  1. First of all, I don't think there will be something unexpected from their side. They will be on the pitch with usual line-up and tactic, 4-3-3. (Instead injuries and bans) People who are interested in analyzing all aspects of a game must know already, Klopp's tactical approach named as "Gegenpress" and it is described as (i quote here for a better explanation than I could do); Simple but effective. If I were an opponent manager against Liverpool, the only solution I could come up with would have been "Possession play" to hold up the ball more when they start their pressure after losing the ball but as their two games against City showed us that is not working. I mean, possession football god Pep with winger-central midfielders like De Bruyne and Silva in his team... It didn't work out. As an example, while Bayern Munich was dominating European football, it was Jupp's tactical approach as well with some little differences than how Klopp operating it. Jupp's was sending one man close down the man with a ball and one man to each possible recipients. Klopp's approach orders the closest players to close down the man with the ball and risking and leaving potential recipients to be free by assuming the man with the ball cannot send an accurate pass under the pressure. In other explanation, they are surrounding the ball holding man like a soldier who is back in town after a long-term duty abroad. Jags is on form lately but neither he nor Keane are good passers. Only full-backs Baines and Coleman can possibly get out of that pressure. Check Salah's 3rd-minute goal against the Spurs. Karius swings the ball to Henderson where Eriksen was far away to make a move, Henderson sends the ball forward with a header to Mane. A misunderstanding between Sanches and Trippier lets Mane act as he wants and leaves an empty line to run for Firmino, totally unmarked. Mane sends the ball towards Firmino where Sanches and Trippier were able to touch the ball to evade a dangerous position and see the rest on replay... A free ball goes towards Dier who has been chased by Mane and possibly noticed it and tried to get rid of the ball asap with a back pass. An inaccurate pass, Salah dives in for the loose ball, gets it and scores an early goal. The very first thing that should be Sam's warning to the team in the dressing room, before the match. "Stay awake, don't panic, try to use the ball efficiently. Always think one step further than what position you are in at the moment". Something like that, I don't know, never been a good motivator. If Sam decides to keep midfield narrow when Blues on the attack, it will be a huge mistake. It'll give Liverpool the chance easily cover the ball and potential recipients at a less distance. A possible scenario: the player cannot pass the ball forward, forced for a back pass which is a chance to do a simple mistake where pacers like Salah, Mane or Firmino interrupts the pass and create a chance against. Pickford will be the key. As Liverpool's forwards able to cover up 4 defenders and the goalkeeper with only 3 men, he will be forced to play long balls. Accuracy there will be important. Side balls to Coleman to Baines will be the traps as its what Liverpool wants to force the opponent to the side around touch-line. Tottenham has been there, City has been there... Their solution was to send defenders up high. Let's say Everton is going good and is able to move the ball from defense to midfield. In that case, Klopp will order his midfielders to foul to slow down Everton's tempo. In Turkey, we call it "Yugoslavian foul" and this reference comes from basketball where they were popular with their dirty fouls to cut off a dangerous position intentionally. Everton's problem against City was keeping possession, it will not be that bad against Liverpool but that's how they play and what they want, so the statistics can be misleading tomorrow. I know Sam is a geek when it comes to the in-game statistics but it won't help him tomorrow. Tottenham's possession was %70 or something like that in the second half of the game against Liverpool. Pep loves to play with midfielders who are also capable to play on wings to diversify his attacking movements and crush opponent's defensive order. Klopp is more strict with the positioning of his players but they are good at gathering second balls and support the attack with central midfielders in a straight attacking line. We'll see 5 men trying to lance their lines on the attack. (Salah - Mane - Firmino + 2 midfielders) But they have another important weakness, right alongside their vulnerable defense... They are getting tired in every match and being inconsistent in the second halves. I would normally say (based on my memory of the teams who won against Jupp's Bayern, Pep's Dortmund, Bielsa's Bilbao and Pep's Barça) 4-2-3-1 tactic with 2 deep-lying playmakers or mirror 4-3-3 with man-to-man marking on defense and with a target midfielder who is tall (can win headers) and can hold up the ball with his back to the goal (Viera, Fellaini, Matic etc.) on the attacks are the kryptonite. 4-2-3-1 formation with 2 deep-lying playmakers is not the case as Everton can't even be considered have one of them. The second one is not an option as well, obviously. There is also a third one which is named as Park the Bus, a.k.a party pooper. My humble wish is to see an Everton team hit back Liverpool tomorrow with their own defensive tactic, slowing down the tempo with some basic fouls and resist their attacks with some significant defensive positioning in the first half. I do predict that they will be down in the second half again and as their defense is vulnerable, Everton will get its chances to score. As I see in the posts, some of you are not feeling it for tomorrow and being pessimistic. On the other hand, Everton looks like the weaker side on paper but it is a derby game, there will be no underdog, there will be no statistics matters, there Blues will need to show how brave they can be and passionate more than ever. What I would love to see; Pickford Coleman -- Jags -- Keane -- Baines Gana Rooney -- Davies Walcott Vlasic/Bolasie Niasse Cenk for Niasse around 55th - 60th minutes as my humble prediction is on they will be tired in the second half, Niasse can tire them a little bit more in the first half and Cenk can find more chances against a vulnerable and tired Liverpool defense. I wish good luck to Blues in the derby game.
