No!!! Arteta was easily our best midfielder at Bolton but thats not saying much!!! Its not his fault we seem intent on hoofing the ball over his head all the time, and who would you drop him for anyway?

I wasnt trying to imply that Nugent and McSheffery were similar in style, (McSeffery is more like James Mcfadden but not as good) I just meant that he was a similar standard ie a decent championship player who couldnt do it in the Prem. As for the season being over I was implying that we have got absolutely no chance what so ever of finishing in a European place and equally I dont think we will go down therefore we have nothing to play for apart from maybe the FA Cup I agree that we will have to shop in the championship but I would prefer to see us buy 1 quality player in the summer than 4 or 5 run of the mill players in Jan. I know we have only played 8 games(may as well call it 9 because we will get humped good and proper by Man U this weekend) but the side look so poor at the moment that unless there is a monumental turn around immediately the season realisticly is over. I have no doubt that the team will improve as the seson goes on and we might even be a decent side again after Xmas but by then its too late

Mcsheffrey is a decent Championship standard player about as good as Nugent Stephen Hunt is average Prem standard who might make the bench Dont know Buazsaky Derbyshire isnt as godd as Vaughn and no better than Anichebe never heard of Bradlet Orr so couldnt comment I dont think there is any point signing players that wont improve the squad, we have enough numbers in the squad now especially as the season is effectively over, with the possible exception of an FA Cup run. I dont think were bad enough to go down and I know were not good enough to get into Europe so we may as well use whats left of a long season to consolidate . I would rather we made one or two good signings next summer and give the young lads a chance for now

Couldnt agree more, Lennon couldnt cross a cheque and is always running down blind alleys. I dont think he is as good as what we already have and is certainly not better so would be a waste of time

Can somebody please put an end to this ridiculously depressing thread. Everybody keeps banging on about all these world class players that we should sign once the money men move in. Its time to wake up and smell the coffee THERE IS NO MONEY!!!! A more realistic thread would be if people started mentioning championship players or unheard of foreigners that nobody else in the Premiership wants or as heard of that way we may stand a chance of getting them

I would love Moutinho but cant see us making any significant signings until we have new owners. But I cant see what anyone sees in Downing he is an average Prem player at best and I cant see how he would be an improvement on Mikel or Stevie P so would be a waste of money IMO and as we are skint I would rather see us hire more catering staff in the Park End!!

We are probably intersted in bringing in Kaka , Ronaldo, van der vaart and countless others but Lee Trundle and Nugent are more likely!!

I think most people realised that Carlsey was invaluble to the sign years ago. It certainly is not a surprise that we are suddenly shipping in goals now that he has gone you only have to look back at the season he missed through injury when we were out of the champions league, uefa and carling cups all at the first hurrdle and struggling badly in the league, sound familiar?? Cars has never been " one of our weker players " its just because his role wasnt glamarous and so people never appreciated him

I think we should sign Tranmerres coach driver because he knows his way to all the grounds in the Championship, and thats where we will be going if the present form continues much longer

I as quite surprised to read the debate about Yakubu and Big Vic I think the Yak had a good game, I think they all did. I agree Vic was dissapointing when he came on but I dont agree that it was throgh lack of effort I just think that the game was begining to fizzle out by the time he got on and we didnt really create any chances for him I think it was right to give him a go , after all it has certainly worked in the past ! Was the timing right ? who knows? but I would not have taken the Yak off what would be the sense in taking off your most potent striker when you are desperate for a goal? Even if you think he hadnt been in the game he has proven before that he can score a goal out of nothng and turn a game. The truth of the matter is we were knocked out because the damage was already done from a poor performance in Italy. Yes we were unlucky but hey isnt that Everton all over!

Couldnt agree more , I was at the game and thought Yak had stormer and never stopped runing all night, ok it didnt come off for him in terms of scoring but that was more to do with their keeper. I have also watched it all again on telly and I cant for the life of me see what he is talking about!
