  1. I see Liverpool got three penalties, you couldn't make it up. They also dived twice but the ref didn't give them, didn't book the players who dived either. Refs are never going to solve diving unless they book players for diving. They don't hesitate to book defenders (red or yellow) when they give a penalty.

  2. Don't rate Wilshire, he goes down too easily which you don't want in a midfielder. Barkley is better and should play in the heat and humidity of Brazil. Lampard is too old for the conditions. Don't know how Cleverly gets in, can't understand how he gets in the Man U squad let alone England. Don't think we'll get beyond the qualifying group stage.

  3. Was in work today and no radio either, only learned of the result in the van on the way home at 5pm, have not seen any of the goals yet. Read most of the posts here on the game, so in a nut shell were Arsenal worth the win? Did we just throw in the towel or were we smashed good and proper?

    The result

The result really flattered Arsenal. Even after the penalty we looked as though we could get an equaliser. We pushed too hard and left gaps at the back.

Some poor performances. Coleman was disappointing and the goalkeeper is a joke. When we were in possession Arsenal pressed hard, when Arsenal were in possession we stood off and let them play.

  4. England won't win the World Cup :o

The Denmark manager summed it up: Good luck - you need it. We were dire last night. Football played at walking pace with 50% of all passes going backwards. Twice in the first half we were on the edge of the opposition penalty area and four passes later the ball was back with Hart.

Rooney was poor. He had three shots at goal which went about 10 yards over the bar.

  5. Things need to change and are changing slowly. I remember many years ago reading about a Scottish Golf Club. They had lady members but the ladies were not allowed in the club house. There was a window at the side of the club house where ladies could buy refreshments. The ladies were lobbying for permission to use the clubhouse. The Club Committee met to discuss this and came up with a compromise. The compromise was to put a canvas awning over the window so the ladies didn't get wet when they were queuing. This is a true story and illustrates how things need to change but they need to change sensibly.

Many years ago at my own Golf Club the ladies were pushing for equality of membership with the men. The club called a general meeting and at the meeting I said that I was in favour of total 100% equality for the ladies, which went down very well with them. I went on to say that there should not be any playing time restrictions for ladies but the ladies tees would disappear, all the mens and ladies competitions would disappear and that new 'club competitions' would be introduced which both men and ladies would compete for on equal terms. Membership fees for ladies would increase to be the same as the fee for men. There was nearly a riot, even though the offer was for 100% equality. I then made it clear that my suggestions were made tongue in cheek, to illustrate the point that the terms of 'equality' have to be based on practicalities and common sense.

We can have women referees and assistant referees in the football league but is it practical to insist that 50% of all football league teams are women.

  6. I rate Naismith, he has got a footballers head on his shoulders. By that I mean he reads the game well, doesn't lose concentration and knows what is going on around him. Given time, he could strike up a very productive partnership with Lukaku. It doesn't matter which of them gets the goals as long as the ball goes in the net. The more Naismith plays, the more the fans will appreciate what he contributes.

  7. Is there any truth in the rumour that the FA are bringing out a new rule: If at the end of 90 minutes Liverpool haven't been awarded a penalty, then there will be a penalty shoot out with Liverpool allowed to take one penalty. With the exception of the goalkeeper, the opposing team have the option of staying on the pitch to watch or return to the dressing room.
