Experience is very important for players, especially so for central midfielders. That's why. Also, players at that age are usually not at peak fitness yet. So a 20-year old player can be expected to improve. He's not the finished product yet.

Rodwell was talented but his attitude has stank ever since. He could have been a regular England player, instead he was happy to pick a fat wage packet from Sunderland and not play. Davies by all accounts is absolutely opposite. Extremely eager to learn, trains hard, loves to play. And he seems to have that knack of making others around him better.

I've said previously experience will help any player that's a given but you can only get so far on hard work and experience you need the natural ability to hone and I just don't see it in him

He's not shite don't get me wrong he could be a squad player for years to come but I can't ever see him being able to cut it at the level we should be aiming for as a first team player

Can't blame Rodwell for wanting his money when he asked to leave also had problems with injuries, Sunderland are and where a shambles who gladly threw the money at him and others to begin with, a club that got what they deserved imo

Anyway it's going off topic but I hope he proves me wrong down the line as I'll gladly eat humble pie when any player wearing the shirt does so

How many 20-year old CMs are there in the Premier League that are much better than Davies? How many have there been in the last five years?

Not sure why people throw age around with footballers he's 20 not 16 also there have been loads of players over the years.... but it all comes down to your personal opinion of how good you think he is, very subjective

Personally ability wise I don't see much difference in him to the likes of Gosling and Rodwell

Just given you a reality check that were no better with Gana, based on your first post 💋

Ey don't draw me into this one my head spins when I read that thread as it is

I'll be honest though considering I just said the above... I don't actually see the absolute necessity of playing a DM, I'd rather have a player in the Dacoure mould that can do that whilst being a box to box type

Scrapping past Huddersfield with Davies playing and 10 men for half the game, as opposed to been blown out the water against Millwall with Gana playing.

    And your point is?

It's pretty clear mate, you can't draw comparisons to two proven players after one half decent game it's just silly

I nearly fell over though when I saw two notifications from a post I mention Gana and it was you and Pete 😄

    Fair enough.

I think you just need filter glasses that instead of showing Davies, show another player instead.

Pity Haff didn't have a pair when watching Lukaku, or PeteO with Gana.

Slightly different to say the least those comparisons as Lukaku evidently scored goals regardless of his faults and Gana goes about his business as well as most top DM's in the game does whereas Davies has had one half decent game.....

Let him put 7/10 performances in far more consistently before we start raving about how he's proved people wrong off the back of scrapping past Huddersfield

Found the Sopranos boring as fuck and turned it off after a season and half. Just didn't do anything for me.

It's no Boardwalk Empire imo but I'm liking it so far, I've had a few people say it's drops off after the first two seasons so I'll see how it goes

I need a filler until Thrones and Better Call Saul etc kick back off

  7. Green Book - Brilliant film and a great switch in ethnicity class for the era it really highlights how much ignorance there was (still is)

Great character development well worth a watch

Just started The Sopranos as well five episodes in and really getting into it, love the mob stuff so I'm not sure why I've never watched it years ago

  8.                           Pickford

    Coleman     Keane      Zouma     Digne

                                Gueye

                   Gomes            Bernard

    Lookman                                 Richarlison

                                  DCL

I was tempted to go with Kenny but Coleman is quicker and more experienced and Redmond might have a field day with Kenny

Give Sigurdsson a break although his stats haven't been bad he hasn't  looked as effective of late and Gomes Bernard both put the yards in and I'd like to see what Bernard can do drifting forward centrally

DCL deserves a start he's had a great week so his confidence should be sky high

But having the money to spend on tax and fuel is pointless if you don't have several grand up front to buy the car in the first place.

Your agreeing with my point to a larger degree... so yeah I agree

I said the above because you said Moshiri has the money but won't spend for one reason or another hence my post

It's been said multiple times wages are an issue so I'm not sure why it's even up for debate when we are spunking millions per month on surplus players wages

  10. It doesn't matter what term the cost comes under its still a cost to the club, fee's and wages go hand in hand and most certainly will be part of the reason why we won't be splashing money around

If my missus said can we get a third car and I have the capital to buy it but she doesn't for the running costs it's illogical to go out and buy it and it's definitely something anyone with any common sense would take into account before doing so

I’m sure that’s not the rule on the continent is it?  I remember a lot of players coming here from Europe and being shocked at the tax they have to pay.

And when wages are listed, they are always listed gross not net. So if a player is on 135k here, that’s before tax, if a player is on 75k in Europe, that’s before tax.

Pretty sure that's the case mate I've never ever seen players wages being shown post tax

He earns £3.6m per annum which roughly equates to £75k per week pre tax, no clue where Haiku is getting those figures from

Matt the info is readily available as clubs send their financial reports to Company House who then publish them

  12. 28 minutes ago, Haiku said:

That is after tax. The club pays 160k euro a week for his services. As a comparison, our best paid players are Yerry and Bernard both on 135k euro (before tax).

I could be wrong but where's it stated it's after tax? It's on multiple sources it's £70/75k pw, I've never seen a players wages mentioned post tax?

He would be on high wages, and a solution only until the summer, when we have more options.

Its a no from me, we have nothing to play for this season and should use the window to get rid of dead wood and save transfer funds and wages to get better players in the summer.

Give DCL the rest of the season to prove himself.

Why do people assume wages when it's readily available online to find these things out, £70k ish a week which is peanuts for a player of his calibre and experience in today's game

I think too many managers who have seen him on a daily basis and put him in the side ahead of more experienced pros like Besic and Schneiderlin must have seen something to keep putting him in there.

There must be a raw talent.

I get your point but Besic is pretty much the level at which I'm referring to with Davies just with more a little bit more about him and Morgan has been absolutely shite for some time

For me he's been used due to us not having many other options, I'd love the lad to flip a switch and prove me wrong I just don't ever see it happening

You can still be ‘limited’ footballer and be an effective footballer, especially as a defensive midfielder. In fact I’d love to have some limited players that know their game and how to impose it instead of these modern players who are technically great and can play loads of roles but no idea how to impact on a game.  I think there is a very useful footballer in Tom Davies that can still be unlocked with the right coaching and development.

If it takes 2 more years to get that and he can play 300 games for club and do ‘an ossie’ then I’d totally take that, it would be massive for the club in fact. Look at what your O’Sheas and your Wes Browns and that did for united in their great teams.

Nobody said they can't so I don't know why you've said so, I fully understand many a side have had such players he's a Dan Gosling MK2 who does a job for Bournemouth.... Also the players you've mentioned played alongside world class players there's a difference a massive one

You've used Davies and impact in the same breath I genuinely can't think of many games he's had that effect, he's also not a defensive midfielder

I don't mind having him in the squad as we currently are but he shouldn't starting games and if we progress the squad he'll likely be fazed out in my opinion

For a player to be "unlocked" you need natural raw talent he doesn't have it, what does he do or have in his locker that indicates such? Genuine question as I see next to nothing and we all see the game/players differently
