What I read today in the Portuguese websites was that they won't let him go cheaply, even with him refusing to sign a new contract. Porto prefer to let him rot in the reserves for a season. They've rejected a 4 million Euro offer from the redshite. Of course they will sell if offered a decent amount, and I reckon it'll probably take 8-9 million Euro. But I'm not sure I want him at Everton after his attitude over the last few weeks.

Obviously the Eredivise isn't as competitive, but I'd rather we spent 6 million Euros in one of the league's star players, who has been capped and scored a few goals for Serbia, than 12 million pounds in getting James McCarthy. Djuricic and Quintero were just 2 names that sprung to mind anyway. Remember I'm not saying McCarthy isn't a good player, just that this 12 million pound price tag is massively inflated, nevermind the 20 million being mentioned. I'd be very disappointed if we signed him for that amount of money.

For a club in our financial position, we cannot afford to invest in players with no resale value (not often at least), that's true, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be asking for more than 12 million for Baines. He's one of the best left backs in the world and still has 4 or 5 seasons left in him, so I'm sure a club with money would be happy to pay that amount to get him, rather than investing in a McCarthy. I like McCarthy myself but 12 million is madness. This transfer window alone has seen more promising midfielders moving for much less. In the Portuguese league. See Djuricic, Quintero, etc

Haha yeah, it's a shame really as Vellios has always looked decent when he's been given some playing time. If we don't sell any of our forwards we should probably loan him out to a Championship club for the season.

Well that's been terrible, but it's the first friendly so obviously no cause for concern. I'd rather we make these silly mistakes in pre-season. Duffy looks poor but he needs more game time. Vellios needs to be given more minutes although with 3 players ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment it's not looking likely.

Despite them all being ex-Wigan, I'm happy with our signings so far. Joel: We needed to bring a goalkeeper in and we did, and he's one for the future who may actually challenge Howard, unlike Mucha. Alcaraz: Well he's coming on a free and I seriously doubt he'll be worse than Heitinga in this past season - I've always liked him and actually think he may form a decent partnership with Jags if/when Distin's legs start to go. Kone: We were short of options in attack and we brought in a striker who had a good record in the Prem last season. Obviously he's almost 30 and cost a few million but we could have done worse. I won't lie though, I'm happier about Joel and Alcaraz joining. Kone... meh. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong but his spell at Sevilla scares me, although it was a while ago. So, if we bring in Moses and/or Honda and don't sell anyone I will be quite happy. It's probably unlikely though.