  2. As long as Cenk is sincere about being "not ready for the league" on his arrival, Sam deserves credit for this kind of protection, I agree with you. It is an unexpected sensitivity from a person who is known for his "I managed to do..." when everything goes great and "Team couldn't manage to do..." when everything goes bad kind of attitudes. Give the devil his due I guess the closest idiom in English to what we say in Turkish; "Criticize the man but do not be unfair to him" if I try to translate.
  3. He is grateful to him, and Sam's being "him" part of this story is just sad but true.
  4. By the way, just to underline that he did mention Sam in this interview by saying; "When I first arrived, I wasn't ready because Turkish league was on a break and EPL was going on, Sam said 'We need to work on your physical attributes' and I've started to do some extra training after scheduled training. After that he informed me on that he will use me as a substitute for a couple of upcoming matches, just to protect me." I think my fellow Turkish friend @Tanora forgot to translate that part but I think it is an important part just because of some reactions which were posted here while Cenk wasn't playing as a starter. On this subject, even I was thinking Sam was humiliating him by not letting him play but according to Cenk, Sam was trying to protect him from the fans with high expectations and Sam kindly informed him about it. Of course, this does not justify how terrible manager he is
  5. bad thing that they look perfect against City (sad but true) good thing that salah is out after an injury, of course as a human I don't wish a long-term injury, one week will do the work. another good thing is to witness typical Liverpool this season, dominant in the first half, getting tired in the second half so, I am expecting City to do better soon in the second half. another good thing is to know they'll be tired after this match. still, it doesn't change the fact that Klopp is a better tactician than Fat one. His piston like attacking football approach is dangerous... (I wasn't expecting this result so far tho... It was quite surprising to me)
  6. Pool's biggest handicap is their defense IMO. Their attacking force is almost like City, Salah is playing like an Egyptian god right now but their defense making them vulnerable more than City. As long as their attackers marked well enough, Everton can turn things around.
  7. One and only positive performance for Blues today, Jags.
  8. a total midfield dominance concludes all... Heat Map
  9. Also, Walcott should have been killing Laporte... Bad day for him so far.
  10. Not sure if you are watching it on TV or stadium but if you are watching it on TV, did you see the wide-angle replay? Sane ran to mid from wing, received a direct goal kick from the GK, eliminated the marker, one pass and boom. As you say, such a typical City goal. In general, defenders are out of position, City outruns the midfield. These are 2 major problems for Everton.
