I cant see how you could possibly say that Martinez took over a mid table side and got them relegated, all be it with mitigating circumstances Moyes took over a side that was regularly flirting with relegation and turned them into regular European challengers and yet you think Martinez did a better job? You keep harping on about the fact Everton are paying the 10th highest wage bill, that is because Moyes built that side up with steady progress and eventually got us into a position were we could attract better players you seem to ignore the fact that Moyes got us into that situation with players like Kilbane, Bent, Carsley and a few lads he picked up from the Championship If the wage bill plays such a big factor shouldn't Everton have finished 4 places lower and Wigan 2 places higher?

And Moyes was ridiculously financially limited compared to every manager of the teams who finished above us and quite a few who finished below us

Lol Got to admit the all new ultra positive Haf is a refreshing change from the pessimistic doom and gloom Haf but its funny that all the arguments that you are so quick to point out in defence of Martinez are the same ones that you refused to accept when people defended Moyes Small squad, injuries to key players, lack of depth, cant compete financially, it all sounds a bit familiar to me!

I agree We simply arent in a position to attract any of the top managers and Im quite pleased with the 3 that are now said to be on the final short list, I would probably opt for Martinez out of the 3 but there isn't really much in it for me

It could but it would be totally irrelevant Moyes didn't pay big fees or big wages for the likes of Lescott , Jagielka and Coleman . Moyes made us hard o beat first and foremost, kept us up then strengthened the side gradually You keep going on about Evertons £63M wages bill, but Moyes built that side and turned them into players who warranted that kind of money. Initially he built the side around the likes of Carlsey, Kilbane and Bent and again I doubt that calibre of player would have been out of Wigans reach Martinez went gung ho and got relegated. Im not against Martinez getting the job because all of his good points that you keep pointing out I totally agree with and so I think he is worth the risk, however there is that risk and I think its only natural that people should be a little concerned. At the end of the day he is still a good young manager and overall I would be fairly excited to see what he could do if given the chance

The fact of the matter is Martinez had 4 years to address the problem at Wigan and never managed it so I think people are right to be concerned
