  1.

I'd have thought the instruction would be touch tight at set pieces or in the defensive third. If you are touch tight in central midfield it would negate transition and deny space when you retain the ball - as some have alluded to already.

I have coached at semi professional level in N.Ireland and at both youth and college level in the USA.

    Thanks for the input.

I've been of the opinion that when you lose the ball, a good way to get it back is to press as a unit, forcing the ball to go back towards their keeper or forcing a misplaced pass. Liverpool used to be excellent at it when they had their tails up. I think Barcelona still do it like that too. So is it a new defensive strategy to stand off in the middle?

  2. Forgot all about that. So Manchester United had the win then. Got to be pleased as it constitutes a Liverpool defeat and like us, all they can win now this season is the FA Cup next year. I don't know of any other League cup games this night. Not interested would be best said.

Wait a damn minute, just realized this game was at Anfield ? So Moyes finally managed a victory there ? Goddamn it, one for the history books.

  3. Hello Toffees,

I'm a 16 year old Chelsea supporter from Estonia.

Everton have always been a club I've looked fondly upon for no apparent reason, it's just one of those clubs that you like, ya' know what I mean? No? Just me then perhaps.

Anyways with our belgian tank Lukaku heading on loan to Goodison I thought it was sensible to join your community and have a chat, perhaps even a friendly argument.

In hope of not getting too much stick looking forward to chatting with all you toffees !

    Hello mate.

Be aware once Everton has touched you there's no going back. It's like being born. There is but one way out.

  4. Having read this article, I'm totally lost as to why Brentford have been instructed to pay potentially over 600K for a player who joined them in the summer having chosen not to renew his contract with Walsall. What's the issue here? Can someone not choose to leave when their contract has ended?

If you are under 24, you must wait a year after the end of your contract before joining another club on a Bosman.

I'm no expert, so rather than try to explain a subject out of my knowledge area, you can read here from 67 onwards:

Unfortunately that is not the habit on this forum, and since this is a discussion forum I suggest you accept it up when other people discuss. That implies I am free to question your choice to vote for what I believe was potentially the one element that distorted Everton's flow with his pointless showmanship.

And with that attitude, I'm pretty sure I'll be here longer than you will be. But don't be sad, you have your other silly looking Everton forum to always fall back on.

And you wonder why you're disliked.

  6. We look ok with the ball, but without it we look as though we've gone backwards a hundred years in my opinion.

Last night we seemed to stand off Fulham and allow them time to play. There was no close marking, and no pressure put on Fulham to win the ball back. It looked like we were standing at least 6ft away from the opposition.

Is this modern coaching, or is it poor defending?

We're fine in many areas, but as soon as we lose the ball, we look like a boxer who has just been caught on the chin, and all composure is gone.

  7. Moyes best signings historically are in the lower range. Howard, jags, lescott, baines, Cahill, pienaar, arteta, Coleman, distin. When he goes the higher end of our budget he tends to lose his value.., billy, yak, aj, Beattie. The only one that really worked out was felli and to be honest he was £5m over priced at the time.

Moyes best market historically have been high paid low transfer value players like Howard, arteta, pienaar, distin, or your talented lower level players like baines, Cahill, Coleman. They ain't shite by any means just low risk high reward.

He is now expected to operate in the financially high risk market..., his first signing - a low risk player - Fellaini. He passed on Ozil - for me the best creative midfielder around. He dithered on thiago - the next xavi IMO. Fellaini is good and will do a job....is he going to be £27m for united? Nope. For arsenal or Chelsea yes.

I'll tell David to drop by sometime before January and you can give him a few tips. :P

  8. A fine record in the lower end of the market Av. When he's had money his record ain't so great.

In all seriousness the last transfer window gives an indication as to what he is like with money. He tits about thinking the other club will be thankful for such mega money (less than player is worth) and they will wrap up the player and deliver him. We seen this with moutinho.... Then he went and payed over the odds for Fellaini. The same happened again a few weeks ago.

He may come good in that regards but for me he's had to be too small time for too long.

You talk about the lower end of the market like it's a charity shop. It's nothing to do with lower end, and everything to do with finding top players before they come to fruition.

There is no reason to stop doing that at United either. He just has the luxury of funding at United.

How has his record 'with' money been poor? He's only been at United for a handful of games and he bought Fellaini, who many valued as one of the games top midfielders. We don't know the circumstances of the sale, so can only speculate as to why it was a late purchase, and we also don't know his financial situation there. It could be that they are not as willing to spend money as we think.

Evertons players are hardly small time Haf. Nearly everybody is an International so we're hardly Accrington Stanley.

  9. I feel sorry for Kagawa. Went from being one of the best players in the Bundesliga to sitting on the bench behind the likes of Welbeck, Cleverly and Valencia. Even Hernandez isnt getting a sniff without RVP in the team.

Man Utd's squad isnt the strongest but it doesnt help if you dont pick the best 11 players at your disposal. Iv heard plenty of people on Twitter say he was left with a crap squad, but he had all summer and a blank cheque to get that sorted and he failed.

City's squad has cost them about 600 million over the last 5 years, so they should have a strong one. For me, United is full of players that need to be sold off, and I think Moyes will be assessing things before making big changes. He's got a fine record in the market, so let's not forget that.

  10. From what I can make out, the survey resulted in fans ranking the features of crest in order of importance:

    1. Tower

    2. "Nil Satis Nisi Optimum" text

    3. "Everton" text

    4. Shield

    5. "1878" text

    6. Laurel Wreaths

I found it interesting that a lot of people did not want the club's name on the badge, I was one of them.

"Whilst significant numbers of supporters taking part in focus groups felt Everton's Crest should ideally be recognisable without the inclusion of the name, more participants agreed that the inclusion of the name was important to "broadcast" Everton effectively: to other football supporters, in Europe and internationally, with sponsors and through merchandise and to potential new supporters. "

From a design point of view, I think the crest would look better without the "Everton" text. I've seen several people say that they don't like the style of 'Everton' lettering (the font is known as "Matrix"), personally I do like it, but I think that a better font for the Nil Satis Nisi Optimum text could have been found.

The font on the old badge was Matrix ii Bold from what I can tell. I'm not sure what font was on the newer badge, but Narkisism will get you close.

On the new offerings, it's the same, but the 3rd one looks as though it has been deliberately warped using the bulge effect. Small detail, but enough for the eye to notice subconsciously and dislike lol.
