We need a 1st choice striker to lead the line. Maynard looks a very good player but we need someone ready to come in and score goals straight away. Pav or Defoe on-loan would be expected to do this. Football managers aren't (all) stupid... if he's as good as you proclaim then why hasn't a spurs or arsenal seen this and nicked him off us? If either had offered even near what we paid then it would have been accepted. He was bought and dressed up as winger - he is clearly not a PL winger! ...and to be honest I don't think he's cut out for the physicality of the PL wherever he plays.

Cahill and Saha are 2 excellent 'forwards' - they need to support a striker. Both are assets to the club and offer completely different qualities but they like to take up the same kind of positions. Because of this they do not work as a partnership. Velios is a good player with great potential and this maybe the start of a very successful career but it's a lot to put on him to lead the line week in week out - I would like to see it tried again but I can see what Moyes is doing. It is no secret that Moyes would love a striker in Jan as he has done for the past however many seasons then hopefully we will see Saha and Cahill rotated rather than together if Moyes can achieve this. For now though Tim Cahill and Louis Saha are very important players for our club so they should be supported.

Alex Manninger is the only decent Austrian PL player that stands out to me.

That's what a good run in the champs league does. No doubt they'll be down from that next year but I believe you'll end up top 4 this season anyway.