  11. I am f..in surprised with this 11 not as defensive as i've expected, big improvement.
  12. I've seen the same news in the Turkish newspapers yesterday but it wasn't like this. In Turkish newspapers, it was like "Benfica once offered Talisca + 7m. to Besiktas before he is signed by Everton but Besiktas asked for Talisca + 12m. and rejected any other offers" but this one says that Benfica offered Talisca for Cenk to Everton. I just "lol" to this. First of all, Talisca is a really talented player but not a classic no. 10. He is more like a shadow striker or false 9. His set pieces and long shots are good as f... and heading is not bad. On the other hand, not a consistent performer even in the same game. He is the reason why Besiktas falling apart this year. The team has changed the tactical approach as he couldn't manage to play as a 10. So weak, can't get into tackles, if he does he losses it. He doesn't have any vision on the pitch, passes are average. It is a funny and manipulated rumor. I don't know about Liverpool, don't think Klopp will want a midfielder like Talisca in his team but yes, there are rumors that Mourinho really looking forward to signing him and as far as I know, he praised him already by showing his intention but he added "it is unlikely for him to get a work permit in the UK" as he is not a regular Brazilian national. For this national break, he received a call but couldn't even make it into the game. 1st game he was a sub, their manager didn't even use him and on the 2nd game, he wasn't even in the squad. The dilemma here is, his loan contract with Besiktas will end at the end of the season. Until the end of his loan contract, if Besiktas offers 21m. to Benfica, we have the first option to sign him. Last year, they were up to it but this year he has been a total disappointment. So it is unlikely Besiktas will offer what they receive from Everton for Cenk's deal and risk all of it for Talisca. Turkish clubs don't have that luxury. Also, he used the talk about Benfica publicly, I mean he was criticizing the team, and neither the club itself nor the fans want him back. I think his agent up to something. Why do you even call a player that you are not going to use or even put in the subs as a Brazilian manager? Maybe his agent kindly said "look, I am trying to sell him to another team. just call him..." and spreading this kind of bullshit report to the media as well. That's what I think. Absolutely, not an Everton-kind player. I don't know if he improves in the future but with his current shape, it'll be a huge fail for any team who signs him.
  13. I lived in Ukraine for almost 2 years, in Luhansk - Shakhtar zone just before Russia's invasion... Back in that time, I used to go Shakhtar's CL game and some league games when my schedule was available. So the league is most of the time between Dinamo and Shakhtar but I like Shakhtar more. When I was there, their manager was Mircea Lucescu. Who is Mircea Lucescu? For Turkish football fans, he is known for his UEFA Super Cup and League Title with Galatasaray and League Title with Besiktas. Then he moved to Shakhtar. Shakhtar president was and still is a shady businessman Rinat Akhmedov, pretty rich man. He used to own half of the city's properties, not sure if it is still like this after Russia's invasion. Anyway... What Shakthar has now has been created back in those days, under the partnership of Akhmedov and Lucescu. It worked really well, they were buying cheap players from Brasil, Africa, and polishing them, putting in the market in CL, selling with high profit. What I am trying to say is what Shakhtar has now is a heritage of Lucescu. Fonseca is a successor but it doesn't change the fact that he is a very capable manager can do good at Everton. It is pretty sure he can give more than Fat's giving at least. If Everton is not going to convince more capable manager in the summer then he is a good one to capture. He is charismatic, young, has an attacking-minded tactical approach and understanding of modern football. Definitely worth to try.
  14. http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2018/03/23/calvert-lewin This is what I liked about Cenk, he was always up to learn something from his competitions in the squad. Now, it is his turn to teach something to younger ones but this is not about Cenk, this is about DCL. To be honest, I've noticed him right after I started to follow Blues' Cenk transfer so, haven't seen him much but what I've seen so far I can say he is a promising young striker, still can get better or worse, but this attitude (if he is just not trying to be sympathetic and honest with what he said) is the right one. Never curse on your fate or give up if you can't make it into the team at the time you think that you deserve it. Keep trying, try to be better, time will come. I am excited to see his development in the future.
  15. Still, you won't be able to delete your Facebook profile completely Mark as the site won't let you do it. You can only close the account temporarily and data you have provided to them will be stored always. The weird part is, except this one, if you have FB app on your mobile it stores even your phone calls and god knows what else...
