Regarding the on the pitch scenario though, I think the bigger picture applies.

 

A war may be won on the battlefield too, but the country that can afford the best weapons will determine victory long before the first bullet is fired.

 

At the moment, we have the firepower to win the odd battle, but if the league is a war, we have no chance of winning it on the field alone. I know it sounds cheesy, but I think it's true.

You need to consider tactics, unity, heart and desire though - money can't buy these (well maybe tactics)...

Fellaini Rodwell

Barton Osman/Barkley Arteta

Saha or new striker

Essentially the same team - I think Neville will be eased out this season for Rodwell.

I wouldn't mind us setting up like this if we signed him...

Pretty solid team with some quality back-up e.g. Cahill, Heit, Bily, Yak, etc...

In this case I don't think lack of natural width would effect us too much as we know baines/coleman can bomb past the winger and put a cross in and we'd hope barton/arteta would help back when this happens.

If we could then shift Yobo/Yak then we could probably focus on getting that striker we're also crying out for (when saha's unfit!)

Hopefully Donovan will re-join on loan in Jan too - I'd obviously ask for more but if we could get Barton and a striker this window (only losing yak/yobo) and add to that Donovan in Jan - again not selling anyone (unless Bily bid came in - would need replacing) - then I'd be quite confident with our squad this season with a little luck with injuries.

The club don't have the cash to compete. Football is no longer won on the pitch. The first time lads kicking a ball around became superstars was the start of the end for the game of football.

Football will always be won and lost on the pitch, at the end of the day it's 11 people vs 11 people.

Twitter rumour from an agent (that's been retweeted by Fourth_Official) is that Moyes and Barton will meet tomorrow morning.

From what I saw we lacked creativity and fluidity - Jags looked solid in 2nd half.

Lets not forget this was a pre-season friendly away to a very good team who we probably didn't do as much research on as if it were a 'competitive' game.

It isnt pretty granted. I did a lot of things when I was younger, thinking I was a big shot. Times change, people change when given the chance and a few years to grow. If he is a reformed character and I believe he is then he would be an asset to any side.

 

If Moyes feels the same then I wouldn't throw away my ticket because he wears the shirt, provided he respects it and understands what is expected of him
