  1. I think he did mention the owner if not in that interview then in the BBC one. Yes Iwobi going into the middle was an obvious change but an important one to make and he was able to get more involved. I'd like to hope we don't have to see Iwobi playing wing back next season! A lot of jibe's on Twitter of Lampard's "great job taking Everton from 16th to 16th since coming in". what they miss is that we were a sinking ship, players low on confidence, a lack of fight and spirit from the players and the same from the fans who were watching Rafa's team resigned to a poor display and a likely loss, filing out quietly after another defeat. Frank both through his attitude and what he got out of the players helped to get that fire back in the fans and really lift the spirit of the club as a whole. I hope that he gets backed to help us progress and whilst we may not have a lot to spend, even if we make a big sale or two he needs to be backed by the club in every way they can and by the fans who all too often help to force a manager out. You can see the passion he has for his job and that whilst he makes mistakes he learns from them quickly and with the support of the staff he has around him I think he can keep improving and improve Everton.
  2. Tough one, based on that second half everyone worked so hard, ran themselves into the ground and actually played some good football. My main mentions would be Iwobi, was everywhere, always showing for the ball, looking to drive forward, play it and keep going and never stopped. Richarlison, just gives everything every game but some great work to create a few chances that didn't come off. Loved his solo celebration after DCL's goal! In the defence I thought Keane and Holgate both had superb games, Keane with a cracking finish and both defended brilliantly against good attackers. 10 clearences between them. DCL was immense, I know someone said he "huffed and puffed" but we played a lot of direct aerial stuff and he won 15 headers in that game, that's massive! We really need to make sure we get someone backing up those to get someone on it after he wins it but we have seen his value in the last 2 games with someone to aim at up front. The early chance against Brentford was the perfect example of how effective he can be when winning the ball when he won the ball which Gordon got on to and combined with Richarlison to come close. Brilliant header for the goal too. Shouts to Gray for being the only player in the team capable of a decent cross! My man of the match goes to Dele though, he's been knocked a lot and clearly hasn't been fit enough or up for the fight enough to make Frank think he should be getting game time but he put in a real shift when he came on, was calm on the ball, playing it round well, winning fouls and really making things happen when he had the ball.
  3. I think we need to get over this thinking of "this team might take it easy to help that team" and "this team are on the beach" etc. Whilst teams like Everton at the bottom and Liverpool/City will begiving that bit more to win a game than those sat in the middle managers are not sending their players out with an attitude of "let's not bother with this one". Players want to score goals, keep clean sheets and win matches. It's what they get paid for and it's what the manager gets paid to get them doing! In the case of Crystal Palace league table wise they have quite a bit to play for, they are currently 13th but a win against us would take them right up to 9th (or 10th depending on Leicester's result) which is much more of an achievement for them league wise not to mention the money. They could even still finish 8th with a final day win! Arsenal will i'm sure do all they can to go out with a win at home in front of their home crowd and ensure that Spurs have to get a result in their game. If he said that in publicly in his Golf Club then he's a right tit! Whether he was thinking it or not, if he said it he's majorly risking his job! Also, i'm not sure that you could say that not giving a team a penalty shout whilst 1-0 up is particularly losing them the game. He's not to know that 10 second later our last defender will be giving him a no choice red card to give!
  4. Just going on his body language prior to letting his man run freely for the header. Not dissing his whole performance bit he was at fault for standing swinging his arms around with his head down for their winner.
  5. Every EPL game is on somewhere It's not on Sky or BT
  6. I think we went to defensive in the 2nd half to look after our points which actually didn't really help us as it invited them to attack our box too often. I got the not wanting to press too much and burn players out but we did need to put them under some pressure rather than letting them control play. Allan on for Gomes may have helped this as he's someone that will get about and pressure players around the midfield area.
  7. Weirdly there don't appear to be any TV games on Thursday - in the UK anyway!
  8. torn on that one, I was definitely shouting for the sending off at the time! But I'd say that at 7 times out of 10 a card wouldn't be given for that challenge. As both the players had their arm around him anyway it could have gone against either (or both) players. It is one of those that the ref is often happy to cop out on when it comes to a second yellow but I don't think a ref giving a penalty to us but not sending the player off can go down as the ref hating Everton!
