Cornish Steve Posted March 11, 2014 Report Share Posted March 11, 2014 My daughter attends what's called a magnet school - a school in the county that specializes in a particular topic, in this case the performing arts. A couple of weeks ago, the school gave four weekend performances of 'Les Miserables'. Frankly, I was stunned by the quality of the production, including some wonderful singing voices and clever choreography. My daughter had to participate in almost daily rehearsals for a couple of months, but it was worth it. So, if you have a few minutes, take a look at the clip below - and remember that these are all teenagers. The singer's voice in the second clip, and the details of the choreography in the final clip, are exceptional. No wonder that several students, every year, go straight from this school onto Broadway. I just can't get over the need to dive into the smallest darkest corner of the planet I can find every time the name "Andrew Lloyd-Webber" gets hinted at :major overreaction alert: . Similar schools over here now as well but I'm not sure how much emphasis is put into specialist areas compared to over there. On the whole, the policy is to base these magnets in some of the more struggling schools as a way to bring them to life. Personally, I am delighted that my daughter attends a school that is far more diverse than the more local schools. She needs to be exposed to minority cultures, so that's an added bonus of this school. No brainer then....does she intend to stay in the business? Just tell her to avoid ALW . Got a nephew currently doing a degree in songwriting/production at the Brighton School of Modern Music......amazing how these opportunities have developed so much since our youth eh? Always been a fan of Les Mis. Your daughter's school has done an incredible job here. Well done! You should have heard him sing "Bring Him Home". It was on a par, if not better, than the well-known 10th anniversary performance in London. It's such a shame that they have not posted that part of the show. The lad is finishing high school this year and apparently has his pick of where to go from here. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he goes straight onto Broadway. Right now, five former students from that school are playing leading roles on Broadway. Last year, my wife took our daughter to New York to watch one of them. They were given a tour backstage, were introduced to some of the other stars, our daughter was invited to stand on the stage, and so on. It was a wonderful experience. They were given a tour backstage, were introduced to some of the other stars, our daughter was invited to stand on the stage, and so on. It was a wonderful experience. If you've been watching Everton all these years, I think you'll have seen enough pantomimes, comedies and tragedies. Standing on the stage isn't a theatrical term, as far as I know; I just meant there was nothing like taking in the atmosphere - seats et al!
