  1. Go watch the replay. Jensen was unmarked on the right because McNeil trotted back. He had time to cover but didn’t. Absolutely he was culpable.
  2. The biggest culprit for their goal, IMO, was McNeil. Maybe he was pacing himself since still not 100 percent fit, but he should not have just ambled back.
  3. Just watched the game again, this time analysing as much as enjoying. First off, let's admit that the transfer window was very good for us. I know plenty of commentators were critical, especially when Iwobi left, but we cut the wage bill substantially, moved out a good amount of deadwood, and brought in just the players we needed. Young adds to the experience in defence; Beto gives us a point man up front; Danjuma does his job well; and we have Chermiti in reserve and Harrison to add more depth. Good job to the recruitment team. It's making a difference on the field. Second, we have very good balance on the team, with useful versatility as well. Young can play just about anywhere. Garner can play centrally or out wide. We have more options, despite arguably less depth. Third, and this may sound controversial, we now have just the talent we need to move up the table. What's needed is for those returning from injury to reach full fitness and for the team as a whole to gel. The more they play together, the more the incisive passes will work. We just need a little luck and an absence of untimely injuries. Fourth, I'm quite impressed with Tarkowski as team captain. You can see how he guides the younger players in defence, how he's always in front of the ref, and even how he runs over to injured players from the opposing team. He's a strong and vocal captain, and a fair one. Scoring one, assisting one, and saving one, he was my MotM. Finally, as the team play together more and more, not only will things begin to click, but confidence will also kick in. Take just one silly example. Do you recall Dom's run down the left touchline when he juggled rather than dribbled the ball? He was confident. He was enjoying himself. The belief was there. Multiply that by 11 and this team really could finish in the top half of the table. We didn't deserve to lose against Fulham or Wolves. We were the better team in both cases, but we had no-one who could score goals. Now we have two big, strong centre forwards, and we've got the youthful promise of another. Now, when we're the better team, we're going to win. And wasn't it nice to see that shot of Maupay sitting with Tomey? That era for us is over!
  4. Beto makes such a difference. It's going to take him several weeks to really get used to this league and team, but, once up to speed, he's going to add a new dimension to the team. Can't wait for him and Dom to be on the field together.
  5. Trust me. Changing score/scorer always costs you points!
  6. Congratulations to Bill for scoring 10 points in round 5. As mentioned above, those unable to make a prediction (since the site was down) were each awarded 2 points (the average score this round).
  7. I'm awarding everyone who made no prediction the average number of points scored this week.
  8. I bailed you out (since you didn't identify a scorer): I marked your scorer as 'none'.
  9. Because the phrase you used applies to Scotland yesterday: they didn't really show up.
  10. Well done to England. By all accounts, they played well. It seems the unbeaten Scotland of recent months didn't really show up today.
  11. Key words: "training match". Who cares about the score? Did we get from it what we'd hoped?
  12. Fine print. No congratulations will be offered to England should any of the following conditions prevail. Victory is undeserved. Victory is achieved as a result of bias. Victory is achieved as a result of unsportsmanlike behavior. Victory is achieved via a player who should have earlier been dismissed. Victory is achieved because added time exceeded its declared duration. Victory is achieved because of bad weather. Victory is achieved because of inadequate floodlights. One or more England fans chant slogans that violate FIFA guidelines. One or more England fans are seen to be inebriated within the stadium. One or more England fans frequent a pub that's clearly supportive of Scotland. The English media publish demeaning comments about Celts or Celtish nations. English TT members publish inflammatory or provocative remarks.
  13. Good luck to England today. Of course, I shall be supporting the Celts of Scotland but will congratulate whichever team wins. Let's hope it's an evenly matched and exciting game. The atmosphere should be intense.
  14. Very good! Are you using a translator function?
  15. I thought at first that Pogba had been suspended for a doping offence, but the BBC headline appears to think the opposite. Did he wrongfully stop others from taking banned drugs? What's an anti-doping offence? https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66780283
  16. The first half of the season is likely to be consolidation, and I agree with averaging a point a game. The second half of the season should be progression, gaining 1-1/2 points per game or more. That would give us a target of 18+27 = 45 points for the season. After two very dark years, I'd be OK with that.
  17. The ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
  18. Yes, it does. So much more exciting when a series is evenly matched and not lopsided.
  19. It's the actual translation. (Note, as in Welsh, some letters mutate: hence 'benn' and not 'penn'.) https://www.cornishdictionary.org.uk/#nebes https://www.cornishdictionary.org.uk/#nes https://www.cornishdictionary.org.uk/#dha https://www.cornishdictionary.org.uk/#penn https://www.cornishdictionary.org.uk/#blogh
  20. Come a little nearer and I'll scalp your head bald.
  21. I happened upon the commentary at the BBC site: Maguire is playing for England? Haha. With all the talent available, the manager picked Maguire?
