German Laws

Just picked this up from Kipper.

WARNING TO ALL EVERTONIANS AT NUREMBERG ON 8th NOVEMBER 2007.

Our visit to Nuremberg for the UEFA Cup game on 8th November 2007 promises to be a great occasion whatever the result. Let’s make it memorable for all the right reasons.

But many Evertonians – particularly the younger ones – who travel to Nuremberg may not be aware of German Law concerning the Nazi era. Some may even think it a cause for humour or jokes with German citizens. This would be a bad mistake.

German Law expressly forbids Nazi salutes, provocative public exhibition of Nazi memorabilia and insignia and denial of the Holocaust mass murder of six million European Jewish citizens. Anybody who breaks this law is dealt with summarily. Long jail sentences are not uncommon. As an example, the English historian David Irving has written several books and articles which either deny the Holocaust or cast doubt on its reality, and when he visited some years ago he was arrested, tried, and sentenced to a few years in jail.

Do not think you can get away with the excuse of a few beers and that you were “only joking” if you are confronted by the police after breaking these laws. Nor is ignorance considered a defence if you end up in court. You will feel the full weight of a nation trying its best to forget a terrible part of its history and still in no mood to accept excuses from those who would try to take advantage of it.

Germany also has a minor problem with organised football hooliganism. The police deal with it accordingly. If you see a problem, stay well away from it.

German citizens are as warm and welcoming as any others and will more than likely speak excellent English should the circumstances demand. You will have a great time in Nuremberg if you respond with the same warmth and friendliness. But step outside the law and you know what to expect.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Reading the 2 paragraphs in green something jumped out at me, what the fuck are they playing at?? This is a seniour European nation surly as part of Europe they need to be open to freedom of speach and accept that people will have an opinion weather it is for or against the Nazi ideology. Our country is over run with racist biggots from all backgrounds and we let them have their say, I was under the impression we are in this stupid situation as a result of being part of the European Union and working under their guidelines when it comes to freedom of speach and human rights. Now it appears that another major European nation is still stamping it's feet over something it doesnt like and getting away with it so it begs the question why is our country so weak over everything?

Germany arest people because they dont like what is being said about actual historical events.

America turn back holiday makers after 7 hour flights with little explaination

Astralia leave ships full of imigrants out at sea untill they get so hungry they go home

Great Brittain is incapable of controling it's own boarders, lets muslims & white groups alike spout racist shite on a regular basis under the umbrella of 'freedom of speach'. Lets in thousands of eastern europeans regardless of the fact the know they're gona get jobs cash in hand and add fuck all to the economy.

What is this country playing at and why is it continuing when everybody else in the world seems capable of drawing a line in the sand regarding issues that effect it's people. When are we going to get a grip, we are proberbly one of the smallest (in physical size) developed nations in the world and still we let our little island get over run because we just can't say NO!

Soap box away for another few weeks ;)

What leaps out for me is, why do Kipper feel the need to warn people against making Nazi salutes, wearing swastikas and denying the holocaust? Is it something that they feel is likely to happen?

And they don't arrest people because they don't like "what is being said about actual historical events." They have the power to arrest people for denying that actual historical events took place which is a bit different. The holocaust is a virtually unique event in history and their national shame has led to unusual laws (although you can be arrested in the UK for inciting racial/religious hatred) but why visiting Evertonians need to be warned about it I find a bit baffling.

before the world cup i had only known the usual stigma surrounding Germany, but since then ive known a few people who went to the world cup and who have been on holiday. nothing but good things said about the place and the people. seems Germany are a very welcoming place for tourists, and making a massive effort to sort out their reputation, and to try to make the place better for their own people, rather than trying to please the rest of the world.

fuck it, im moving to Germany.

actually, they probably wont let me in, im of no benefit to them, send me back.

(this may need to be moved to crayola)