  9. A lot of hatred being aimed at the ref, as so often it seems but apart from that 1 decision I can't think of anything else that went against us that shouldn't have or anything that we didn't get. The Richarlison foul was definitely a foul and should have been given BUT shirt pulling so often gets ignored, more often on corners than in play like this and this was very blatant. HOWEVER this should not be an excuse for Branthwaite getting on the wrong side of his defender as last man and taking down the attacker for a clear red card. When the 2 incidents are put together it adds a lot more to the ref not giving the penalty but ultimately they were seperate incidents, we weren't short a defender because Richarlison had his shirt pulled or it didn't cause Branthwaite to be out of position. Sadly it was a naïve mistake from a young defender who will learn from it
  10. Allan seems to have lost favour with Lampard but I'd like to see him back. I'd have brought him on yesterday for Gomez to help sure things up in the middle as he would have done a better job winning things back and getting around their midfield. The main danger we saw from Palace in the cup was their tricky attacking players particularly Eze and Zaha along with Gallagher. We need to ensure we have the right cover on them. Pickford Coleman Keane Holgate Mykolenko Allan Iwobi Doucoure Gray DCL Richarlison Gordon was looking a bit tired as the game went on yesterday, he did provide some good stuff early on but I think a break with him there to come on off the bench when required would be best. Gray also provides better set pieces than Gordon (doesn't take much). Fingers crossed Keane is well. Allan needs to get over that side to support Coleman against Eze.
  11. Probably Iwobi. Richarlison worked his socks off as usual, did some great stuff but a bit of poor defending on the corner also cost us a goal. Gordon for their 3rd by the way, was ambling around like a sulking child, a bit of tiredness along with the emotion of the goal we conceded a minute earlier but really costly lazyness that let them have a free header.
  12. Finally lucked out with a ticket! Not even an obstructed view. I will take my unbeaten goodison record and hopefully add to it
  13. I've had a bit of a change of heart Pickford Coleman Holgate Keane Mykolenko Delph Doucoure Iwobi Gordon DCL Richarlison As with Romey, can't be arsed to discuss thoughts on DCL apart from that he seemed fairly lively when he came on and I think that while Richarilson has been playing great I don't think he provides us that focus in the box as he gets too involved elsewhere. I want to see DCL doing what Carlo got him doing which was getting into good spaces in the box as well as some good hold up play around the middle.
  14. Never seen anything like it with ticket sales. I'd planned to go but hand't bought tickets yet (general sale eligible only). Tickets all sold out but always some on resale right.... Resale tickets appear every now and then and are gone again by the time you select the ticket! Great to see such great support, just annoying i'm unlikely to get a ticket! -- Hopefully much like other recent home games the crowd are in full force for this one which could if Leeds don't win seal our safety. On the other hand if Leeds win then we could potentially (if Burnley also win) start the game in the relegation zone. Brentford have had a great season after being heavily tipped for relegation they've looked pretty safe all season, playing some decent football at times. They are also in decent form with 3 wins and a draw in their last 5 and have a decent away form, 11th in the table and have won 3 of their last 5 aways. It'll be interesting to see how we play, wins against Man Utd, Chelsea, Leicester and a good battle at Anfield saw us sitting back with little of the ball and making good counter attacks, we struggled to assert ourselves against Watford where we got more of the ball and Brentford could be similar where we dominate the ball more but struggle to create clear cut chances. Brentford are only slightly above us in the possession stats for the season so we really need to impose ourselves, press hard like we have in recent weeks but commit a bit more going forward. Pickford Coleman Holgate Keane Mykolenko Delph Doucoure Iwobi Gordon Richarlison Gray I'd like to see us back to 4 at the back with Iwobi given a bit more license to attack. Doucoure favoured as well as he can carry the ball well and join the attack.
  15. LOL! I just try to look at things objectively rather than purely with my heart! I don't disagree that bad decisions are made, that they'd have given it had it been at the other end of the pitch or that Liverpool and certain other teams get much more decisions than other teams but that doesn't mean that I can't look at our own decisions and objectively say that i'm not sure I'd have given it. If I was the ref I'd have gone straight for VAR because it was clearly a close call that needed further inspection. That's the whole point of having VAR.
