  1. All reports suggested we were overpaying him (based on other options).....so I don't think it was greed Esk. Think you just got this one wrong.

For the life of me I don't get why people believe any of these "in the knows". They've all been talking about Witsel, Carvalho and Mata. None had any inkling about Gueye, Williams, Bolasie...

  2.

I was fine with Gueye. Williams I'm against as I do think 12m is too much as he's no more than average and leaving his prime. I put a lot more trust in Voetbal International than I do in The Sun and they're saying Bony will be closer to £25m. Up to £30m for Yannick Bolasie is so crazy it's actually unbelievable. He had 20 key passes last season, which puts him at the same level as James McArthur and Alan Hutton, but below Craig Gardner, Lucas Leiva, Daley Blind, Lee Cattermole, Glenn Whelan. Aaron Lennon had 23 key passes in 3/4th of the minutes Bolasie played, Gerard Deulofeu had 26 in 681 minutes less than Bolasie... He's actually well-below average in terms of efficiency.

Add about 18 million for Lamine Koné as well probably.

  3. Are we? Gueye was £7mill. Williams supposedly £12mill. Bony is reported to be £15mill...although that's pure speculation at this point. The only real scary fee is for Bolasie. But again, that's here say.

Obviously fees in general have ballooned. As have wages. But that will be the same for all clubs, it's not unique to Everton.

We'll see. I just think some of the 'emotions' are out of proportion with the situation and have been created by ourselves. If you know what I mean.

  4. Those who are disappointed have created their own expectations.

We all got carried away with fantasy football. We all let our imaginations run riot. Now reality is biting....it's someone else's fault!

Nobody from the club ever gave an actual figure available for transfers. There's not one quote available that says 'we'll have £100mill'. It was in the papers, and we took it.

I think it's a shame that some fans feel the way they do just now. At a time when our foundation is more solid than it has been for a very long time.

I kind of see what we are doing. We don't want to spend big money on so called big names and pay daft wages to them. So we get players that have proven themselves in the PL, who know that Everton is a step up in their career. The only aim this season is to push hard for the top 6. Realistically.

I admit some doubts have crept into my mind. But then a slap of reality sorts me out.

I still say we have made one of the biggest signings in Walsh.

If we can't trust/feel good/be optimistic about having a new investor, a proven man as DoF, a solid manager, proven talks of a new stadium...well then...I don't know!!!

The problem is we are going to spend big money and more than likely pay daft wages but we're going to do it to get bang average players.

  5. 30m? Isn't that the fucking Stones profit gone? (Minus Barnsley's cut)

What happened to 30m + Bony? That way we wouldn't have had to pay Barnsley a mega cut, kept a hefty profit and bagged a striker.

They're saying it'll be about 30m euro, which is £25.6m, to be clear.
  6.

or if you follow more recent transfer dealings that City have had for young players - he may follow the course of Jack Rodwell the elegant footballer with very little going on between the ears and be sat in the squad at Sunderland after making the big jump too soon.

Meanwhile Mason Holgate, Kone and Funes Mori had formed a tremendous central defensive rotation having been mentored by player coach Ashley Williams....

I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was convinced that Rodwell wasn't even good enough for Everton by the time he was sold to City, so that's a bit of a different situation to Stones. But sure, I guess everything is possible. I know what I believe to be the more likely outcome though.

  7. Really?

Comparing him to Mane at a similar price...he's older, less technical and creative, still a cracking signing though.

Solid since Palace came back up to the first division.

    For 20m he's worth it.

Mané is younger and has scored in double figures in the Premier League for two seasons running. Bolasie is no more efficient than Mirallas.

  8. Well happy about this. Selling Stones and getting Williams plus 35 mil is fantastic

Wait until the 2018-19 season when Williams is backing up whoever we have starting at centre back then and we've spent the 35m on Idrissa Gueye and Yannick Bolasie while Stones is starting for Manchester City and England and prices have skyrocketed further.

  9.

In any case, my point still stands and it's more a club thing than a Koeman thing.

Mind you, I'm happy to accept that this is Koeman's philosophy that he wasn't able to implement at Saints because they have an established scouting strategy/dept.

The only reason we got Austin is because yes he's experienced PL player but more because he's only 26.. He's not in the bracket as Williams, Dann or Fonte.

Bolasie agreed would be fantastic for you if you can pull him off. Add some pace upfront to complement the height/ball delivery.

Bolasie would be a disaster if we're genuinely going to pay the 30m that Palace are reportedly asking for.

  10.

He could have afforded the 3 players you've signed (one under Martinez) at Southampton, too.

5m for Gueye and very little for Stek.

Don't read this as Koeman's strategy. This is all about club and recruiting strategy.

Southampton scout well and prefer young players that they can develop, who fit the ethos/values of the club. Their first team signings are all 10-15m bracket.

It was 7m for Gueye and I'm not only talking about the players we've signed, but also about the players we're linked with: Bolasie, Williams, Fonte, Dann...

  11.

clever defenders don't always need the pace - he is very clever. Distin needed his because he was a bit prone to errors.

You can always compliment a slower defender with a quicker one. Hansen for example was not quick at all - he had lawrenson for that.

Everyone needs some pace (Leon Osman was a clever player, he was a liability on the pitch the last couple of seasons regardless), defenders aren't an exception to that. And Distin indeed needed his pace to be a positive and he was exceptional in that he kept his pace far longer than most other players do, but he's also exceptional in that he simply played far longer than most players do. Not everyone plays at a Premier League level until they're 38.

  12.

distin relied on pace which he had buckets of. Williams has far more to his game, very vocal, strong in the air and the tackle, reads the game very well and makes very little mistakes.

Not disputing any of that, but I don't see how that guarantees he'll play well into his thirties? What if whatever pace he does have goes?
