Well, as a human, all thoughts to Gomes. Awful injury. Class player. Hope to see him make a full recovery.
As an Evertonian, shit just keeps sticking to us. We again shoot ourselves in the foot with that woeful pass that lead to the goal. Shit just keeps happening and it's too frustrating.
As for VAR, I'm not a fan. Never have been and for me it's getting more inconsistent as the weeks go on. It's getting worse rather than better.
Stuck for words tbh. Feel quite emotional for some reason. Life of an Evertonian eh.

Very tough day. On the whole I thought the shape was a lot better, bar the chance we handed to them on the plate they did absolutely nothing. We just lacked quality time and time again. Our decision making and execution were both terrible for 95% of the game.
None of that matters though really... I wish Gomes all the best and I hope to see him wear the shirt again.

Devastating draw all around. Might as well be a loss.

The penalty was shocking but it's the way we responded to it that is worse, our heads went down and we looked like a team of kids that had just been told off. The Delph substitute was a mistake, I can see what Silva was trying to do, but it just slowed everything down and we kind of lost our shape. We should be beating teams like Brighton but instead we've conceded three goals to a team that struggle to score.

There's a lot wrong about how this match played out. I thought the VAR decision was very harsh. The ball was going out no matter way Keane did or (probably) didn't do. So that was a really bad and unfortunate decision. The fatal part, for me, is the attitude and lack of confidence that followed. Mostly in that our boys don't have it.
I know I'm a dumb American on this stuff but when I played American football the teams I was lucky enough to play on always took pride in being mentally tough in the last 1/4 of the game. But that doesn't come easy--it means a ton of conditioning and hard work under pressure. In practice and training, we fucking ran till we all puked. But the payoff was knowing that when we got a lead late we could see it out.
And that's what's missing here. The players don't believe they deserve to win because they haven't earned it in training. I bet the number of times Sir Alex teams lost after leading in the 75th minute can be counted on one hand. Our boys, a lot of which are really good at football, just don't have the confidence necessary to see it out. And not to belabor the point, but that comes on the training ground. You have to earn the confidence. And I don't think they've even been asked to earn it. But when you've puked, thought you were going to die, run a thousand extra sprints that you thought were all your last sprint; that's when you earn the confidence to finish out a match like today's.
A lot went against us today, but those points were out there for us. We just haven't earned them.

It's just nonsense. It had no material effect on the game, it wasn't intentional, it wasn't dangerous. It was simply contact between two people that just happened to be in the box.
It's these type of things that ruin VAR. They see contact and because of that it must be a foul.

It's never a foul. It's accidental contact, both eyes on the ball. If that's a penalty then all accidental contact is a foul.
    Thats a disgrace.

I think a lot of our players could be accused of that.

I actually have a big fear that all of them (apart from Schneiderlin) will come back in. If he does that he's an idiot. I don't care who we're playing, what tactics they employ, you do not slow the play down to the degree we would be with bringing them back in.
I could just about cope with Sigurdsson coming in, because that's just one player that's slow. The team could probably cope with that too. But then what do you do with Iwobi? He might have frustrated in that role a but he got us moving forward with pace every time he got the ball and that's invaluable whoever you're playing. You could move him to the left but then what do you with Bernard? You could move him to the right but then you break up the Digne/Bernard bromance that looks brilliant and you lose something from Digne too. And if you do move him to the right what message does that send to Walcott? He's not the most highly rated player here but he was immense last weekend and has more than earned his starting spot. Also, what message does it send to Davies if he's plonked back on the bench for the slow, nothingness of Delph? I'm not Davies' biggest fan but he showed that forward motion is possible while keeping it simple rather than playing like billy big bollocks and fucking it up like the fraud that is Fabian Delph. No, Davies has has to wait and wait for his opportunity and he's taken it. Same goes for Sidibe in that respect. Coleman may be our captain but he was an idiot, couldn't play because of it, and his replacement had a great game. He got caught out of position a few times, like Coleman does regularly every game, but the difference was he had it in him to recover every single time. Oh and he can cross the ball.
I know you like lots of words, Elston, so there you go, but no really did cover it all.
