Zed Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Not wanting to temp fate :arrowhead: , but presuming we get into the UEFA Cup when does the first round start and when would we know who we draw against I seem to remember that it starts pretty early in the summer, or is that the intertoto Quote
SimonButtle Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Intertoto starts early don't know about UEFA cup Quote

Zed Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Just checked the BBC web and west ham and spurs played their first games in mid septermber, I guess due to the UK seedings Quote

Adam Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Would we have to play any qualifers like we did for the Chams league as we was not seeded as not much experience in Europe? Quote
Joe Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 If we get the Intertoto spot I am going to try and buy tickets since I will be over there when it takes place. I'd rather qualify for Europe without having to go to the intertoto though. Is the intertoto spot 7th then? Quote
GoldfishMemory Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Would we have to play any qualifers like we did for the Chams league as we was not seeded as not much experience in Europe? 5th is automatic and 6th is qualifiying normally so I dont know if we will have 2 automatic or 2 qualifying out of the 3 places. How does the cup entry normally work?? Quote
zequist Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) The draw for the first round proper is towards the end of August, a few days after the second qualifying round is finished. This season they held the draw on August 25. The two legs of the first round (where the 5-6-7 placed EPL teams would jump in the fray) are played in September. 80 teams go into the first round, and nobody gets a free pass to the group stages - the 40 teams with the most ranking points are "seeded" into one group and randomly draw opponents from the other 40 "unseeded" teams. Intertoto is 8th this year (or whoever is the highest finisher below 7th who entered it); 5th-7th are guaranteed UEFA Cup spots. As long as we finish 5, 6, or 7, we'll go straight into September's first round. If we ended up playing Intertoto we'd have to play that first and then (assuming a win) we'd be entered into the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup in August. So we'd have to go through two steps more to get to the first round than we would if we simply finish 7th or better. Quote
Zed Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Any chances of getting Dynamo Buchesrest Anyway, im regretting tempting fate until its for deffo that were in Quote
MikeO Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Any chances of getting Dynamo Buchesrest They're currently top of the league in Romania, ten points clear with eight games left...only lost one all season and conceded fifteen goals in twenty-six games...good form! Last year Romania didn't have a direct entry into the group stage of the Champions League so I'd think the same would apply this, which would mean they'd go in at the third qualifying round. If they lost that then they'd be in UEFA but I'm certain that they'd be in the top forty seeds (along with us) so in answer to the question Zed....no. Phew . Quote
