Is the idea of a Mirallas for Dembele and Lennon swap completely outrageous?
Mirallas seems ready to go and Tottenham have players to unload.

Yesterday.
Yesterday summarizes what it means to be an evertonian. 3000 away tickets sold, down a goal and down to 10 men within 10 mins of the restart in a replay/competition most evertonians dont fancy this year (personally i love the fa cup and am devastated we are eliminated but thats for another thread).
There are a handful of teams in the world in all sports that do what we did yesterday. Draw level and fight on to take the lead in extra time. Resilience. Character. Passion.
I will remember yesterday's game forever and it will always be one of my favorites. Win/lose/draw we are passionate, we are rabid, we are blues, we are Everton Football Club.

Mcgeady for Mirallas if Kev runs out of steam. Barkley for Barry if we are chasing the game.
Close - i would start garbutt over baines and we know mcaleny will be on the bench instead of browning.

If not for our form surely we would be favorites, as it stands i think it would be generous to call it a coin flip

Taking McCarthy out of the side should enable Martinez to see where the real problems lie - not think "ah we are missing James - it will be ok when he gets fit".
For me McCarthy has been covering too many players. Its almost as if they think "its OK, James will win that back for us".
Carsley hit the nail on the head, we need to start doing the ugly things better. Winning second balls, closing players down quicker - is that down to Martinez? Maybe its down to him to tell them to "get it sorted" but these are professional footballers who have been playing football to the highest level of their age group for 15 plus years.
Last year these players were like terriers when the opposition had the ball, now they stand back a few yards and jog around. Compare McCarthy and Naismith to all the other players in our team when the opponenst have the ball - they run "hard". They put the same effort into the running as they do when we are on a counter attack.
Am I allowed to use Naismith vs Lukaku as a comparison in this regard? Well I am. Rom is supposedly a powerful player with pace, he only does this when he has the ball in front of him. Its like getting a dog to run, throw a ball 50 yards ahead and the dog sees it and he is off like a whippet. Yet if another dog picks up the ball before him he stops spriniting and jogs over to the dog wagging his tail hoping the dog will just drop the ball for him.
The same can be said for Barkley - ball at his feet, his ears prick up, his chest puffs out and his adrenaline is surging as he looks to exploit a gap and run at goal. As soon as the opposition has it he's not thinking about winning it back for the team, he's watching McCarthy and positioning himself to recieve the pass - not good enough!!!
We need 10 outfield players who want to get that ball off the opposition. We want to make them uncomfortable. We can only do that if we get every player working the same way. Not just Besic, Mccarthy and Naismith.
Absolutely spot on! And i would lean towards saying that is usually a player's responsibility but we have heard from multiple players Martinez asks certain players not to do that. Therefore i put that on Martinez. Hard work and a bit of luck = success in anything you do in life it needs to translate to the pitch as well. I support Martinez but i never thought i would miss Moyes this much, puts his tenure in a much different perspective now

With all that info i still expect a very different lineup than Newcastle

Coleman, Alcaraz, Distin, Baines
Besic Barry
Mirallas Barkley Naismith
Lukaku
w/ youth gk, garbutt, oviedo, mcgeady, eto'o, browning, kone on the bench

I'll never jump ship on this club and I still love Roberto but he is unquestionably at fault for this run of form. UNQUESTIONABLY!
Passion/Spirit starts from the top. His calm demeanor has proven fruitful before but in slides like this one you need to change it up. Players/people react to a typically calm man going absolutely nuts every once in a while.
I AM SO F***ING SICK OF SEEING PLAYERS OUT OF POSITION. It's been 5-7 games in a row now with players all over the place!! MESSI WOULD BE A SHIT LEFT BACK, RIGHT BACK, DEFENSIVE MID. SCHWEINSTEIGER WOULD BE A SHIT STRIKER. RONALDO WOULD BE A SHIT CENTER BACK. STOP PLAYING PEOPLE OUT OF POSITION, THEY SIMPLY ARENT GOOD ENOUGH. Baines will never be a midfielder, McCarthy will never be an attacking option, Eto'o cant play on the wing. Barkley cant play on the wing.
I would much rather trot out 3 academy players playing in their natural positions than put out that shit on a consistent basis. Play Eto'o down the middle or dont play him at all. Play Barkley in the 10 role or dont play him at all. Play Baines as a LB or dont play him at all. Play McCarthy as DM or dont play him at all. Play Naismith down the middle or dont play him at all.

