yet), a winger, two forwards, and possibly a number 10 (how crazy is that!) unless Gylfi improves dramatically. That is if we want to challenge the top 6. It looks like we've absolutely spunked that money and Moshiri is now going to learn that he needs to do it again, whoever gets brought in. My concern about Unsworth is that he may not be able to attract the best players and he is "too English" in his methods and ideas on football. I hope I'm wrong and I think we need some simplicity in our football right now which is what we'll get right now in our upcoming games. However, the way football is coached on these shores is very different to abroad and that shows in International football and what managers are managing our best sides at the moment. If we want to challenge the top 6 which the board keep telling us, then we have to go and get a top 6 manager. Unsworth may become a top 6 manager one day, lets hope he does. At this moment in time though, he isn't, and that's why for me Tuchel springs out. He is a manager with something to prove and who has pedigree and can attract talent. Dont get me started on Steve Walsh as that's another thread but I'd have got rid of him too. We need to rebuild again and lets hope they get this appointment right.
  16. Watch the game again on Saturday (if you can put yourself through it!) and watch how many times Rooney gave the ball away when it was an easy pass. I'm not buying the "difficult pass" thing. Seriously, Rooney was dropping deep and still giving simple balls away, I was screaming at the TV. Im not getting on to Gana, completely different things expected of him. However, Rooney is supposed to be the one providing the quality and any number 10, centre forward, whatever you want to call him, who has a pass completion rate of 67% in the PL is poor. He'd have been dragged off at any of the top clubs in the league. Yes, he can provide a goal and he's better than what we've got so he has to play. But as I said, he wouldn't get into any of the Top 6 sides whilst continuously giving the ball away. That's where we're trying be right??????????
  17. Yes good points. Pickford would be worth 50 million already, Keane more too. That compensates for the 75 million quid we got for Lukaku. Today he's already worth about 120 million. Feel like we could have got more for that sale looking back. I honestly believe though that we are one top class centre forward and centre half away from a real challenge and that's what is frustrating.
  18. I really think its about time Barkley came out and spoke to the press. He chose to stay quiet when the contract stand off was going on which was his choice and we all drew our own conclusions as to why he wanted to leave. After this debacle, we could all do with knowing the truth. Surely he must be getting some stick when he's out and about? Just come out and give us your reasons as to whats happened and we can all move on. My guess is Koeman doesn't fancy him and was always going to bring in the likes of Rooney and Sigurdsson to "compete" with him, but more than likely replace him. We all need big squads hence the new contract. on the table for him I agree with Koeman. Barkley has produced very sporadically (3 or 4 games a season for me) and Koeman let him be known that he was going to bring in players to compete for his position and Barkley may have spat his dummy out. Anyhow, it's all speculation and Ross could end it all with one interview..............
  19. I hope you're right, and Im probably still fuming and over exaggerating after a very disappointing end to the window. Koeman saying in his press conferences that we were after two more players, a striker and a left centre half, was positive to hear but has left us all feeling a bit robbed. I get why he did that, I like the way he uses the press to influence the board. I hope he can mould Rooney, Sigurdsson, Sandro and DCL into an attacking force and it may be a blessing in disguise if DCL continues his run of form. If he can add goals to his game we could have a top centre foward.
  20. I understand the "project" thing but history tells you that apart from Man Utd in the 90s, the thought of all these players coming through and becoming a team doesn't really exist. Football is, unfortunately, going away from this model. Teams are happy with producing 1 or 2 youngsters a year (Davies, Holgate last year. DCL this year) but if we are going to break into the Top 4 we need top quality additions to the first team. Id rather he spent more time on finding us a centre forward for us now than giving David Unsworth a load of talent that may or may not provide us with a couple of players with no experience every couple of years.