  16. The big difference for me is the atmosphere both both from the crowd and what we are seeing from the players under Frank. I believe there have been some improvements in the game play, we are starting to look better defensively and turning fast counter attacks which was reminiscent of the start of Rafa's season but disappeared after those early weeks. Frank is showing a passion for the club that comes across very well to fans and players and a great fighting spirit to stick up for them (ie not being scared to highlight unjust decisions!) He may not have been the perfect choice and with his limited experience especially at the bottom end of the table he was a risk but I would 100% want to see him backed in the new season (wherever we are) to work improving the team and performances with the limited budget that we get. He's brought in a good team of staff, has a real desire to win and see us doing better and I think is smart enough to learn from the mistakes that he makes. He won't let players get away with lazy performances and lack of effort but equally wouldn't shut someone out over a difference of opinion (...Rafa). This is where the fans have to take some responsibility as continually driving managers out of the club does not help matters and whilst things can be difficult at times I think we need to get behind the manager more some times rather than calling for their head after a few rough games and doing our easy job of arm chair/stands/keyboard management.
  17. He does go down quite a lot but he does also win quite a lot of fouls. If your saying neither are getting given anything, Gordon has won 1 penalty and is the 11th most fouled player in the league. Richarlison is the 3rd most fouled player in the league. I don't however have any stats on how the number of times they are given a foul compares to the number of times they hit the deck! (In Richarlison's case I imagine he probably goes down about 5 times per game whilst getting given 2.4 fouls per game. -- I was undecided on a foul and I'd say it could have been a penalty but I'd be inclined to say not. This is the a frame or 2 before Gordon has his "foot stood on". Gordon has moved his foot across and infront of Matip, they are both already through a step here and Gordon's foot comes down underneath Matip's. Clearly this only happens because Gordon has put his leg across as 2 right legs wouldn't naturally come together no matter how close you are running together. That's not me saying that he's necessarily deliberately played for the foul but it is a coming together that you can't fault the defender for. Some would say from the image that he's "holding" Gordon and that he shoved him but I don't really see that, yeah he has his arm on him but no more than the average situation where 2 players are running. He doesn't shove him, Gordon is going down as soon as he gets Matip's foot on his. Matip may have given a bit of a push on the way as his arm came off Gordon but that was about it. Would it have been given a foul in the middle of the pitch? PROBABLY Should it have been referred to VAR for a check? DEFINITELY The ref as you can see was in a good position but he can't see the angle that we are seeing so this is exactly the kind of thing that should go to VAR. The ref can see close contact and a player going down in the box, doesn't think it's a pen but with a minute or two's check can be completely sure by seeing all angles. I don't believe he would have given it after a VAR check but at least it would have been rightly considered.
  18. I don't see a result against Chelsea as that big a surprise to be honest, we probably only get a draw but I fancy something from that game, they aren't at their best, we've been ok at home and we've got a great recent history home to Chelsea (3 wins in a row and unbeaten in the last 4) It's tough to see us winning all 3 of the mentioned games, both Brentford and Palace can be tough teams to beat though with nothing to play for the hope is that these 2 sides are switching off and not really feeling up for the Goodison fight whilst Watford will hopefully continue their awful form and give us a chance for the rarest of away wins. I'm holding out for 11 pts from the next 5 games but perhaps i'm being over optimistic!
  19. Outstanding efforts from him yesterday, BUT while some will argue that we should have had a pen or two I think he really needs to cut down on the theatrics. Yes sometimes he earns clever fouls forcing a challenge with a nice touch but he also looks to go down too easily and often. Having both him and Richarlison hitting the deck at every opportunity no doubt puts the powers that be off of checking those VAR decisions even more than they normally do. I know other players do it but Gordon is starting to look a bit ridiculous with some of his dramatics . Richarlison on the other hand appears to believe he's taken a blow from Tyson Fury at least once in every match!
  20. As with everyone else, Gordon and Mykolenko. Couldn't really fault anyone's effort throughout but Gordon was at the heart of everything we created going forward, the kind of running that forces defenders into a tough decision. If only he could shoot with his left! Mykolenko is looking better and better, really did a solid job especially in the first half of keeping Salah out
  21. I don’t think wholesale changes every game will do us any good, we need some stability and for large parts of the last 2 games most of our players have put in decent performances.
  22. I was thinking the same team but DCL instead of Gray. wouldn’t have a problem with gray adding extra pace to the counter attacks though like when we played them at Old Trafford and opened them up
  23. Agree actually in Mykolenko, worked really hard, got some crosses in, threw everything at it defending against Lennon. Good to see him having a strong game
  24. Richarlison gave it everything and you could see after that first goal he had a real boost in confidence too. Iwobi I thought had a good game in the middle again as well, always showed for it, looked to push forward and worked hard at the back too.
  25. We weren't any better before him either. He's not been perfect and clearly has a lot to learn but wherever we are next season he needs backing and with a bit more work and changes in personnel he can come good. Sadly this season he does not have that
