  1. i really don't see why he would though. he's got modric, bale and kranjcar that all play on the left and i can't really see him getting rid of any of them. at first i really wanted pienaar to stay, but now i'm pretty indifferent as to what he does. as long as we get a good enough fee from a foreign club i'm perfectly fine with him leaving.
  2. villareal! at one point he was rumored to be on his way to real madrid though. he didn't really get much playing time at villareal and even when he went on loan for the second half of his first season he didn't play a single game. he always seems to play better with the national team, probably something about familiar surroundings.
  3. i agree that we don't need a sugardaddy to succeed. i actually like the way arsenal are run, with lots of different parties investing and the board making the decisions. i also agree that we don't need to make mega signings every summer but hopefully a couple times in the champions league will see us have a money structure closer to that of arsenal: able to increase our wage cap and able to buy without having to sell each summer.
  4. i would agree. the one big signing they did make, arshavin (also they're record signing), did a ton to improve their team. i feel like they gamble too much on young players, bringing them in and hoping they'll be able to cope with the premier league. if they bought some (not necessarily a lot) of established talent then they would win the title, no doubt about it in my mind. having said that, i hope that established talent isn't jags!
  5. donovan or ben arfa? surely mls would let him go for somewhere in the 8-10 mil bracket. it would definitely have to beat the previous record for an american ($10 mil for jozy altidore). 8 million pounds beats that by about 2+ million us$
  6. if they really are interested and would match the £15m asking price then i'd sell him to inter now. it would be much better than having him leaving for free in january and as previously mentioned he would do any harm to us playing in italy. plus we could easily reinvest the money in someone like donovan or ben arfa, as well as have some left over to get a young defender.
  7. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=809029&sec=europe&root=europe&cc=5739 ohh and my bad, it's besiktas who are in the process of signing guti, not galatasaray
  8. guti moved (or is in the process of moving) to galatasary, didn't he? i'd be surprised if both gago and van der vaart were both still there at the end of the transfer window. gladly take either of them over diarra
  9. £16mil would make him their record signing. i find it kind of funny that wenger is more stingy when it comes to money than we are
  10. wording makes it seem like he's available on a free? if he's being "offered" to newcastle then they really must not rate him at real
  11. i think the best solution is for one of us to start the next facebook/myspace/youtube/google, make billions and then massively invest in everton! in all seriousness though, i cannot understand why we don't have investors queuing up around the corner to invest in everton. if any of them were to look at our track record over the last few years then it should seriously be a no brainer to invest in everton. yet they go and invest in sides like man city, west ham and birmingham city. i also cannont honestly understand how portsmouth had 3 (or was it 2?) owner changes over the past season. i mean seriously, who in their right mind would want to own portsmouth?
  12. will i be able to buy the new kit anywhere in london? i'm currently in paris but i'm going to london for a few days at the end of the month and i'm traveling up to norwich for the preseason game. if anyone knows if there's a place i can find the kit in london then that would be awesome. otherwise i'll probably just have to order it from the website, which seems to be reasonably priced. last time i got a kit top i got it from lillywhites in london and it cost me around $90US. it looks like if i order it off the website without any prem league patches or squad numbers/names on the back then it's only $67US, including shipping, which is about £43. so if i can find it anywhere in london for cheaper than that, then i would definitely get it and hopefully i could get a name/number on the back. please advise
  13. he burned every bridge he had at this club and i wouldn't be surprised if he comes out and admits how huge of a mistake he's made come january or so, when he'll already in a relegation battle with a club like newcastle or west ham. not to mention, he won't be playing in the center of midfield, like he believes he so rightfully deserves. who does this kid think he is? i hope that the money he gets from his signing fee and wages at his new club keeps him happy when he realizes the biggest mistake of his career was leaving everton the way he did.