Late to the party here and im sure everyone is ready to move on but im too disgusted not to post...
That front 4 is absolutely horrendous. HORRENDOUS. Naismith Etoo and Barkley are terrible out wide. Lukaku did well out there against Arsenal last year and yet this year he is solely used as a striker. Perhaps throw Eto'o up top and leave lukaku on a wing. Not voting for that just saying that is the only way it could produce anything remotely close to a good performance.
Keep rotating Barry/McCarthy/Besic in DM and plant Ross in the center as the 10. Play actual wingers and use Lukaku out wide when they need a rest. Use Eto'o and Naismith off the bench or use them to start when Lukaku goes out wide.
I really do like Roberto as a manager but Saturday convinced he will never be the in your face guy after a blowout. There are 2-3 occasions every season where the manager should just cook his teams performance publicly and privately. Saturday was his opportunity and he didnt do it which disappoints me. He talks a lot about the history and love of Everton but he is missing one key thing right now. Passion! Everton was built on passion and thrives on it. I dont give a shit what starting 11 is out on the field, play the under 18s for goodness sake but everyone better work their ass off and the manager better demand that.
On a positive note Besic is fucking brilliant. Hands down my new favorite player. The no. 17 has been great the past decade! Cahill, lukaku for his good season and now besic.
Lastly, and i know im mostly alone in this assessment but, I would take a 10th place finish if it meant we made it to the Europa League or FA Cup final.

I think Gerry was overrated to he honest. He had a couple of games where he looked really good...Not world class, just really good. Other than that he was either average or invisible.
I can see where the Gerry, aided comparisons are coming from. Though I would say Gerry had lightning pace but no cross at the end, while Aiden is still nippy but nowhere near the same pace, but can cross much better.
Completely agree. I never understood the Deulofeu fascination. Yea he runs at defenders and he's flashy but he was often too selfish and lazy to have an impact. I think his Sevilla stint on the bench showcases that. Everyone gets enamored with raw talent, sports is a results business. All 11 guys on the field have a different responsibility to the team and Deulofeu often left his unfulfilled.

I'm hoping for and honestly feeling a comfortable result on Monday. Most rest the 1st team has had in months and they understand the weight of the game. All the makings of a classic throttling. (I hope)

Best case: Celtic, Dnipro, Young Boys, Aalborg, Guingamp
Fair enough: Villareal, PSV, Trabzonspor
Difficult: Ajax, Anderlecht, Torino
Disaster: Sevilla, Roma

As the 32 teams settle into their place in the draw I thought it would be fun to get the conversation started.
We have been knocked out of the competition previously by Villareal, Sporting and Fiorentina. Only villareal available for round of 32.
Personally i casually follow celtic and fiorentina so i would love to get them as well.
Ideally we would play and beat the following teams: Villareal (r32), Liverpool (r16), Sporting (qf), Celtic (semis), Fiorentina (final)

For me this game ranks in the top 5 most exciting thus far this season. Which is a clear indictment of how poor it has been i suppose.

It's pretty clear this is going to be a very important summer for the club.
At minimum the following will/need to leave: Atsu, Distin, Pienaar, Eto'o
You could also argue for: Alcaraz, Hibbert, Barry, Gibson, McGeady, Osman, Mirallas, Kone, McAleny
Hibbert/Alcaraz/Osman/Gibson decent enough as squad player - cant see them leaving because it will cost way more to find a viable replacement
Barry loved by Martinez wont leave
McAleny could be sold to Championship team
Mirallas/McGeady/Kone - likely to be sold. Need to raise funds somehow. Mirallas will catch a price or decent player swap. McGeady decent tag, Kone decent tag.
With that being said we need to bring in: 1 GK, 2 CB, 1 CM, 3 Wingers, 1 Striker - That's going to be very expensive!!!!