  16. You may have heard recently, Facebook's value plunged $58bn over a data breach scandal. For those who haven't heard it yet, i will try to make it easier to follow as simple as i can because the companies, names, and other actors involved in it a little bit complicated... - There are 2 major sides and 2 minor sides involved in it, Facebook and a company named Cambridge Analytica (will be mentioned as CA) which worked for Trump's campaign. Steve Bannon, vice president of the company, used to be a senior advisor to Trump until he was fired in August 2017. Cambridge Analytica is a political consulting firm. - SCL Group, which does the work for CA, is a British PR firm. They are known for the personalized marketing messages, expertise in psychological warfare and influence operations. - And an individual named Alexander Kogan, a Russian-American researcher at Cambridge University. Now, it starts at Kogan. He creates a quiz app on Facebook. 270.000 people took the quiz but that app exposes a loophole and beside the people who took the quiz, it also collects data from the friends of the people who took the quiz, without any concent. It is even against Facebook's own policy and looks like Facebook turned a blind eye to this violation. Eventually, it is a huge data that harvested over 50 million Facebook users and according to the sources it has been majorly used for Trump's campaign and for the sides of Brexit. "OK, they have collected data from 50m. people, so what? How did it affect the elections or Brexit votes? How can anyone use it?" When you have access to such big valuable data, you can easily manipulate the people especially if your expertise on "Personalized Marketing Messages" (SCL Group) For example; To start with, Facebook collects your interactions on your account and turns it into data. Your likes, comments, dislikes, pages you follow, news sources you read every day, every single interaction is being recorded, being used as data and for advertisement algorithms. Of course, it is not hard to guess that FB's algorithms are smart enough to understand your political affiliation. What also Facebook capable to do is "Targeting". Based on your likes, Facebook pushes related ads to you or news or sponsored ads by the companies. So this data gives you an insight into "Who is going to vote for Trump", "Who is going to vote for Hillary" or specifically "Whose vote can change in any minute from any side to another" and you can personalize your advertisements according to that. I mean very sensitive, very very effective ads. as they have your sensitive information. I am putting here a good example I've seen online over what happened and how CA used this data for Trump's campaign. The same example applies to Brexit as well.
  17. Media, politicians, politics are all the same in anywhere on this planet. I've been in South Sudan, Guatemala, Mali, Germany, Panama, Greece, France, Turkey and many more... Same story, different actors. Nevertheless, give the devil his due, the USA is the best implementer and practitioner of this kind of corruptions.
  18. Yes Mark, he has just started to be a constant one as Turkey having a problem to produce strikers recently and Cenk is the most successful and able to perform striker. But as Sacit pointed out there are some new young talents such as Enes Unal who signed by Man. City then loaned out to Twente and 2 years ago sold to Villarreal with a "buy back" option on the agreement. He is too young now, so what we have is only Cenk, at least in the next 2 years he will be the first choice without any question.
  19. I don't think he will be as fast as desired tbh. I don't know, I am not a sports scientist or a doctor but getting faster doesn't look like something that can be improved at any age to me, you are either fast and born that way or not. That's how I think through what I see so far. He can learn advanced pace techniques (like taking longer steps) or dribble techniques which can help him to cover his lack of speed. Though, looking forward to hearing from someone who knows these kinds of stuff to be enlightened. If a professional says that it is possible, I'm starting to improve my pace as well
  20. He is known for his work-rate mate. He has never been a super talented footballer but he likes to work hard, do extra training and improve his skills. As it is mentioned here many times, he has learned a lot from Demba Ba and Mario Gomez but on the other hand he also gets along with them, people like him as he shows his intention learning something from them then people help him. For example, last year after the Besiktas' crowned again, all of our players were on holiday but Cenk, even when he is on holiday, took his trainer with him and worked together with all day. Fitness, technique etc... There are short videos on his Instagram from his pieces of training during the summer time. What makes him special and why all the fans become admirer so far where he served is lying under his character IMO. I don't know him personally but what we see let us think that he has a great personality, getting along really well with his team-mates which lets them help him on and off the pitch. I think none of them would do the same thing for a douche like Balotelli for example. I am not surprised that he is on extra training with Duncan and Shakespear praises his work ethic, Walcott hails him as a striker as well. I don't know how much Everton as a team or its supporters cares about but Turkish people are patriotic and emotional in such cases. Once they love a person, they can support anything that person does, blindly. So, he is a good asset for Everton to have for its globalization and may generate a significant income from Turkish market if marketing department plays smart. I know or let's say, I guess, a lot of Everton fans sick and tired of Turkish raid on Everton posts on any social media tool but it can be turned into a benefit for the club. It's like you have a river nearby with high flow rate, either you can build a hydroelectric plant and turn it into electric then sell or let it run freely. I will give you a small example of my environment nowadays, I left my job recently and not working at the moment. We used to post sports related articles on a blog we've created when we were in college with my friends, approx. 10 years ago and the biggest part of that blog was about Premier League. We used to meet in Irish pubs in Istanbul, sit together with English and Irish people who live in Istanbul and watch the games together, chat with them etc. which was letting us sharing our thoughts on the blog weekly. That blog has become popular somehow on media, it has drawn attention back to those days, they have started to use our articles, even some of my friends jumped in the media to become commentators. After an arguably small introduction of it, what I was trying to say is, I do not remember any posts about Everton. Around 10 articles each week for 2 years on that blog, no Everton posts. Now, as I am not working atm, we meet with some of those friends but this time everyone's attention is on Everton. Everybody wants to meet to watch Everton games. "United playing Liverpool? Screw it, let's meet on Saturday evening for Everton game." Well, sorry for the long post again and some off-topic additions on it but long story short, Cenk will be a good asset for the team in the future as long as he continues to serve with his football and in other ways I mentioned.