  21. Yes I agree. However, I would have expected him to find a centre forward for the first team.
  22. I understand it is difficult to buy the players you want and much more goes on behind the scenes in transfers than what we imagine, but you're right, other strikers did leave their clubs and we didn't sign them. We have a lot going against us, no champions league and we aren't based in London but in order to counter these obstacles, you have to splash the cash and sell the dream. We havent done that. Here's hoping Atletico Madrid sign Costa tomorrow and we get him on loan..................
  23. To have sold Lukaku and not bought a striker in is crazy. We needed a striker in before Lukaku got sold. Yes we've got some bodies in and no doubt the majority will prove to be good additions but you need to score goals. If anything, after this window, I actually believe we are further away from the Top 6. Arsenal haven't had a good window but they've still added Lacazette and kept hold of their best players. Im struggling to see Steve Walsh's worth in this set up. His role is to scout players??? When you look at all the signings, Schneiderlin was a Koeman buy, and you could say he had a major influence in Klaasen being signed. Gueye was on Leicester's radar prior to them selling kante so he more or less came with him. Keane and Pickford were obvious signings and I'm sure Walsh didn't do much scouting with regards to Wayne Rooney. So really, he's signed Lookman and Sandro in 12 months??? I'm just glad Sissoko, Perez and Lamina Kone didn't sign. I don't see how we are gaining any edge on our competitors with this so called role. Id rather have Koeman choosing the players
  24. In my opinion, he will be sold now. Koeman has made his mind up and has targets in place. We all have wanted him to do well as he is a blue, local lad and come through the ranks. However, the reality is, that if we had bought him for 30 million from a Spanish team and he was Spanish, we would be slagging the lad off and telling Koeman to get rid. His performances don't justify the amount of debates he starts and I think for everyone concerned, it would be better if he was moved on. There are a lot better players out there in his position. We still don't really know his position. What top drawer player out there has so many debates about what his best position is??? How is playing deep, number 10, out on the right, got anything to do with dwelling on the ball for too long, giving the ball away when good opportunities present themselves (consistently)??? Stats may tell us he creates chances, etc but does this include corners? free kicks? crosses to Rom (who probably boosts his assists up by the way due to his above average finishing skills)?. Stats also tell us that Idrissa Gueye is better than Kante but that certainly isn't true. For me, Barkley's best attributes are his ability to drive past people due to his strength and speed, and probably his ability to dig with two feet, which we never see!!! He does neither of these things. I'd have Sigurdsson all day before Barkley. Even if he was having a bad game, he always has a goal or quality set piece delivery in him. Barkley will provide a few good moments in a 6-3 win against Bournemouth and the local press give him Man of the Match. When he first came on the scene, he provided decisive moments with a free kick (I think against Swansea?), a goal against Newcastle, a goal against Man City, all at crucial times in a game which is what good players are judged on. In reality, he hasn't contributed to any points with key assists or goals (that I can remember) in the past two seasons and that is diabolical considering his position in the team. The line of "what if he goes elsewhere and becomes the player we thought he was going to be" doesn't wash with me. That's a huge if. He wouldn't get in any of the teams above us and that's what we should be judging players on now in order to make the next step. Lets get the money and trust Koeman and Walsh with it. It will also finish the endless discussions about the conundrum of Ross Barkley, which I myself contribute to, but am now sick of................
  25. A mentor??? Really? He's played 150 premier league games. If Ross was a foreigner there would be a tenth of the posts on this. Yes everyone wants him to do well - he has a decent touch, two feet and his obvious physical attributes but I struggle to understand how fans think that if dimitri payet or david silva come and play with him he is suddenly going to have this eye for a killer pass. He doesn't have it, he has never had this. He is never a creator of chances and he will never be. He does not have the quickness of thought of any of the players we want him to be. It is not even close. The guy is a shoe in to give the ball away when we simply need a 10 yard through pass in the dying minutes to create a chance. Am I watching a different game? It isn't confidence, it isn't fans getting on his back, it is simply talent. Yes, he has some talent - he's good on instinct, but you can never teach the football brains of this world. Ever seen a playmaker suddenly become good because of a mentor??????
