I thought, goal aside, AJ was abysmal, in the 2nd half he contributed precisely zero to the cause. He anticipated nothing, couldn't keep hold of the ball in decent positions and consistently gave the ball away, he just isn't very good. If you think he played well and looks a quality player then that's your choice, I thought he looked poor and I doubt Chelsea will be shaking in their boots watching that. Vaughan came on and looked far livelier, won balls in the air, looked dangerous. Hardly anyone played well today, Jags didn't win anything in the air and was outmuscled all day, Valente wasn't great, Cahill anonymous, Neville had the quietest game I've ever seen him have and Osman and Arteta hardly touched the ball. That being said, Osman had some nice touches and Arteta was once again quality on those rare occasions he did get it. Very poor performance, but hopefully we saved the good stuff for Weds.

Has Jimmy Mac performed consistently enough to be labeled proven. He's scored some important goals but proven - depends what he's proved himself as? Proven Prem goal-scorer - not chance.

Love cars but he's been at fault for a couple of goals lately - lost his man vs oldham and again for 1st goal vs chelski - apart from his sending off, obi mikel showed everyone how to play that defensive midfield role - he was immense before he got his marching orders.

I think Moyes is over-pricing him because he knows how much McLeish rates him.

me too, I agree with Yorkshire as well. I'd rather bank the money from McFadden and pay whatever it takes to get Appiah, someone who genuinely would give us that driving force in the middle of the park - he and Fernandes could be awesome together. Cahill's goal record is phenomenal and he has more to his game than that, Arshavin is totally unproven in this league and most people on here have probably hardly seen him play. Cahill has proven time and time again how important he is to Everton and he has basically (with help) turned our season around, since he's come back into the team we've been absolutely flying and winning games left, right and centre. I can't believe the mentality of some fans, Cahill is brilliant for us, there's a lot more players in our team who need replacing before he does.

A lot of this has probably come from people buying arshavin on footie man and having him on fifa - so he's the best player in the world now - how the fuck people can say he'll do a better job than cahill - ridiculous - on what basis can you say that?! - If he's that good why don't we sell cahill to fund this deal?!

I agree, cahill has played a big part in turning our season round when it was in danger of going a bit off-road.

I'd like this arshavin from what i've heard but i can't say enough about this chap to rave about him like others have - is there anyone on this forum who follows russian football week in and out and has seen him perform on a regular basis? - your opinion on the chap i respect - other people hyping him up on what you've read or 1 or 2 games, you can't really drop timmy for that!!!

How are we dropping timmy for a player lets be honest none of us know that much about??? (and before anyone does it, i can go on google and paste some stats about him!!!) Let's sign him first (that'd be a logical starter) and then he'd have to prove himself.

Let's not forget timmy's work-rate - is this arshavin lad going to put that in for us...

That would be unbelievable - the guy is absolute quality. Not entirely sure how we fit Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar, Fernandes, Osman, Arshavin and Carsley in the same side but its a nice problem!