  15. he's still be around finch farm recently though.... i think it's just a big mess being stirred up by the papers. picture of dan with that kid abdullayev while he was passing his medical: http://followeverton.com/2010/07/01/rumour-abdullayev-had-everton-medical/
  16. i think all this talk is just a bunch of crap created by the papers. there's an article written on july 1st about that kid abdullayev passing a medical with us where it shows araz in everton shorts with the physio and another picture of the kid with dan, who's in full training gear. so dan is obviously still around finch farm doing his rehab work. it would be silly for dan to walk away from us right now since he can't play for at least another three months. if he were to try and find another club he'd be out of proper rehab unless he paid for it out of his own pocket. and besides, any new club he would sign for wouldn't exactly be keen on signing him up only to have to pay him to sit on the physio's table for the next few months. you can find the picture here: http://followeverton.com/2010/07/01/rumour-abdullayev-had-everton-medical/
  17. ya but a lot of the casual fans in america who have become interested because of the world cup would go crazy about donovan being linked with the richest club in the world, taking that to mean they're actually a good team instead of what city really are
  18. not that i'm complaining, but our transfer activity this summer so far has been astonishing compared to the last few. three (almost 4 if you count gueye) completed transfers before the end of june?? and they're not just ones for the future, they seem like ones that will be playing for the first team at some point in the upcoming season. if someone had told me that before the window opened i would have told them they were mad. the only transfers of players that went straight into the first team that i can remember over the past few summers and were completed before august are jagielka and pienaar. its definitely a much better position to be in, but it does make me wonder if something has been changed behind the scenes.
  19. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/columns/story/_/id/5338921/ce/us/donovan-go-manchester-city?cc=5901&ver=us good piece about why he shouldn't go to city and should come back to us instead
  20. he's been stellar in the world cup so far. if we managed to get him on a permanent transfer later this summer it'll make our exposure in the US rise exponentially IMO
  21. Planning on making my first trip to see the blues in person for the Norwich game! I'm spending the second half of july in paris with my girlfriend and I figured I could stop off in england on my way home to see my first Everton game! probably gonna stay in london for a few days (get the new jersey from lillywhites of course, since my last one is a few years old), then drive up to Norwich to watch the game and probably stay the night. i know it's very early to get a match day topic started, but I can't help but be excited as I'm finalizing my travel plans! what do you all know about the opposition? do you think moyes will be playing anything close to his ideal starting lineup at this stage in the preseason?
  22. ya it's been around for a while. started off as a bit of in insult towards him as a younger player, about being a little to nice when he played and not living up to his potential. even though that's obviously not the case now, it just kind of stuck and people use it for lack of an alternative. he definitely needs a new nickname though! any suggestions?
  23. I was on ESPN Soccernet today looking at the fans' blog section and I found this: http://blogs.soccernet.com/everton/archives/2010/05/soccernet_needs_you.php if you're not familiar with it, Soccernet has fan correspondents for all the teams in the Premier League that write blogs about recent matches, transfer rumours, general news, etc. It seems the Everton correspondent isn't going to continue writing, so they're looking for a new one. Don't really fancy myself as much of a writer, but I figured there would be more than a few on here who would be willing to give it a go. If you're interested, click on the link and you can find another link where you can apply for the spot. Hopefully someone from TT will get it!
  24. buddle has been largely unfortunate with his injuries though. had a so-so first season with the galaxy, but then scored 16 the following year when landon scored 20. then last season he was out for most of it due to injury, but now he's scored 9 through the first 8 games. for me, donovan had always been a bit of an underachiever a few years ago. we all know his ability so i felt he should have been dominating more than he was doing. but then he scored 20 in a season, which got him the loan at bayern munich. the loan spell was a bit of a humbling for him i think. he kind of realized that it takes a lot more to succeed in europe than it does in the us. once he came back, his play and attitude for the game was a lot better and that's when he won the league MVP. then he came to us and did brilliantly, now he's back in the states and is on playing amazingly. i think he has 8 assists and a goal through the first 8 games. my guess is that with a good world cup, he'll be making a permanent transfer somewhere later this summer (hopefully to us ) or maybe in january after the MLS season is done (i think he wants to win another title with the galaxy, which would be a pretty good send off)
  25. landon had 3 assists and a goal tonight in a 4-0 win over seattle sounders, who have freddy ljungberg (formerly of arsenal, west ham) and kasey keller (spent most of his time in germany, but played at fulham for a year, right before mark schwarzer went there) on the team
