Pat
We are on track for our highest ever points finish since the league became the Premier. Best to date is 61 pts -> In both 95/96 (6th) & 04/05 (4th) We currently have 50 with 11 matches to play. 12 points from 33 is not only feasible but double that is near a must. A great finish & to pull fourth place this season will need to see us SMASH our previous record. COYB.
cismo
What about 33 from 33? 83 points at the end doesn´t sound bad al all, sparticularly for which means: win a couple of matches everybody would like to do
paul
The sad thing is though, is that you used to need the equivalent of 2 points per game to be there or thereabouts for the championship. That equates top 76 points. That will not be anywhere near enough nowadays.
StevO
how is that sad? i think the harder it is to win the league the better! when the arse went a season unbeaten, that should be the bench mark for every team!
MikeO
Takes Pauls point though, that if the league was more competitive and evenly matched it'd be less predictable and more exciting. No-one will ever do what we did back in the eighties and go from being nobodies to title winnners in one season, or what Forest did when they won the old championship in their first season after promotion. We're averaging 1.852 points per game at the moment for the season. That would put us top of the current Championship with 64 points from 35 games because it's so much more competitive than the Premier (and second in Division One). zequist
True, but the Championship and League One are more competitive because they're constantly losing teams off both the top and bottom, which flattens things out - 29% of L1 and 25% of the Championship get turned over every year, versus only 15% of the Premiership (and that all at the bottom). If ManU, Arsenal, and Chelsea weren't around because they'd been promoted to some Continental Superleague after last season, we'd be in the thick of one of the best EPL title races in history right now. MikeO
Good points JD. Looking at a comparison to 04/05 after twenty-eight games we had 51points (W15-D6-L7 GF34 A29) Two points less than today (16-5-7). Very similar records apart from the fact that our goal difference is now 22 rather than 5. Back then we stumbled over the line after winning just three and drawing one of the final ten....that ain't gonna happen this time for sure! Think it may have been said in one or two other places on here recently but it bears repeating... It's a bloody great time to be an Evertonian !!! And finished with a negative GD if I remember correctly. That certainly aint gonna happen. Think the bench mark for CL is 68 which is 5 more wins from 10 games. No reason why we can't breach the 70 mark now that confidence and momentum is at a high COYB

MikeO
I've shifted all the stuff from when this topic went into a parallel universe into "Introductions." Edited March 5, 2008 by MikeO