  21. Erm, hey there! First of all, his name is Oguzhan Ah, looks like these Turks will cause a problem to Everton with their hard to pronounce names And dear Romey, contrary to my fellow Turkish members in this forum who shared their opinions about him on Cenk's thread, I am not here to tell "Everton should sign him". When Besiktas fined by UEFA (FFP regulations) we've burnt the bridges. Club asked the star players to lower their wages, kept the ones who agreed and sold the ones who didn't want it to and then with income from those transfers, we've built an army of young Turkish players. (Locals or ones who grew up in Germany, Netherlands etc.) He used to be a highly-rated future prospect and core player of that squad (Alongside with Cenk and Tore who played for Bilic's West Ham and been humiliated by the fans tbh), most of them left the team already but he is still in the squad and lost his starter position to another German-born Turkish midfielder Tolgay and Chilean honey badger Medel lately. He used to play in Arsenal's youth team before Besiktas. A squad member of Arsenal youth team which won 08-09 & 09-10 academy league, plus 08-09 FA Youth Cup. RVP was one of his best friends but they had a fight during a Besiktas - Fenerbahce derby and not talking to each other anymore, however, he used the say RVP helped him a lot back in his Arsenal experience. He used to be a hot prospect as I mentioned above, even rated higher than Cenk and clubs were scouting him a lot but his development totally reversed or stopped this year, I don't know. As I mentioned, he lost his place in the team, doesn't look sharp while on the pitch. His work rate is a joke (training I mean, not on the pitch.) and with his current shape and performance, I think it is a very risky transfer for the Everton. On the other hand, the club says that they have renewed his contract but it'll be announced during the summer as the FFP restriction on Besiktas will be ending this summer. There are rumors that it is a lie by the board to avoid supporter protest, Besiktas couldn't convince him to sign a new contract and he is unhappy and unsettled. In that case, Everton can steal him for free and give it a try. As he is from Arsenal's youth team, he knows the league as well. Let's see my Cons & Pros about him: PROS: Well known for his key passes Tend to teamwork, gets along with his teammates A very good friend of Cenk and they can understand each other telepathically (He wears no. 14 at Besiktas, i think that's why Cenk decided that number as 23 is not available at Everton) Takes responsibility when needed (Doesn't mean that it will turn into something good for the team positive but at least he tries) Have some defensive skills, at least more than enough for a No. 10 Can intercept passes smartly while the opponent trying to get the ball forward Knows the league Can speak English fluently At the end of his contract, can be free in the summer Captain for the Besiktas and in the captain list of the national team. I think it means his influence is not bad Accurate passes Vision, can see empty spaces, encourages wingers or strikers to run and kills it with a tailored pass. CONS: Terrible finishing Terrible shooting outside the box Lack of pace (Even in the Turkish League) Set pieces are average Strength is not the word that can be used to define him No sign of improvement than what he is right now, in the future Not a consistent performer at all. He can lose it in any minute, in any game Not this year but the last 2 championships that Besiktas won, he was the star midfielder of the squad. He helped the team a lot. But, that Besiktas I mentioned here used to play Barça kind of passing style football in a very attacking shape. Besiktas' tactic has been modified this year due to different squad chemistry, he couldn't adapt, lost his place in the team and now struggling badly. I am not sure at all, to be honest. If I were Walsh or Allardyce, I would give it a try as long as I get him on a free transfer. At his prime, he may worth more than Cenk but with a performance like this year, doesn't even worth 10 million pounds. So, to avoid the risks, better to have him if he is free otherwise a great risk. Sad but true... P.S. I've just seen the scouting video of him here, one correction, he is terrible as DM IMHO. The kid doesn't have enough defensive skills for that specific position and lack of pace. Still, the video shows a bunch of good memories of him. His prime time, killer passes, good attacking movements etc.
  22. Exactly what Everton needs, a left full back with attacking capabilities. If Everton signs him on summer transfer window and if he adapts during the pre-season, i think he can be successful. I am sure of one thing only, he is better than Cuco in any ways.
