We're currently 2nd id say we have a better chance of doing well and qualifying for champions league based on current form in the league rather than cup performances. I expect one of the sky 4 to win those since they have massive squads that can rotate.
2nd after 4 games having played 2 of the worst teams currently in the league, an out of form Spurs side at home and a tricky away fixture at West Brom.
Yep definitely easier to maintain that form for 34 more games than to win something like 6/7 games in a cup where some teams fielder weaker teams.

i'd rather top 6 in the league than 11th and mickey mouse cup. way more money getting a higher place in the league and we'd still get europe. I think the modern game has changed in that the european competitions are now more valuable than just winning the cups. whereas back in the day those cups meant something, now they dont' mean anything other than a Europa place which is usually 5-7 anyways.
the game has changed dunc, unlike when MikeO was a kid and the FA cup was the biggest thing since sliced bread, it's now just a secondary compeition compared to the ultimate Champions League.
I hate that type of analogy when it is made at this stage of the season because there is absolutely no guarantee of where we will finish. What happens if we get no silverware and 12th? Was it then a bad decision to get dumped out of the cup?
Like Dunc says we should be looking to win every game, especially when we don't have a European campaign to contend with.

thats what i was saying, Ron just wanted to see what he got, he didn't get much so I'd expect to see Kone in the FA Cup matches.
Maybe, I guess we will find out soon enough.

At the end of the day it's still a trophy, no matter how many teams play weaker teams in the earlier rounds and it's a route into Europe. Winning trophies and getting back into Europe should be our 2 main aims at the moment and winning the League Cup would do that. I'd be absolutely buzzing if we won it.
I agree.

How the fuck is it ridiculous?
I don't know where you were sat but people were nearly coming to blows by me. Barkley was crucified again and Gerry was getting the same treatment
Not as in you were making it up but as in its a ridiculous thing for Evertonions to be doing based on one game after a good spell.
-
Valencia didn't help himself though. He offered no presence in the box and when balls were played into good positions he was on his heels waiting for the ball instead of attacking it. That may come with time as he gets used to the squad but he doesn't seem to have the instinct of a natural striker.
-
To be fair he is not a LB
This... can't judge a player when he is out of position. In fairness he did better than I would have expected in that role.
-
Mori was crap but I thought Holgate did well.
Cleverley did well on the whole too.
Not sure how Kone can be blamed either considering how long it took Koeman to get him on the pitch and the mess of a formation he used as well.

The manager and players got over confident I think. So did the fans!!!
The team we put out should have had enough to see us through. But, for me, we messed around too much in the final 3rd.
The goal their man Murphy scored is the sort I'd expect to see Geri or Barkley score tonight. But they just got it wrong.
I hope this brings us all down to earth. Too easy to get carried away in football. Take each game as it comes.
The difference is that their lad took the shot on when he had the time and space and ours didn't. That was the most frustrating thing about today, a reluctance to pull the trigger.

Just when I thought we had a manager who was actually interested in winning trophies the stupid Dutch prick goes and pulls a stunt like that
Fuming doesn't come close to describing how I feel about that complete and utter bollocks I have just paid to witness
What was the fucking point of fielding a strong side against Yeovil in the last round if he was going to throw the towel in like that?
He was presented with an excellent chance to build on a promising start to the season, an excellent chance to progress into the next round of a very winnable competition. A chance to build on the growing confidence, a chance to gain momentum and feed the feel good factor that was beginning to grow. But then he goes and fucks it all up by putting out a shite starting eleven that had experiment written all over it
The result is he has now killed that momentum dead in its tracks, we have yet again been dumped out of a cup competition by a lower league side , and the doom and gloom has once again descended on Goodison Park. The atmosphere was every bit as toxic as it was under Martinez long before the final whistle
That last sentence is ridiculous. It's not like we gave up without a whimper. We dominated but didn't have the quality in the final third, mainly because we our main striker was injured. As I mentioned at the time, that is a product of our transfer window more than anything.
The changes didn't help us, I don't know why Funes Mori was playing left back for example but sometimes it just doesn't happen and today was frustratingly that day.

He wanted to play and get game time. Martinez never so much as looked at him and tried to jib him off at a very lower level. I honestly think this lad had something about him. It wasn't right how it all turned out.
I want to play but there is no chance I am getting it either.
There was no way he was getting in the first team at the time so he needed games. This isn't like when we had a crocked Saha and bandaged Cahill. They are 3 far superior attacking players. If he wanted to play for Everton he should have got himself Championship football on loan.

I need to get a team to follow. Such a great game. Plenty of excitement if you get an interest.
I just wish there were so many breaks during the game... I love NFL redzone on Sky but I cant watch a whole game from start to finish.
-
Holgate and Williams both did well but I think it has to be Gueye again... its getting boring!
Cleverley did well in the first half but he was a bit anonymous in the second and was too weak for their goal.
-
We had two players that offered no threat and they were Valencia and Lennon. Both did well linking the play but I fail to see how they fit into Koeman's system at the moment.
-
Too many people are trying to dribble past players instead of playing the pass/cross. Barkley is going to be the one everyone names but Coleman / Gerry have just as bad, the formers has probably been the worst. Bolasie and Mirallas have done the same.
-
In fairness to the players, they are giving it a good go but it's just not coming off.
-
This looks an absolute mess of a formation now
-
Cleverley too soft.
-
FFS... great finish though
-
This is turning into one of the Football Manager games where you have have 30 chances at goal, fail to score and they get one chance and it goes in.
Must be a glitch!
-
Off the line! So close
-
Bolasie straight into the game with a great cross. Valencia again not really attacking the ball.
-
Wouldn't argue with those subs.
-
He carrying a knife or summat?
I knew you would comment! It's a change that needs to happen though.
